NB : I am currently writing my own novel, started a while back, but kind of stuck because various reasons especially editing the chapters again and again.

I played Trails of Cold Steel until the "Third", but I haven't played "Sky" and "Crossbell", only know their overall story and a bit details of it to really understand the "Third". I apologize because I can't really get motivated to play "chibi" style after playing modern "3D" style.
