Oak looked at his brothers and sisters and cousins. “Tool. Spear,” he said.
He hefted the spear. It was a gift from Friend Broccoli. A Tool. His first tool.
Two abominations were held against trees, roots wrapping around their struggling form. His spear lashed out. One of them died.
Elm and Ash and Cedar and Pine watched.
“Tool?” Ash, always inquisitive, asked.
“Tree-Friend Broccoli. Cleaner of trees. Give tools.” He took a deep breath, his insides creaking with exhaustion. So many words.
“Good,” Cedar said.
He nodded. The next tool came up. It was a long pole, bent, with a taut vine between both ends. This one had confused him. Then he saw the frog-people hunters. He understood then.
An arrow was nocked.
He loosed.
The second abomination squealed at the hit. He had missed its head, but it was still injured. The next arrow missed entirely. Then third killed.
“Tool... bow,” he said.
“Use?” Ash asked.
“Teach,” Oak said.
Soon Sister Broccoli’s vision for an armed forest would be accomplished.

This is to announce that there's a sidestory, available here, about our dear treeboy. It's set in the same world as Cinnamon Bun, and is cannon, but the tone and theme are a little different.
I pity the loggers.
Oh dear! She has armed the dryads. She may have just upset the balance of the world...
'And Nature herself would rise up against her oppressors! She would arm her children, and theh would scour thr filth from her world...'
@Wolfmaster So Broccoli is The Mother...I can actually see that and She’s honestly Sexy And Cute And Also Hot And Wholesome with Bunny ears
Arms niw in natures hands is what scary what I find scary what it may do in long run, like more they develop tools more they develop in how to make them better potentially nurturing their intelligence, meaning if left uncheck evually may get smart as other races or more as trees tend live long lives, so in that regard they be like elf's with long life's but with ability to grow their own weapons, and as they showed they can will it into anyway or shape and design, mean they could turn that tip of living spears that will produce its own poison, or a tree archer being able create their new arros as they wish, and in they learn rune crafting, they may take a page from marvel and Hondu? I believe the blue guy with ravagers that can make a arrow and with whistle he can kill everyone, what if dryad's do simlair but with their will making thousands of flying living arrows that can fly as they wish killing all foes.
oohhh, this is a great sidestory :D
Question, will that story also be published here or only on Royal Road? I'd like to know if I have to create an account there or not :P
I think only on Royal Road, it's got a lot more traffic (at least for my stories) than ScibbleHub.
I guess it's time for me to create an account over there then
@RavensDagger Aww... Sad, but fair. It's such a shame people haven't noticed this story yet. I'll try to spread the word, but from what I know of Scribblehub's algorithms, the best way to get new readers is to put out consistent chapters and try to get on Trending. This definitely deserves to be up there.
She has created a growing force to prune the tentacle monsters. I guess she'll be playing fetch with the shadow puppies in a few chapters
Broccoli has to look out for her plant buddies
I hope we get to see a side story of the expeditionary group that went to the town.
Oh no
Oak army
I can't wait for someone to cut down a tree, only to be ambushed by a bunch of dryads with bows and spears
Just wait
the lorax but if the trees could fight back
