Interested in what it means to care about someone — genuinely, imperfectly, at cost. Most of the characters in these stories are trying to figure that out and mostly failing in interesting ways.
Some habits ended up in the novel without planning to: the postcards with strange titles, the conviction that imperfect vegetables are worth photographing, the tendency to find certain kinds of failure funnier than they probably are.
Believes stories should make you feel something before they make you understand it. Working on whether those two things are actually different.
