*Knock* *Knock*

I knocked on what I think is the principal’s room. I’m good at memorizing paths I’ve taken before so I don’t need to ask anyone as to where this is. I got a few questioning looks from the students and teachers, but thankfully no one dared to interrupt me, it’ll be a bit troublesome no doubt, with most if not all of them being pompous and stubborn most likely.

“You may come in” The person on the other side of the door said, in a calm if slightly stressed out tone, perhaps due to work.

*Open*

I opened the door to see the youthful man sitting on the table with some paperwork. It’s pretty easy to tell he’s still working, if only said work doesn’t use as much physical labor and a mental one. I walked over and stood in front of the desk with him lowering the papers and looking at me.

“What is it that you need?” He asked disinterestedly. Seems he’s not too enthusiastic in this whole deal, I doubt anyone would be when their future might hang on it.

“Nothing special, I just want to go outside. Most probably know it’s usually not wise to let a stranger from an unknown land to go out there isn’t that right? I’m here to seek your approval, it would be in my best interest to get authorization from the higher ups here. For using the shops, the guild, those kinds of things” I explained myself, and he looked at me dubiously and certainly not in the mood. He took out a stamp and a piece of paper, wrote something down and stamped the paper, he then handed over the paper to me.

“Just don’t go cause any trouble and you’re good, here’s the official document, go show it to whoever in case they think you’re an intruder” He explained sounding bored. The content of the paper is just a declaration of me as an honored guest from elsewhere looking around the capital, nothing too out there as far as I can see.

“You got it” I replied as I walked out of the principal office. It’s time to travel around the capital.

#####

I walked out of the academy and what is in front of me is simply a pathway elsewhere, not exactly much around here, just some trees and fields. They probably don’t want any houses nearby to disturb or be disturbed by the academy. Probably going to be a bit of a long walk until I get to the center of this surprisingly big capital city.

#####

The city is booming with many people walking about, many shops about. From the looks of it a majority of the center is either shops or inns, not particularly a lot of houses around, I saw some on the way to the center of the city, but not in it. That aside, where is the guild? There’s one in every world or time I’m in as long as it’s not the modern time. It’s probably not too hard to detect, I just need to walk and look around a bit more.

That sword and shield sign sure seems to be indicating something, either it’s a smithy or a guild building. No harm in checking it out. Walking up to the entrance and then walking inside, the other person walking in first doesn’t seem to care to close the door behind her so I don’t have to do any extra pushing, and inside there is certainly not a workshop of any kind, certainly a guild building.

The inside is big and made mostly of stone, the floor made of wood and a few stairs that leads to up the second and third floor, the first floor where I’m at is very populated with many clearly experienced or enthusiastic adventurers.

I walked around a bit with a few curious looks here and there, seeing the board with a few requests on them, the receptions are filled with questions and requests, with people talking and conversing in the lobby sitting at many wooden tables.

The person who went in before me is resting at one of the said tables, she’s quite eye-catching compared to the rest, her minty hair stays still as she quietly sits at the table by her lonesome.

“Huh? What are you looking at, newbie? Or at least someone new here, whatever” She said disinterestedly noticing my glance. Even though she only noticed me just now she picked up on my unfamiliarity quickly, she got a good intuition on her. On her side are two sabers, which must be her weapons of choice.

“You seem pretty reliable is all, I’d imagine you can show me the ropes” I casually replied. She doesn’t look too interested in doing so whatsoever.

“It’s just the same old if you’ve done this elsewhere, no need for me to say anything” She said dismissively and clearly conveying her lack of interest in helping out a ‘newcomer’. She’s quite a tough nut to crack, but that’s fine, I’m not too interested in her just yet.

“Okay then” I replied as I walked over to the bulletin board… not many interesting requests from what I see… Hold on, I still have the problem of lack of identity here, I can’t do any work without it, I should’ve asked that principal guy for a proof or… right there’s that thing, let’s go sit over there and take an extra look.

Oh it has a designation for the guild! Mythril ranked for me and… whatever class I may choose. I just need to go show this during registration. Probably that relatively line over there, so let’s get in line.

“Welcome miss… you’re not an adventurer?” The receptionist looked rather surprised that someone like me isn’t registered as such, just from my appearance alone I do look like a seasoned hunter at least isn’t it, that just made that woman’s intuition all the more impressive.

“Aye, or rather I’m not registered for confidential reasons until now. Here’s a special document for my registration” I said while handing over the paper to her, she observed it and looked extremely surprised, taken off-guard by its content.

“T-This is…” She muttered.

“Reiza Warea is my name. Just put in spellswords archer as my class, I’ll be waiting, and you can keep that paper until the card is done” I said as I walked out of the line and went to sit elsewhere, a few people heard my conversation and looked at me with suspicion. The minty haired woman earlier noticed the commotion as well and stared at me for a few seconds, looking for some sort of suspicious behavior.

I walked over and sat close to her, much to her surprise and irritation, she’s not good with people that much is easy to tell. She’s a unique individual among the adventurers here, standing out way more than others, so I’d reckoned there’s more to gain from talking to her than everybody else.

“So? May I inquire your name?” I asked politely, she just looked at me with slight discomfort.

“Name’s Floria” She muttered. I would say her few words and tactless attitude betrayed her beautiful look, but I know it’s not exactly a turn off for some.

“My name is Reiza Warea. Yes I do have a last name. I just arrived here this very day, so I would like to get acquainted with those familiar with the city, like you for example” I introduced myself with more tact and explanation. The somewhat noble-like conduct seems to make her a bit uneasy, guess people here don't fare well with them, not that it’s unexpected of course.

“Not asking anything in return?” I asked, seeing her remaining silent.

“Why would I? Nothing you could help me with” She replied sounding slightly irritated. ‘Help’ isn’t that right? That’s the key word here to get to know her better.

“Are you perhaps challenging me?” I asked with a small confident smile. She noticed this and looked at me dubiously trying to inspect my intent, which really isn’t anything special.

“Not really. It’s a personal problem anyway” She answered half-heartedly. She looked rather down all things considered, I can tell from first glance she’s not the most cheery of people but even then no one should be this weirdly down.

“Anything happened recently?” I asked. She’s looking a bit more interesting with each and everything she said. While it’s perhaps a bit twisted of a motivation, I would like to at least do something impactful in this world, making some difference, and this is one of said opportunities. Making a mark on history is certainly fun, especially seeing how people look at you, preferably or not.

“Just… Can you at least ask me elsewhere? So many people about it’s nauseating” She said, pointing out the many people hearing the conversation, and she’s not wrong on that front, and these people eavesdropping are being a real nuisance right now. I glared at them to screw off, and thankfully they take the message. It would indeed be better to take this rather personal conversation elsewhere, but I really don’t have any idea as to where to take her.

“Sure, but where exactly?... Ah, this is about the card right?” I asked for a location when suddenly a staff member approached me silently with two items in hand, one is the document that man has improvised, and another is the newly made adventurer card for myself. I took both from the girl and simply silently asked her to leave, which she obliged. Let’s see… mythril-ranked and spellswords archer, just as expected. I turn to look at the minty haired girl still with caution on her face.

“I can tell you’re dangerous alright, but why are you bothering helping me?” She quietly asked. I simply have a habit of helping out my friends or those who I find interesting, her being attractive is also a selling point but let’s not mention that.

“I simply think there’s something to gain from helping you is all, that and you’re quite a strong and reliable figure I could tell despite your attitude, would be a shame to let someone like that be weighed down” I explained not fully. She still doesn’t completely believe me but certainly looks like she’s willing to give me a shot at it.

“Okay then… Follow me to my room” She said standing up and leading the way, everyone else looked in astonishment, she is a big shot obviously, so such a reaction needed to be expected and ready for.

Both of us walked up the stairs into one of the rooms deeper in the hallway, so these are rooms for people to rent I would assume, and she has one far away from the main lobby. She opened the door and both of us went in, the place is very barebone compared to my own, that is to be expected of course.

She sat on the bed while staring at me… somehow it feels like everything moved a bit too quickly to be believable…

“Hey, I know I want this to all end quickly and smoothly, but is it a right idea to let a stranger in without a bit more… affirmation?” I asked awkwardly, while I’m grateful that she shows trust in me… somewhat, I’m a bit worried that she lets me mingle in her business.

“I trust my instincts. You’re probably a better bet than most” She replied calmly, at this point I’m not sure what to make of this. Still if nothing else I should ask what her problem is.

“So… what is this problem I might be of help with?” I asked politely. Her face looked a bit heavy, eyes downcasted and she stared at me.

“It’s personal so I wouldn’t say much, but there’s this bounty I need to collect myself… but I’m not certain if I can defeat ‘that” as I am now” She answered. I think there’s at least some story behind it that could be figured out. This thing she must defeat has a personal connection to her, that much is obvious… what else can be deducted from that…

“So… Do you need my help defeating this? Or is it something else you need taken care of for this goal?” I asked for clarification, she’s making a huge gamble telling this to a stranger from land elsewhere.

“I very much wouldn’t like anyone else’s getting involved, but seeing as you’re clearly anything but ordinary, I’ll give you a chance. I need a few things before I can go out and defeat her, specifically a place of hiding and a great deal of resources to stay low. Since you’re not affiliated with this kingdom you probably aren’t obligated in not doing some sketchy work here do you?” She explained thoroughly. What I can deduce from that is that she’s not planning to capture the bounty, at least not handing her off to whoever taking care of that, put her elsewhere for hiding, possibly with herself having to go into hiding with whoever has the bounty on her head.

“Okay… Is there anything else needed mentioning?” I asked, and her eyes downcasted again with much more hesitation in them. She’s thinking of what to say to keep her strength present, and she looks at me once again with an answer.

“I’m not confident in my ability to defeat her, can’t even beat that stupid noble person, I need some training at least” She muttered hesitantly, she’s clearly strong compared to everyone else in the lobby, yet clearly not the strongest or at least the most accomplished if she said that, strength is just half the battle.

“Training… Say, you use two swords do you not?” I asked implying something, while I might have to train those fours as well, one more person who seems to catch on quickly enough probably won’t be an issue.

“Yeah, just swinging and swinging until the problem goes away” She dismissively answered… just swinging isn’t that right? Doesn’t seem like she’s too skilled with her weapons, perhaps that’s why she lose to begin with against this person who she mentioned, even without appraising her it’s clear she’s extremely fast and physically unmatched by many, her body isn’t what I called tone but at least it’s certainly not smooth, her eyes fierce with experience of battle and instinct to match, and her swords isn’t exactly what one would call small either.

I think it’s time to appraise her already.

Her class is still novice level even at that high of level? And that status… This is worrying, is this why…

“H-Hold on a second, can I ask you something?” I asked, taken by surprise, that status… She’s quite an unfortunate one, and still goes far despite that, also her proficiencies are… trash…

“What?” She asked not really understanding my change in attitude.

“Have you ever tried… magic before?” I asked just realizing that perhaps it’s a sensitive topic of hers if my guess is correct. Her face immediately frowned upon hearing the word magic, I guess I was right.

“Absolutely fucking not. Why?” Her words are filled with clear rage, perhaps at herself as much as me. If I were to fix this… well I need to fix this or else we might not go anywhere.

“Does magic in general cause misplacement in perception or perhaps too much pain that ought to be? Or does your body feel a bit empty and not at full strength?” I asked, which caught her by surprise, had this world never dealt with mana jammed people before? I know in that world it’s fairly commonplace but… is this a world where magic is more common? Where humans are perhaps a bit stronger and more acclimated to mana? If I have to take a guess myself, of the three worlds I’m aware of this is where the standard of humanity is probably the highest, something is going on and made people here slightly stronger than those of the other worlds, there is next to no individual in the other world that is not my own that had anywhere near triple digits, yet here is one existing not being revered as a hero or something, she would’ve been a massive deal there.

All of that aside she’s doing mighty impressive for someone who is basically crippled.

“How did you…” She muttered confusingly, dumbfounded by my accurate guessing. I simply walked over to her and sat on the bed as well, it’s certainly not a great bed but it’ll do.

“From where I’m from there’s this condition you also seem to be in as well, I do not know if people here have the treatment for it, but I sure do. If you could take my words with a little more faith, I could help you with your mana problem” I said inching closer towards her. Probably looked a bit creepy admittedly, but I’m trying anything particularly perverted here, just that the treatment can be a bit touchy in places, thankfully no where awkward, it’s essentially massages, just magic infused.

“A-At what cost?” She said frightfully? Is there perhaps another way to cure it that is extremely unpleasant she’s aware of? Mine is anything but that, so she shouldn’t worry.

“Not exactly sure what you’re thinking, but my treatment is just a bit of a muscle relaxation treatment via physical contact is all” I said exaggeratingly using more words than perhaps needed. She just looked at me a bit dumbfounded again.

“Huh?” She lets out not expecting that to be the answer, what am I to say about that exactly? Just explain how mine works I guess?

“Strip your clothes and lay down on your bed obediently and I’ll prepare the rest, just relax is all- Hey there’s no need to glare at me like some sort of pervert! I’m being completely serious here! We’re both girls so it’s fine!” Considering the time period this should take place in, the idea of loving the same sex should either be unheard of or derided, so she probably won’t suspect anything when I clear things up, not that I needed to anyway, just a bit of skinship… I can handle that much.

She still stares at me silently after I already explained what she needed to do, I stared back expecting the customer to follow the instruction of the expert.

Thankfully she obliged soon enough, that was a hot few seconds of awkward staring there. She lays down on the bed with most of her clothes covering her removed, it’s nice to see that undergarments exist in this world or else things might get a bit too heated. Why am I even thinking like I’m a closet pervert or something? I’m very much not such a person. No. Let’s not think about that.

*Press*

Removing my gloves I press my fingers on her back, slowly massaging it and trying to feel her body…‘s magic circuits, the thing that exists in the human body to allow them to output their mana, since just their mind is nine hundred and ninth ninety nine times out of ten not enough to conduct a spell, I know ghastly beings could do so without something like that, but it’s more of a fact that physical body limited the power of an individual within that vessel’s own limit, at least that’s what I’ve learned. Even if I get a lot of lectures and my own self-research on mana and how it is actually supposed to freaking work, still a complete headache of a topic. Still magic circuits cannot be so easily impacted by anything, let alone made completely dormant like this, it probably has something to do with… maybe a birth defect of some kind? Yeah I think that’s the conclusion I came to back then. Still fixing it is thankfully not too hard, it’s essentially building in and pushing the start button when it doesn’t have any and the power is off, which is thankfully is not a thing for actual electronic devices.

Anyway back to reality at hand, by getting my hands all touching her body and using my mana to feel hers, I could detect her mana, it might stay dormant with the defective system, but at least there should be something in there, even if it’s not usable, just move my hands gently to feel it all a bit more… let’s ignore her squirming and keep going, trying to find all the dormant parts…

She’s certainly feeling itchy which is making it hard to do my job properly…

There!

*Pulse*

“Ahhhhh!!!” She screamed out in pain feeling something circulating in her body for the first time. Her body is twitching in pain and sensitivity. She might pass out from this actually, which might not be good for me since those people probably don’t expect me to stay out here for too long, like I said no one would be crazy enough to let someone of foreign world loose.

I stand back up and cover her with the blanket while she’s still squirming about. I need to make sure no one even thinks about getting into the vicinity of this room, and to explain my plans and a bit about myself later so I can gain more of her trust, nothing I particularly needed, but a person who I can help and be a great ally is someone I would be enthusiastic in helping.

Now I have to wait for things to calm down, and of course continue my stories here smoothly, coming with resolutions for everything if possible.
