So, I've been having a discussion over on my Patreon on whether or not Hugo should have weak people in his circle. Some have said that it's cliched everyone he's associated with is all special people that are really good at something. Others said they don't want Hugo to be stuck "babysitting" weaklings and they would rather have people who can encourage his growth and watch his back at the same time, like Fiora.
No idea. It's a good (and hard) question, but I will say that whichever choice you make will greatly affect the plot and what form it takes.
I think it's fine for someone to be weak, but they must still have an impact in the story otherwise they'd be useless for both Hugo and the overall story. For example, someone could be physically weak, but have a huge emotional impact on alot of people in the story like world leaders/kings. You can have a completely average person build a connection with Hugo because they're wise like the elderly. There are lots of ways to do it, but don't make them useless.
bit late to the convo, my take on this is that any 'weak' characters added to hugo's harem or otherwise social circles should still be able to provide something to him or his loved ones. so think of the laws of supply and demand i say~!
other than that passing characters who get short term baby sat by hugo isn't a problem to me. seeing that it's a growing experience for hugo to realize he is different from others and not completely worthless, since those thoughts themselves devalues their own struggles.

Just got an artwork commissioned. It's a scene when Fiora and co. came to Hugo's mansion far later in the story.
It's not the best, but I got it for cheap compared to the Sherry artwork.

Just added a new Hugo chapter on my Patreon where he can't resist the urge to pet that fluffy tail. 
Also, I now have two more tiers. Basic for $2.5 that gets you five advance chapters. And Expert for $7.5 that gets you twelve advance chapters. Planning for the latter to go up all the way to fifteen.
So, basically, it's 2.5 bucks for five chapters. Which I think is pretty cheap compared to other authors' Patreons over at Scribblehub who wants ten bucks for ten chapters.

Ah yes. I think Hugo interacting with Tira the loli elf would also be interesting, especially since she encountered Sherry. Though, I don't quite remember which direction she was going.
I wish I can write "cutesy/innocent" characters better. An old RP of mine just got resurrected and the other guy really nails the "cute noble brat" archetype to a T.
This is why Hugo's harem is filled with "serious", tough-minded women. That, and the story being as dark as it is, doesn't lend well to characters like that.
Fiora could've been that, but I'm sure people would rather have her current iteration.

imo between this one and hoseki no kuni are possibly two of the best manga series i've read in the last year+. not sure if i rank them higher or lower than elfen lied manga though. but i suppose they would need to end first before i can safely say.
