Dark.

 

Everywhere was pitch black. And in the midst of the darkness, two figures could hardly be made out. It was as if they were blending in with the darkness.

 

The two figures were heading toward a small cabin surrounded by trees.

 

"Sis, I'm in position."  It was Mino's voice. She was talking into a small magic stone attached to her collar via a small necklace.

 

She was dressed in dark-color clothing, perfect to blend in with the darkness.

 

"Got it. I'm ready when you are," Mina, who wore the same uniform as Mino, replied.

 

"I'm ready."  Mino nodded.

 

"On my count. One... two... three... go!"  At the same time as Mina gave the signal, she smashed the window and threw a flash spell to blind anyone inside.

 

And a second later, Mino kicked the door down and rushed into the cabin.

 

Immediately, two objects glinted as they headed toward her head and chest.

 

"*Huff* Hiyaah!"  Mino bent her knee to dodge the incoming attacks and then used the recoil from her legs to push her body up and perform a double uppercut with both hands.

 

*Crash* *Crash*

 

"It's clear, sis!"  Mino called out.

 

"Got it! I'm coming in."  Mina entered and tapped on Mino's shoulder.

 

Then, the two proceeded to clear out the rooms one by one.

 

"Shh, Mino."  The older twin signaled her sister to be quiet.

 

Mino made eye contact with Mina and nodded to confirm. Then Mina closed her eyes and started to spread her mana toward the room.

 

It only took her about 10 seconds. Then she opened her eyes and whispered.

 

"There are three of them and one hostage at the left corner. Two are going to attack us as soon as we enter the room, and the last one has the hostage."  (Mina)

 

"Okay. Are you ready?"  (Mino)

 

"Yeah. Let's go."  (Mina)

 

Mina prepared a flash spell. When Mino saw that she was readied, she kicked down the door, and then Mina shot the spell right after.

 

Just as Mina said, two enemies were waiting on each side of the door. Mino had already anticipated that and hit their necks with her elbow.

 

*Crack* *Crash*

 

"Ice lance!"  At the same time as Mino incapacitated two targets, Mina already had another spell up and shot straight into the head of the last target without hitting the hostage.

 

"Alright! Hostage secured!"  Mino cried out in joy.

 

Unfortunately, her celebration was cut short. A short dagger flew straight into the back of her head.

 

*Bonk*

 

"Ouch!!!"  Mino teared up and rubbed her head as she bawled on the floor.

 

*Beep*

 

Suddenly, the whole area lit up, revealing the whole setup of the area. It was the army's underground training facility, which was often used by the shadow units to practice different scenarios and situations.

 

Today was the third day the twins had been using this training ground, five days after their escapade with Lily.

 

And as usual, the twins were training in hostage situations.

 

"Mino, I told you, we are not done yet until you hear the beep sound. You let your guard down too early!"  Rika walked toward them from behind the observation area.

 

"Uughh... I'm sorry..."  Mino apologized with wet eyes.

 

"You're too eager, Mino."  Mina shook her head.

 

"B-But, the scenario says that there are only five enemies and one hostage. Didn't we already defeat all five of them and secure the hostage?"  Mino looked around and saw the smashed wooden boards lying on the ground with various pictures of monsters drawn on them.

 

"Did you take into account the enemy's reinforcement? Or the integrity of the intel? Everything could go sideways as easy as taking candies from children."  (Rika)

 

"Wow... I never expect Miss Rika to take candies from children..."  (Mino)

 

"... *Smack*"  Rika hit the spot on Mino's head where she had previously hit with the wooden dagger.

 

"Ouch! I'm sorry..."  (Mino)

 

"You sure don't know how to avoid pushing your luck, Mino..." Mina sighed tiredly, looking at Mino, who was still crouching on the floor.

 

"Okay, clean this up. I'll set a new set of enemies and their positions. Let's do it one more time. Practice makes perfect."  (Rika)

The three decided to embark on a simple detour and headed to the marketplace. It was a cool evening in the capital of Lutenburg, so the detour was quite enjoyable for them, especially the twins, to unwind after their rigorous training session.

 

When they arrived at the fruit section, the aroma of ripe fruits wafted through the air, beckoning them toward the colorful display of many fruits.

 

Mina, Mino, and unexpectedly, Rika had quite a sweet tooth. They set out with giddy excitement. It wasn't like Yuri asked them to get anything specifically, and their wallets were quite thick since they were working for the army. The three split up and headed in three different directions.

 

Mino, whose favorite fruit was banana, headed toward the old lady that she often frequented.

 

Mina, whose taste preferred sweetness and sourness, headed to the uncle who sold apples and strawberries.

 

Rika, who is addicted to the aroma and sweetness of peach, went to the young couple who grew and sold it themselves.

 

Each of their faces was decorated with expressions full of happiness as they imagined how tasteful it was when they got to partake.

 

The three regrouped ten minutes later, and as usual, the twins received some extra from some shop owners they were friendly with. In the end, they got so much that each of them was carrying a bag.

 

Then, they returned to the apartment complex with light steps. After all, it was their most anticipated time of the day: dinner.

"I'm home!"  Rika opened the door and entered, followed by the twins.

 

"Welcome home!"  Yuri came out of the kitchen and welcomed them with open arms.

 

However, she was not alone.

 

Another woman dressed in a maid outfit followed behind Yuri.

 

"Welcome home, Miss Lily, Mina, Mino."  She bowed.

 

"Sister Luna!" The twins put the bag on the table and rushed straight into Luna's blossoms.

 

"Fufu~ you girls must really love your sister, huh?"  Yuri smiled at the heartwarming scene.

 

"Yes, she's the best!"  (Mino)

Apparently, Rika, Yuri, Mina, and Mino had become quite close after that night with Lily.

Rika and Yuri finally understood that Luna was a very caring person.

If she had to compare it, it would be like eating at a famous restaurant in a small town compared to a famous restaurant in a big city.

 

Luna had told the twins that she would be free every night for the next two weeks, a rare occasion that the twins welcomed wholeheartedly. When Yuri heard that, she suggested they should all have dinner together every day, and Rika quickly nodded her head. There was nothing wrong with this suggestion as long as Luna bought the ingredients. The twins also agreed right away, and Luna had no reason to say no.

 

So, they decided to have dinner as a big family every day for as long as their schedule allowed.

 

"How are they doing, Rika?"  Yuri asked Rika as she looked at the three sisters hugging happily.

 

"I've got to admit, they're fast learners. They had all the basics drilled into them when they were still in cadet training. I'm planning to have them take a field mission tomorrow or the day after."  (Rika)
