Born and raised in Buffalo, NY, I am currently a PhD candidate in the Department of Sociology at Northwestern University. Most of my work, fiction and research focuses on the complexities of settler colonialism in the United States, and particularly how people of African descendent fit into its system of invasion. With my background being in urban sociology, I focus on how these broad themes of settler colonialism, decolonization, and African peoples in settler colonial societies exist on the level of cities, neighborhoods, and urban public space. Whereas my research seeks to better understand how settler colonialism operates today to provide intellectual tools to foster stronger decolonial sentiment in African communities, my fiction focuses instead on imagining how we can turn that decolonial sentiment into actions and how African peoples might deal with the consequences of decolonization (both positive and negative).
