I write traditional high fantasy, and science fiction, in the format of full novels.
I am posting my writing here as I work to further hone my skills, in hopes of one day being traditionally published.
I know people don't really read these... heck, I barely have any followers to begin with. But I'm really conflicted and distraught right now.
It's always been my goal to have Rip Current traditionally published someday. I was aware of first publishing rights - that companies want to be the first to present a story to the world. I considered though that both by posting only the first draft, and then removing it, I could avoid this.
I wanted to share my imagination with people and show them that it isn't weird. I wanted their validation. But I also wanted to feel like I could make a positive impact on people.
But I dunno. The path ahead seems impossibly hard. It would require me to write a handful of manuscripts all on my own with little input - as it is hard enough to get readers here, but people I know IRL don't care/don't have time to read my work in the way I need help.
So I just kind of feeling like giving up. I don't want to waste tons of time writing the trilogy I wanted Rip Current to become, only for it to only be shared with a handful of people, make me no money for all my time spent, and for me to hate it because I don't have wiser people to tell me I'm not a Brandon Sanderson clone.
I just don't know. I'm tired. I feel like I have no power or connections to figure things out. I wish that there was a more clear path to publishing, but there is not. So I just warn you my readers - that Rip Current will at some point disappear.
Either I will take it off halfway through the manuscript to save it from being banned by publishers, or I will realize it can never be published, and honestly just give up.
Again, I know that so many of you enjoy it... but I just don't know...

Well, it is finally done. After four or so years of work, I've finished my first novel. Granted, it's a fan work, but I feel it has helped me learn the skills needed to write my original fantasy.
I'm not sure if I will do much editing of the story. Not being my original creation, I have less stake in it to see it succeed - however, I feel that for what it is, I'm proud of what I accomplished.
Two thousand views on Wind Waker. It feels awesome. It took me ages to get that on Wattpad, so I'm glad to see it doing better here.

Umm... I'm curious about your name change. I hope you don't mind the question... is your new name perhaps "wah, such wind" written differently? 
No, not at all. Wasatch is a reference to a shoshone word, probably something like "high mountains."

I've published a new chapter of Wind Waker - there is only one more to be written. Then I will release the remaining ones every other day, until finally, it will be complete.

It is a variable thing. It is nice to have views, but I prefer reviews and comments.
The thing is I don't think I actually get all that much of those. I do have one person who's a fan of my work, who actually talks to me on discord, so that's cool.
It has been a bit since I last released a chapter of The Wind Waker, as I was working out how to adapt certain things. In the end, I decided to just take the coward's way out and remove a bunch of stuff. The fact of the matter is, the story gets rather tiring when it is just an endless repeat of the same old stuff.
I also want to get it done. It's been in various states of completion for several years now, and I want to feel free to devote all my efforts to Rip Current.

it is difficult - what with my unusual content compared to the rest of the site. I'm encouraging a friend to bring his own fantasy works to the site.

You know what sucks? When someone randomly gives your story one star. That basically means to me that your story is unpalatable. It is not worth reading. Idjit.
Nix that. The rating went back up to five. Don't know whether the mods fixed it or if the troll had a change of heart, but glad to see that dealt with.
How do I do that? Can I just report myself and then explain in the comment box?
It's at the bottom of the home page under "Contact Us". I heard that the mods are quite responsive. (which is why it got removed pretty fast)
There's a few trolls I've seen on this site from the one year I've been here so any suspicions, feel free to report. The admins know about this quite well.
Mine also disappeared already and I've contacted one of the moderators. It seems they were targeting in new series that release for the past few days with 1-2* ratings.
