Now, to begin with, I would distinguish the technical aspect of the story and the stylistic aspect.
Technically, your story is fine. Grammar shows no major issues and spelling same. The plot seems coherent and logical. No glaring plot holes or logical jumps. Characters feel natural and react accordingly. Pacing is adequate.
fucking 500 words limit. Whoever implemented it should get shot.
Anyway, the issue is your style. Your kind of writing makes it difficult for the reader to process information. You have a poetic style, which has its benefits but also its drawbacks. Long elaborate sentences tax the reader and easily tires them out. Your frequent use of introspection doesn't make it easier. As a consequence, your story is hard to follow as you rarely deliver information directly. Instead, you prefer an indirect style.
