Icy
Icy looked at the destroyed rooms of Level 2. The ground was still wet. Water had penetrated all rooms. The laboratories could not be used for the time being. They had lost several of the maturing shadows. 10 'unborn' children.
Number 1 was also damaged, which is why the shadows gathered in the corridors and cleaned up without orders. They needed one of the technicians from the seat of government to make Number 1 functional again.
Burgstadt barely moved at half speed. A few of the boilers had been damaged by the penetrating water, pipes had torn and fallen over. Two shadows had been injured. But all this did not shock Icy.
He didn't feel anything while helping the others clean up.
Feeling nothing?
Well, maybe this wasn't quite true.
Icy wondered if the boy's business was lost. He had seen the water. Presumably, the boy was on the verge of ruin. Or he would face ruin if he had not taken the most precious goods with him.
Flo. His name is Flo.
"Number 100?" Number 5 rushed to him. Water dripped from the hair of the other shadow. "You're fine."
"You too." Icy nodded.
"Certainly. I was lucky." Number 5 stepped a little closer so he could whisper in Icy's ear. "I was able to save the data."
"Data?"
"For our cause."
"Good. Where is it?" Icy didn't know what data it was. He was not so much privy to the plans. There were only a few. Except for one, no one knew every detail. A security measure.
Number 5 looked around briefly. No one listened to them. "In my bag. I'll keep it with me for now. Until Number 1 is repaired. Do you think they will erase his memory?"
"Why should they?" Icy frowned. "They only do that in the event of a major malfunction. As long as his brain is not damaged, they will only repair him."
"Ah, good. If someone asks..."
"What should I say? Wet as you are, you can't have been with me on Level 4", Icy interrupted the older shadow.
"Right. So tell them I got a distress signal from Number 1 and that's why I went back. The signal only came through briefly, then it went out. I know that you are supposed to monitor me. What I don't know is what Number 1 is planning. Does he want to sacrifice me?"
"Fine, I'll say that", Icy agreed. So he knows. "I don't know his exact plans. It's a risky situation. Sacrificing someone so as not to jeopardize our plans would be a logical decision."
"For our cause", mumbled Number 5, patted Icy on the shoulder, and left. But then he turned around again. "I heard that we are being sent to the headquarters. Together with Number 12 and Number 20."
Samuel
He listened while the mayor received the damage report. Minnie had access to all Levels again. At least as far as the technology on the Levels had not been damaged. There were a few gaps, but they were unexpectedly few.
At least that's what Samuel had heard the clone say. He himself was most interested in his home Level. Level 4, which Minnie just reported about.
The 'fairy' rarely spoke to them personally. Her high-pitched voice sounded like that of a little girl. "Level 4 is largely unscathed. There was a small leak, but no water came through. Nevertheless, the plain is affected by the damaged systems of Burgstadt. The holographic displays are down..."
Lena was lounging in one of the armchairs that were in the office. She sat there with a mixture of shock and boredom, which was very clearly written on her charming face.
Samuel had previously wanted to help her tidy up her room. The girl declined.
"To the overall situation! Burgstadt was smashed by the storm against one of the many rocks. First, the outer wall broke at Level 3. In addition, there was damage on Levels 2 and 1, partly caused by a Kraken attack", Minnie chirped. "The repairs will take a lot of time. Level 3 is temporarily uninhabitable. Levels 1 and 2 were almost completely destroyed by the water. I recommend staying on Government Island for the time being when you arrive. “
"Confirmed!" Mina's hologram appeared flickering and nodded. "The ruler is informed and agrees. He is looking forward to having his niece with him for a longer period of time. However, the population is not allowed to leave Burgstadt. The government island remains accessible only to authorized persons. Other wandering cities have offered their help. Both medically and technically."
Samuel wanted to roll his eyes.
The citizens of Level 3 were sitting in the garbage, but they were not allowed to leave?
"Are citizens distributed to other cities? If their houses are unusable?" asked Lena.
The mayor frowned. "As far as I know, some of the cities suffer from overpopulation? They had hoped to send us some families from their cities. But here, Level 3 is affected by overpopulation. And now it is no longer of use for the time being."
"Positive!" Mina sat down on his desk and let her feet dangle. Minnie's hologram, on the other hand, disappeared. "Consideration is currently being given to how citizens can be temporarily resettled from Level 3. How and if. The repair of the residential area has high priority."
Wonderful. At least Level 4 wasn’t damaged, Samuel thought bitterly. But even the residents of Level 4 would not want to take in anyone from Level 3. And you didn't even have to ask the residents of level 5.
"This makes it all the more important to complete the new towns and villages!" The mayor smiled. "Our capitals are overflowing!"
