Good morning, dear listeners! This is Sun City FM Traffic Radio, your loyal travel companion, meeting you on the other side of the airwaves every hopeful morning. I am your host, Emilie La Sanchez, and I thank you for choosing to share this precious driving time with us as the busy day begins.
As the first rays of sunlight bathe the land of Hamilton, waking up the slumbering city and ushering in a brand-new day...
April 1st, 7:00 AM
Zoe listened to the traffic broadcast while simultaneously heating up snake soup with her heat vision. Both tasks progressed in tandem without affecting each other.
After last night’s training and experiments, Zoe had reached a new level of skill. She was now able to rely solely on her subconscious mind to decode the traffic broadcast from Sun City, functioning almost like an automatic process.
Although there was still some lag, she could feel the improvement as the practice continued. The delay was essentially due to the time it took her to decode the broadcast. With more practice, she would be able to do it instantly.
As for other electromagnetic waves beyond the traffic broadcast, she would have to wait for her nightly training sessions to attempt decoding them. Different frequencies required different demodulation and decoding methods, and it wasn’t a matter of a one-size-fits-all approach. Fine-tuning was still necessary.
So, at this point, Zoe was essentially a human radio capable of receiving Sun City’s traffic broadcast.
However, given that the demodulation methods for different radio waves were largely the same, it wouldn’t take long for her to decode other frequencies as well. In just a few days, she would be a fully functioning human radio.
As she pondered this, Zoe noticed the snake soup had reached the perfect temperature. She stopped releasing heat vision and opened the glass bottle to take a sip.
The soup tasted even more delicious, and she nodded in satisfaction. Listening to the broadcast and enjoying her increasingly flavorful snake soup made these mornings feel especially relaxing.
Looking out the window, the sunlight gently caressed the earth, waking all things from slumber. Dew on the grass glistened, and the city began to stir in the morning light.
Before beginning her usual exercise routine, Zoe briefly reviewed the recent data records in her memory palace.
Since her fifth evolution on February 17th, the data from February 18th to the 22nd remained consistent. She hadn’t missed a single detail.
In these records, the duration of her heat vision hadn’t increased despite frequent daily use and training. Just like her mental coverage, it was difficult to improve through daily exercises.
Zoe believed that she would have to wait for her next evolution, tomorrow, for the duration of her heat vision to improve, much like the range of her mental energy.
However, other abilities had made significant progress during her training. Her muscle tremor endurance had increased to nearly 19 seconds, and her baseline strength was now close to 3.5 tons.
Satisfied, she nodded and picked up her weighted equipment to begin her daily training.
Time seemed to accelerate, with the clock advancing quickly as if an invisible fast-forward button had been pressed. Each second passed rapidly, leaving no trace.
Two hours of training passed in the blink of an eye, and it was already 8:45 AM when the sound of a knock on the door interrupted the rhythm.
Without a trace of sweat, Zoe set down her equipment and walked slowly toward the door. Her energy had recovered quickly, and by the time she opened the door, she seemed completely refreshed.
“What’s up?” she asked, looking at Benny, who was dressed in a suit. It was unusual for him to dress so formally—something must be going on.
“Let’s go! The eSports Guesthouse is opening today!”
“Come over to play some games and have fun,” Benny said, pointing behind him, inviting Zoe to join him.
Zoe briefly scanned her surroundings, tuning into the world with her awareness.
Benny had placed some flower baskets at the entrance of the building and hung a small banner that read, "eSports Guesthouse Grand Opening Today."
Indeed, an eSports guesthouse.
Originally, Benny had planned to convert the fifth floor into an internet cafe, but he realized the space was too small. The two rooms combined only amounted to about 200 square meters, and with walls that couldn’t be removed, the usable space was limited, not enough to fit many computers.
So, Benny decided to turn the two rooms into a more luxurious eSports guesthouse, adding soundproofing and equipping each room with five computers and five eSports chairs.
The result was an eSports guesthouse—similar to an eSports hotel but warmer and more suited for friends to play together. After gaming, they could rest on the beds and authentic tatami mats ordered from Japan added to the rooms.
After six or seven days of overtime work, the renovation was finally complete, and today was the official opening.
“Alright, let’s go,” Zoe replied with a smile. After closing the door, she followed Benny.
On reaching the fifth floor, they found a shy young man standing in the hallway waiting.
He wasn’t particularly striking, but there was a quiet, scholarly air about him. His slightly thin, medium frame was complemented by black-rimmed glasses that framed his clear, somewhat bashful eyes.
“I’ll introduce him. This is Angston Castillo from the adjacent building. I met him during a volunteer activity,” Benny said with a smile. “He’s a student at Hamilton University, and since he lives nearby and has plenty of free time, I hired him to help manage the daily operations of the guesthouse and handle registration tasks.”
Benny had set up the small business on the fifth floor not out of financial necessity but to show that he wasn’t the type to idle away after his transformation. He didn’t really need the income from running the guesthouse, nor did he want to manage it himself, so hiring someone was essential.
“Hi!” Angston said, bowing politely. He was incredibly grateful for the high-paying job Benny had offered. What college student wouldn’t treasure such a relaxed part-time job with a salary over 10,000 romanis a month?
“Alright, go ahead and turn on the computers. Watch and we’ll show you how to dominate in gaming,” Benny grinned.
