Right after he and Ame had listened to a lesson in the classroom, they headed toward the headmaster’s office. Hecates escorted them since they did not know the layout of the Transcendent Academy.
Tatsumi however felt his chest tighten and his heartbeat increased dramatically. He did not know why but he felt something dramatic would happen to this planet.
Ever since he saw the image of the planet’s formation up until the appearance of the humans on the planet’s surface, Tatsumi felt like he was connected to the planet somehow.
He held his chest to alleviate the uncomfortable feeling he had. His vision became slightly blurry but soon returned to normal.
‘Boy, the time has come! It is the Third Star Battle!’ Kudungga exclaimed in Tatsumi’s head.
‘So this feeling I am having is related to the Star Battle. I should tell…’ Tatsumi thought as he took a deep breath and stood straight.
“We need to be quick. The Third Star Battle has already begun.” Tatsumi said while walking hastily past Hecates.
“Wait, young man! Let me lead the way.” Hecates had to speed up his movement while Ame had a look of realization on her face and followed suit.
Tatsumi faltered on his step. He had forgotten that he was clueless about the location inside the Transcendent Academy. He adjusted his step to be equal to that of Hecates.
After a few minutes, they arrived in front of the headmaster’s office. Tatsumi could not hear anything from the other side of the room which meant that the protection of the office was excellent. Anything that happened inside would not be leaked outside.
He even placed his ear on the door, hoping that the action would enable him to hear something from the other side but to no avail.
Hecates chuckled.
“Young man, that office has soundproof walls and protective barriers. Your effort is in vain.” He said to Tatsumi who furrowed his brow.
Tatsumi not only placed his ear on the door to listen in but also to use his transcendent energy to probe inside. Just like Hecates had said, there was a protective barrier that separated the outside and inside.
This was one of the utilities of the transcendent energy he had in his body and he used it to probe something beyond his human perception.
“True that.” Tatsumi said before he backed off from the door. Just as he did that, the door that remained closed suddenly opened with great force, so that even Hecates was a bit surprised.
From the office, the three of them could see the figure of Long Wu, Mikazuki Yamaguchi and the headmaster.
“Eh? You are here. Things are getting a bit busy since we made some preparations for the Star Battle…” Long Wu wanted to tell Tatsumi something but when he looked at the young man, it looked like the young man wanted to tell something to him instead.
“May I?” Tatsumi asked for permission before he spoke was due to the strength that the people in front of him possessed.
Ame nodded since she realized that Tatsumi knew something. The rest nodded their head in agreement since it would not hurt to hear someone’s out.
“The Third Star Battle has officially begun! You all probably will receive the same information around ten minutes but I have a bit more connection so I know that at this moment, we are already in it.” Tatsumi said.
He said it because he was confident that the influential figures in front of him would not treat his words as a joke.
Long Wu frowned but soon calmed his face. Hecates had his face stiffened while looking at the female headmaster with a pleading look. The headmaster herself had her gaze focused on the young man, trying to discern something from him.
Tatsumi did not flinch, nor did he back off in fear. Although he felt the terrifying pressure bore down on him, the matter was important enough to let him face this as if he were risking his life.
Then the headmaster smiled, seeing Tatsumi resist her pressure. The fact was that she used a bit of her intent as well as the transcendent energy inside her to create the pressure that would terrify lifeforms.
Tatsumi looked like he was overwhelmed but stood his ground told her that this young man had a strong will despite his young age.
She then retracted the pressure and Tatsumi was able to breathe again, his body trembling slightly.
“This young man has potential. Looks like you have a good eye for talent.” The headmaster glanced at Long Wu.
Long Wu lifted the corner of his mouth, feeling pleased that he was praised.
“Headmaster Kushina!” Hecates exclaimed with a respectful attitude, bowing slightly since she was done with Tatsumi.
“Spread the news, we have to gather everyone able-bodied and answer the summons of the old Thebes Kingdom!” Kushina said with resolve in her voice.
Hecates nodded, acknowledging the situation before he left.
Tatsumi had something in mind since he was sure that the situation had changed drastically. He looked at Ame and Ame noticed that his look was one where he wanted to say something to her.
He got close to her, saying, “Do you have a way to contact Miss Hua Fei or Nene at least?”
Hearing what Tatsumi said made Ame realize that their five-day tour could be extended indefinitely.
“Right now, it is difficult. You know what it means for our civilizations to be in the middle of a Star Battle, right?” Ame tried to think of a way to let that happen but the regulations when in the Star Battle were strict.
Essentially, ninety percent of civilian activity would be reduced as much as possible and most production went toward something related to the military.
Furthermore, there would be restrictions regarding travel. This was done in case the enemy could use either technological or transcendental methods to bypass the frontline.
Tatsumi clenched his hands; he was worried about his family but he had no way of contacting them. He did not want them to worry about him.
Fortunately, the entrance to the Cerulean Planet was through a rift. It was the only entrance and both sides would have a fierce battle once the rift was discovered.
However, there was a chance that the enemy could infiltrate without the combatants' knowledge and cause damage in the rear. That was what concerned Tatsumi the most.
“I know that. But there is a chance that the opponent has something to cause damage to our rear. That is the possibility that cannot be ruled out.” Tatsumi said, his tone firm.
“Hmm, then why don’t you use my line of communication instead?” Kushina, who heard the conversation, joined in.
Tatsumi and Ame knew that she was the headmaster of the Transcendent Academy and had weight in her word.
“Really? Can you help me?” Tatsumi felt the need to tell his family that he was fine became the most important thing that it looked like he was a bit desperate.
“With the help of the young lady here, it is completely possible.” Kushina assured.
“What can I do?” Ame was taken aback and quickly asked for things what she could do.
“Thank you! Let’s go before the whole world knows about this.” Tatsumi thanked the headmaster before he made a gesture for the headmaster to lead them.
Kushina then strode toward another room. It was as big as the headmaster's office and this time Tatsumi knew that this was a room used to relay information across the entire kingdom, probably even to other powerhouses of the continent.
Tatsumi and Ame followed behind and knew that this was the special communication room. There were people inside and they looked quite busy.
Kushina approached one of them and patted the person on the shoulder.
“Mmm.” The person knew that someone touched him but when he turned around, he did not expect that the headmaster herself would come to his place.
“You are in charge of communication to the Hinon Federation, correct?”
“Yes, ma'am. What can I do for you?” his voice sounded a bit meek.
Tatsumi swore that he could see sweat forming on the man’s face. It looked like he was so nervous that he barely said those words.
“This young man wanted to contact someone there. This young lady knows the exact procedure, so tell them what you need to do. You know what to do.” Kushina said before letting Tatsumi and Ame go near the man.
There were several procedures to get the communication approved and finding the exact line was not easy. That was where Ame came for, her input was to make sure that the communication line went in the right channel.
Tatsumi was also learning from this. He saw that the man used some device to probably connect to the other end, who was in the Hinon Federation territory. Then he finally picked up the upper part of the device and put it beside his face.
‘Wow, that is a telephone. So that is how you use it. I wonder if this can be simplified.’ Tatsumi thought about the wonder of the device. If it could be simplified, then communications across the continent and even intercontinental communications became easier.
“Alright, now I can call whoever it is in the specified region and even district. Thanks to the young lady.” The man could not express how thankful he was for the presence of others. Being watched by the headmaster was both an honor and a burden so he had to express his thanks.
“No need for that. After all, he is the one who needs to communicate with his important people.” Ame shook her head while giving a look at Tatsumi.
“Please connect it to the other end.” Tatsumi requested that while grabbing the phone. It was attached to the lower device with a cable, so Tatsumi had to communicate near it.
The man nodded and finally input something. Then Tatsumi could hear a tone signaling that the line was trying to connect to the other side.
Then the tone disappeared and all Tatsumi could hear was someone who picked up something that could produce noise.
“Hello? Who is this?” a familiar voice could be heard from the phone.
“Mister Grant? Is this you?” Tatsumi had to make sure that he had the right person.
“Wait, is that you Tatsumi? What are you doing using the telephone to communicate?” Grant was a bit confused as to why Tatsumi used a telephone to contact him.
“Can you get Sister Hua Fei or Nene for me? There are a lot of things I need to convey to them.” Tatsumi said curtly.
“Wait a moment.”
Tatsumi did not put down the phone. He could hear the hurried footsteps of Grant moving away and became faint. He knew that it needed some time for them to come back.
Ame was calm, only looking at him silently as usual. She did not do anything that would make Tatsumi uncomfortable, even though her stare became more obvious to Tatsumi ever since he gained sensory ability with his transcendent energy.
Then after a few minutes, large footsteps could be heard from the background noise Tatsumi could pick up.
“Hello. Tatsumi, why are you calling?”
‘This voice…Sister Hua Fei.’ Tatsumi mused.
“Yes, I am here. There are things that I need to talk about. It is about me and the situation on a global scale. Please listen carefully.” Tatsumi said while taking a long breath. He knew that this was going to be a long explanation.
Hua Fei on the other side was concerned about what Tatsumi might say. It was because she detected the serious tone that he had been using that she knew the matter was serious.
“I think I cannot go back three days later. The whole civilization will be shaken because that big event is upon us. It has already begun and there will be restrictions for civilians due to potential safety issues. Please listen to the arrangement of the Federation or someone trustworthy like Granpa Miyamoto Mamoru. Other than that, please tell everyone else that I am fine here. There are people here who will take care of me well.
“Then I can tell you that I have become a Transcendent. You know, the people who hold great power that the soldiers see in their service. There is an academy here that dedicates its effort to delving into the world of the transcendent. They are the ones who allow me to communicate with you now. Please give your thanks to them if possible.” Tatsumi said this in one breath.
“Tatsumi, are you alright? Do you want to say anything else?” Hua Fei knew that from his voice alone, Tatsumi had a heavy burden that he wanted to share.
“Well, I don’t know if I can go back three days later or not since it is a bit uncertain how the situation would develop but the civilians are going to be enlisted as Reservists. You know that, right? At least we are not going to the frontline so don’t worry.
“I don’t know how to say it but I kind of become someone that has to do something for not only my family but also potentially the whole humanity…”
Tatsumi felt his heart beating faster. He was actually nervous about telling Hua Fei something so important like this. He realized that being a Star Child was more of a burden to him. But if it could help the people close to him, he would willingly bear it.
“Are you saying that you bear a great responsibility? Are you sure you can do this?” Hua Fei was concerned and tried to make sure that Tatsumi was mentally prepared to what was about to come.
To her, even if the world changed, her concern for one of her children would not diminish.
Ame was surprised to hear such a thing from Tatsumi. She had assumed that Tatsumi would act indifferent, but seeing this…changed her perspective of him.
‘I can understand what went through his mind when he said those things. I can relate.’ Ame said inside her mind.
“I think…for the sake of protecting that which is precious to me, I can do it.” Tatsumi said this with a determined gaze.
He was afraid of not reaching the expectation that he was supposed to reach. He was afraid that failing those expectations would make the entire civilization stuck in a bottleneck. If that happened and the Star Battle occurred while the civilizations remained weak, he would not be able to forgive himself.
He would become the biggest sinner of all.
Tatsumi knew that he had to at least help in any way he could but he did not know where to start initially. After visiting the Transcendent Academy, he knew exactly where he should contribute.
“Then do it. As for us, you don’t need to concern yourself too much. You said it yourself that civilians will not be dispatched to the frontline. But please take care of yourself.” Hua Fei said that through the phone with some difficulties.
Tatsumi could hear the worry she had for him and could not help but sigh. His chest was filled with warmth as he had already prepared a reply in mind.
“Thank you for listening to me, Sister Hua Fei. And please also take care of yourself. I cannot call you forever so this will be the end of communication. Tell this to the others so that they will not worry, especially Nene. If there is nothing else, I guess I can say, see you later.” Tatsumi kept his mouth moving while listening for any chance that Hua Fei wanted to relay something to him.
He heard nothing of the sort, so he had to end the call and he did exactly that. He put the phone back in its place, ending the call.
Tatsumi closed his eyes for a moment. He had some plans from the beginning of the Star Battle to the end of it. At least he realized that he could only hope for the best for those who fight on the frontline.
He opened his eyes and the man was already setting something on the device. Tatsumi walked back to Ame and Kushina, giving them an appreciative look.
“Are you done with your matter?” Kushina asked. She could see that the young man was full of vigor, as if he had been through something monumental and gained immense insight from it.
“Yes. Thank you for your support, Headmaster.” Tatsumi bowed to her.
Ame also followed suit. She knew that this matter could be done swiftly, mainly because of this formidable woman. She also respected the headmaster’s strength and authority in this place.
“This is something that I have to do for a junior. Besides, you two are important people that we need to nurture.” Kushina replied.
Tatsumi and Ame accepted her words and stood up.
“Let us go to the conference room, which is a bit far from here. You two can follow me. Even if you are a Reservist, you are still part of the civilization.” Kushina said to the two of them before walking away.
Tatsumi and Ame knew that this was a precious opportunity to know the influential people in the Thebes Independent Kingdom. They followed after her.
Along the way, there were views of the beautiful garden in the middle of the building which was placed so suitably that it felt like complementary to the whole building.
But that was not what Tatsumi and Ame saw. They could see students were scurrying around along with the homeroom teacher, trying to go somewhere.
That showed them that the situation had improved to the point where everyone was aware of the situation they were in.
Tatsumi knew that no matter how weak a human connection to the Afterlife was, it still could relay important matters that involved the entire globe.
Thanks for the chapter!! 😁
