I can say that I am
Maybe this, that, or
The other thing
Yet merely obscure
The breath of God
That lets me say
I am myself.

The things I choose and do
Push and pull
On the unchanging spark
That is me.

And these hidden, deeper things-
The swirling silver rings
Of my personhood,
The things that bear my name;
They may be right or wrong,
They may be weak or strong,
But never are they ever
Just a game.

I feel conflicted today
I am interested in and grateful for the modest popularity of Day by Day. Poetry can get pretty niche. Appreciating it isn’t guaranteed for anybody. I am encouraged by mine being noticed no matter on what scale. I’m glad I started this thing.
