How many day has it been during this adventure… I think this is day seven if my memories is anything to go by, a week huh. I have two more nights here then, I think I should go to another town or perhaps to the royal capital itself, probably would be more eventful there, but before all of that there’s the mission of finding that guy or whatever.

#####

Now where should I start? That forest is clearly of no help… I‘ll just go outside of town and think of something, maybe that’ll give me some idea.

As I walked to the gate I noticed something. People don’t give me their weird stare from the first day anymore, guess they got used to it quickly, and that’s good for me as well.

Huh? Is that?... No way.

*Dash*

I run quickly to the western gate to see three figures, two of a guard and one of a girl, one I know full well, why is she here?

“Ah!” She let out as she noticed me rushing toward her, the two guard looked back to see me as well. Eventually I stopped in front of her. What is she doing here?

“I’ve finally found you” She said quietly, what is she thinking searching for me?

“Um, miss, is this an acquaintance of yours?” The cautious guard asked me.

“Y-Yes, I didn’t expect her to be here” I answered, glancing at her. She simply stayed silent, gluing her eyes on me.

“Well I guess that’s why she’s here, so nothing to worry about isn’t that right?” The carefree guard said to his partner.

“That doesn’t explain why she stayed so silent though” He noted.

“Well if it’s alright with you all how about you let her go? I’ll look after her” I said. Is she smiling? Just a little?

“I supposed that’s fine” The cautios guard said.

“Same here” The carefree guard followed.

“Alright… come here” I said feeling somewhat awkward, I reach my hand out to her.

*Grip*

She grip it tight and I began walking us to my room, I can’t talk to her out in the open like this.

We began walking back to the inn and people started eyeing us again.

“Just ignore them” I said with a slight bitter and resenting tone.

#####

*Open*

“Huh?” The receptionist girl let out seeing me with another girl. With Rosia, or however she called herself.

“I supposed inviting someone to my room is fine right?” I said.

“Yeah, that’s fine” She replied. And so both of us walked up to my room.

After both of us got in I quickly locked the room and walk to my bed and sit down. I stare at her and she stares back…

“...Why are you here?” I asked.

“To find you” She replied. But why?

“Why? What reason is there to find me? You’re not obligated to do so” I said. She should live by her own free will, not to follow me around.

“I’m not, I simply wanted to meet you, is that so wrong?” She asked.

“I mean… it’s really not, I just didn’t think you want to find me” I said.

“Why wouldn’t I? You saved me didn’t you?” She asked, not really sure as to what I meant.

“I left you there, abandoning you there after saving you, that’s a move of a coward, someone that doesn’t deserve this kind of treatment” I explained. I was never really sure about helping out others and stay by their side, I never have confidence in that sort of things.

“Even if you said that, you still save me and gave me home, after I lost everything, from my point of view that’s more heroic than cowardice” She said, quite insistent of her.

“...If that’s how you see it then I can’t argue on that front, then what now? You met me, now what?” I said with my head hanging low.

“Can’t I… join you?” She replied. I raise my head to met her eyes again. Perplexed.

“Huh?” I let out confused.

“You seems to be on a journey of some kind, can’t I be of help being with you?” She said, why is she so obligated to help me? Sure I save her, but does she have nothing else to do? Something she wants to see to fruition?

“You can, but do you have nothing else to do? Something you want?” I asked.

“In my entire life up until this second chance have been for one purpose, one that is rendered moot, I have no goal in mind left… that’s not accurate, there’s one more” So you do have something you want to do.

“Then why didn’t you go do that?” I asked.

“Honestly I’m not confident in my ability enough to go through with it just yet, that’s why I come to you first, I want to meet you again” She answered, and what is this other goal?

“Then what else do you want to do that you hesitate so much?” I asked.

“My sister, she lived with the family that abused me so much, I’m afraid for her well being there, she’s the only beacon of life I have back then, I want her back from them… but imagining the consequences I still hesitate in going through without even trying” She said. I see, sister huh… a story of bond between siblings… she was gone too soon…

Wait what was I on about? Even if she got her sister back, they’ll be facing grave consequence more than likely due to the nobles, regardless of how strong she might become, something I haven’t checked just yet. Let’s do it now.

Quite powerful considering her level, then again with how I modified her it should come as no surprise.

“Well honestly if she’s so important perhaps you should go seek her out first even with those consequences in mind” I said to her.

“Perhaps, but she’s not the only one important to me now. She’s a beacon of light for me for certain, but you’re as well” She said… I’m someone’s beacon? Someone important to them, I never think I’ll ever came across anyone who’ll think of me that way.

“I’m… surprised to hear that” I commented.

“Is that so. But still, I really don’t want to prioritize one over the other, both people I want in my life, you who gave me the second chance, and my sister who is the only one nice to me, supporting me, I came to you first because I noticed you searching for something yesterday” Ah, must be when I noticed her, flying above the forest, so she tracked me all the way here somehow.

“I see, but what will you do now? You found me and perhaps you want to join up with me, but you also want to find your sister don’t you?” I asked.

“I am, I want to find her but I don’t want to lose you either” She said. What a way to say it.

“Huh… well it’s not like I have anything else to do, how about we go find your sister then?” I bring up, her eyes filled up with hope. I mean there’s still the whole finding the missing guy but really it’s not a big deal for me, not like I have anything else to do at the moment.

“Really?” She said sounding hopeful.

“Of course, two more nights and we’ll go to wherever your family is at and we’ll do something about it” I said. She look really shocked.

“R-Really?” She said with a small smile on her face contrasting her default stoic expression.

“Yeah, if you follow me along and help me out with a few things I’ll follow you along and help you out with your sister, what do you say?” I said.

“Count me in, I’ll join you, that was my plan from the start” She replied. And so the girl who I rescued a few days ago now join me in this journey.

“That’s good to hear” I said. Still even with that bravado I’m not really sure how well I’ll guide her along…

“Of course… Demon Lord” She said, speaking of that.

“So do you actually believe what I said in the letter?” I asked feeling slightly amused.

“Considering what you did to me it’s not all that far fetched” She said.

“Ah, speaking of that how are you holding up? Becoming something not human I mean, you might find it unpleasant or frightening” I asked sounding a little concerned.

“I’m… fine, nothing wrong with me at all” She said sounding a bit in denial, there’s something going on isn’t there.

“Yeah sure, well there’s someone I need to find and drag to the guild, how about you come with me?” I said while standing up.

“Of course, but who are we finding exactly?” She asked.

“An adventurer with a horrible attitude, that’s what he is” I explained, why does she look somewhat tense?

“Really? What is he like?” She asked.

“If you mean how he look, then blonde hair and somewhat dark skin, carrying a giant axe” I described, now she look really stressed out, like her face look somewhat still but I can tell she’s hiding something about the guy.

“Okay what did you do to him?” I asked.

“I-I… I didn’t do anything” She said looking away. She must’ve killed him didn’t she?

“Don’t worry I won’t tell anyone, just show me where his corpse is” I asked trying to sound reassuring. She looked back at me.

“Truly? Are you fine with that?” She asked.

“Do you realize who you’re talking to?” I said.

“...Fair enough” She said as suddenly a skeleton appeared with an axe, so this is what left of him, I mean I have entertained the idea of dropping him off to her and let him get eaten but for it to happen anyway.

“Good job, well we’ll go out the town for a few minutes and come back with this, to look natural like we just found it alright?” I said as I stored these myself.

“Very well” She replied.

#####

As we walk outside I think I should ask her about how she have been.

“Say, how was your new life?” I asked as we walk along on the field.

“It’s fine, I’ve been training and trying out what you have gave me, though aside from that I didn’t do anything, not counting that… man” She answered.

“I see, hey if it’s alright with you how about we train? Do you have difficulty doing something?” I asked.

“Well… I don’t know much about magic and element to practice to be honest” She admitted, despite that her elemental proficiencies are pretty good, guess she’s quite talented.

“How about I teach you some tricks to help out? You can ask me for help whenever” I purposed.

“I don’t want to inconvenient you on that front after you helped me out so much already” She replied.

“Now now, think of it as an apology of abandoning you in that forest” I said.

“I really don’t hold a grudge about that, there’s no need to apologize or do anything to compensate” She replied, can’t she just accept it?

“It’s really nothing to worry about, if you’re stronger from this it’ll be convenient for both of us won’t it?” I asked, maybe this’ll convince her.

“...Very well, I’ll take you up on that, but when does this lesson started?” She asked.

“Whenever you want, actually we can just do it right now, not like we’re rushing or anything” I said.

“If that’s the case then let’s do it now” She said.

“Okay then, let’s go somewhere a bit more private so no one can see us, do you have anywhere in mind?” I asked.

“There’s a few good spot in that forest that might work, we can go there if you want” She replied.

“Then let’s go there, lead the way” I said and both of us began walking to the forest.

#####

Quite a nice clearing despite being in a forest, I’m not really sure what she’s lacking exactly so I need to ask her a few questions, but before that.

“Hey, have you use [Appraisal] just yet?” I asked.

“That thing you write about? Honestly I haven’t used it just yet, what about it?” She asked.

“Just asking, sometime it can be quite useful if one can gauge the opponent’s strength isn’t it?” I explained.

“That’s true… do I need to chant out the spell or does it worked like [Status]?” She asked.

“It’s part of the same system so yes you can, check me out” I said as I point at myself.

Her eyes widen for a moment and flinched slightly, must be due to difference in stats.

“Now then, any question?” I asked.

“It said that you’re a vampire, how come you can stay in broad daylight?” She asked, oh so it’s the whole misconception isn’t it?

“That’s just a misconception, vampires are fine in the broad daylight, in fact they have zero weakness. Things like running water and garlic? Ridiculous, all of them are” I explained.

“Absolutely none? What about other demons?” She asked.

“I mean do humans have very specific and arbitrary weakness? I don’t think so” I replied.

“So holy power and such doesn’t affected us at all?” She asked.

“More like holy power or whatever nonsense it is doesn’t exist, if it’s about light magic then we reacted to it just like any other human” I explained.

“So what’s even the catch of being a demon?” She asked.

“I mean like humans demons still have to hunt for stuff and survive, they can eat things just like humans, but each kind of demons have their own exclusive food sources, some eat humans, some consumes more abstract existence, like emotions for example. Overall their existence exist on a higher level than that of a human, in fact they rarely interact with humans and they can safely get their meal from with without anyone realizing, so more often than not humans and demons barely interact” I explained, Kaa-san always have long lecture on this kind of subject back then, turn out I actually got to use them.

“So demons are just superior humans?” She asked.

“More or less, humans are among the weakest species in existence, with only their intellect and good affinity with most elements to keep them going, it’s a good thing for them that demons usually stayed in their own realm” As a former human saying that stings a little, but it’s certainly true in this world at least, vampires, dragons, demi-humans, and many more exist in similar standing but with much greater power.

“But… what about the war of humans and demons?” She asked.

“That? What the humans fought wasn’t demons, if they all are demons humans most likely won’t survive in the first place, those are demi-humans, humans with features of other creatures in this world, they could be considered an in-between of humans and demons, but they certainly aren’t the latter, humans simply assumed that they are demons due to the difference in features, it’s all a big misunderstanding really” I explained, the whole thing is a mess that’s for sure.

“Then, what about you and the Hero? It is said that you instigated the conflict and the Hero always rise to oppose you, ultimately both of you died in the end, and forever reincarnated, where does that fit in?” She asked, she’s quite knowledgeable on this subject huh, then again maybe humans are all educated on the subject and everyone knows about it at this point. Still some part are certainly not said, I’m not sure if what Kaa-san said about this is true or not, or how she come to know about this in the first place, but there’s no harm in telling.

“It all began when the humans start discriminating against the demi-humans. This is a very shortened version of the story by the way. The demi-humans, unable to endured the abuse due to their smaller numbers and relatively unorganized society, began tapping into forbidden arts from the Age of Creation, do you know of it?” I said.

“I have seen mention of it in books before, but not much information on the subject” She replied.

“I see, it’s the age of when everyone began experimenting with mana and its potential, this is the age where many mystical and miraculous creations were made, however even if it sounds like a fantasy it is very much the truth, and many artifacts and writings of that time still persists” I explained.

“So the demi-humans gain some access to these things and began using it to retaliate?” She asked.

“Exactly, with some outside help, they managed to turn one soul in particular into a soul that persists, that filled with one simple goal in mind, with great power that resides within, and I supposed you can tell who that is” I said.

“I can tell, but that doesn’t match up with your actions is it not?” She asked.

“We’ll get to that later. The Demon Lord is born and began wreaking havoc, but the demi-humans themselves are dragged into the chaos and bloodshed as well. Anyway at this time the humans are pushed back, and with some outside help and similar arts to the ones the demi-humans used, they created their own version of the Demon Lord, the Hero. With the Hero in place and the mutual killing of both in place, the demi-humans are pushed back and live desperate to survive. One thing neither side expected however is how the trait of both are linked to their soul, and therefore with enough time both of them will reincarnated and began the whole thing over again, usually in about 200 years, that’s the story behind this war” It’s a perpetual cycle of conflict and honestly it’s sickening. The Hero and the Demon Lord honestly have it the worst, with no real free will of their own and constantly dying while losing their identity with time, no longer able to recall their name, their family, their world. The memories of how it all started simply isn’t there for me, the tampering doesn’t help either.

“That’s… much more messed up than what we were all told” She noted.

“Yes, and they certainly didn’t tell you about how it’s their fault in the first place, then again I doubt people of this time are even aware of their sins” I said.

“But that doesn’t really explain why you’re the way you are, demons shouldn’t exist here for you to be born as if what you said is true, and you’re certainly anything but destructive” She said. Say that to all of the people I killed on the very first day without much remorse, some part of that still remained, and I can’t shake it off.

“First off, some demons can born outside of their realm, some demons can be born from non-demons, for me, I was born with a vampire mother, she’s a tough one I’ll tell you that. And for the second question, it’s such a complicated story that you shouldn’t worry about, just know that I’m not like how I was before and leave it at that” I said. She thought about it for a while.

“I can see that the status shown implies something regarding that, but I’ll wait for you to actually explain it yourself” She replied.

“Okay, that’ll work, now let’s get onto the lesson” I said.

“Very well” She replied.

With this lesson over and done with, we’ll go back and report the annoying guy’s death, and then I’ll register her as an adventurer and have her come with me on my adventure. Of course I can’t forget about helping her little sister either.
