Theodore and Hol finally reacted, each reaching out a hand to grab Luo Wei's slender arm.
As if suddenly realizing something, Theodore quickly pulled out his magic wand and cast a Swift Wind spell on all three of them. He then took out two iron plates, activating the weight-reducing and speed-enhancing magic runes etched on them.
Hol immediately followed suit, taking out all the rune plates he had and using them to further reduce Luo Wei's burden and increase her speed.
Luo Wei breathed a sigh of relief, finally feeling lighter.
"Which direction should we go?" she shouted, her voice barely audible over the dense rain that turned everything into a white blur, making it impossible to see clearly.
"The Behemoth is to the east. We head south! Your left-hand side is south!" Hol shouted back.
Luo Wei adjusted her direction and flew southward.
The Behemoth was massive, its body stretching across the Magic Beast Mountains, with its head facing east and tail facing west. It spanned over ninety kilometers, nearly covering the widest part of the mountain range's outskirts. Whether heading east or west, they would still be within its destructive range.
Having been dormant for years without feeding, the Behemoth's body was long and thin. Hol roughly estimated it to be only about twenty kilometers wide. Heading south or north would be the quickest way to escape.
The northern region was cold, so flying south was the better option.
They needed to move fast. Once the Behemoth fully emerged and began feeding, everything within a hundred-kilometer radius—mountains, plains, forests—would be swallowed and digested in its ravenous stomach.
In normal circumstances, Luo Wei could cover twenty kilometers in just over ten minutes. But now, with two people hanging on her, and torrential rain hammering down like cannonballs, her speed slowed significantly. Ten minutes passed, and she had only flown five kilometers.
Luo Wei was both anxious and exhausted, her wings flapping heavily as she mentally called out to the God of Souls in desperation.
If her unreliable boss didn’t show up soon, she was really going to die here!
She swore she would never again complain about the blessings of the God of Souls. Whatever the deity granted, no matter how painful, she would accept it. She just wanted to get out of here alive!
Amid the relentless rain, Luo Wei's back suddenly heated up. Her heart leaped with joy. The God of Souls truly was a benevolent deity! She pledged her faith to Him for eternity!
Theodore and Hol suddenly noticed their speed increasing. In mere moments, they covered a significant distance, reducing the remaining journey to just two or three kilometers.
Was this the true power of an angel? Incredible!
"We're almost there! Just two or three kilometers more, and we'll be out of danger!" Theodore exclaimed, tears of relief streaming down his face as he spotted stable mountain peaks in the distance. These peaks stood firm, showing no signs of tremors or upheaval, indicating that the land beneath them was free of the Behemoth's body and unaffected by the surrounding chaos.
They could finally set foot on solid ground and head east to find a teleportation array to leave the Magic Beast Mountains!
But just as they were about to escape, a sudden gust of wind blew from their rear-left, driving rain sideways and slamming into Luo Wei's wings. She pitched forward, nearly plummeting.
As she struggled to stabilize herself, a massive shadow loomed in the corner of her vision. At the same time, Theodore's piercing scream echoed through the air.
In the very moment they were about to flee beyond the Behemoth's reach, its spiked tail swung toward them with terrifying precision.
As the colossal tail struck, Luo Wei felt an overwhelming force slam into her back. The world seemed to fall silent, and her vision blurred. Whether it was the wind from the tail's swing or direct contact, she couldn't tell. All she knew was that she was sent flying, along with the octopus-like lich beside her.
The Behemoth's tail swept from west to east, flinging them hundreds of kilometers away.
Luo Wei felt her chest compress painfully, her wings breaking under the impact. She lost her ability to fly and hurtled helplessly toward the sea.
Her vision darkened, but her body burned with heat, as if on fire. Before she could hit the ocean, she lost consciousness.
Under the stormy sky, a gray-blue octopus streaked through the air, its thick tentacles clutching two figures as it plunged into the turbulent sea.
Both Luo Wei and Hol were unconscious—the former from physical exhaustion, the latter from his fear of heights.
Only Theodore remained awake. Despite being the loudest screamer earlier, he had reacted the fastest when the Behemoth's tail struck.
In his original form, he had shielded Luo Wei and Hol with his tentacles, bearing the brunt of the impact. As a result, he was the most severely injured.
Five of his eight legs were broken. Tears streamed down Theodore's face. It hurt so much—physically and emotionally!
With a loud splash, he too lost consciousness.
At the easternmost edge of the Magic Beast Mountains lay towering cliffs hundreds of feet high. Below them, the ocean churned violently in a whirlpool-like current, home to sea monsters that preyed on anything falling from the cliffs or carried in by the tides.
Anyone unlucky enough to fall into these waters and avoid being eaten by sea monsters would likely be carried northeast by the ocean currents, drifting further and further away...
...
The storm subsided, and the clouds began to clear.
The sky darkened as the moon slowly rose over the sea, hanging in the black expanse like a silver beacon.
In the ghostly blue waters, a human-shaped piece of driftwood floated. Clinging to it was a gray-blue octopus with only three remaining legs, one of which held a winged girl.
The weight-reducing and speed-enhancing runes on their bodies were still active, allowing the ocean currents to carry them far away. By dawn, they had drifted over eight hundred nautical miles.
It wasn't until Hol awoke with a splitting headache that he realized he had reverted to his original form. A creature larger than a house was clinging to his waist, and beside him floated the barely-breathing Luo Wei.
Thank the Lich God—they were all still alive.
"Theodore, wake up!"
"Luo Wei! Miss Luo Wei?"
Hol shook Theodore awake, and together they called out to Luo Wei.
Luo Wei's body was ice-cold, her skin pale and swollen from prolonged exposure to water, devoid of any color.
"I know! The Purple Dew Grass!" Theodore exclaimed, rummaging through his belongings. His clothes were gone, but the pouch tied to his third leg was still intact.
Ah, the woes of poverty. Even in death, he couldn't lose his valuables!
Theodore pulled out a handful of Purple Dew Grass and handed it to Hol, who crushed it into a paste. Holding Luo Wei's mouth open, he squeezed the juice down her throat.
Unprocessed Purple Dew Grass had mild toxicity and could cause nerve paralysis or hallucinations. But they had no other options.
A few hours later, Luo Wei slowly regained consciousness. She stared blankly at the blue sky and fluffy white clouds above.
"Luo Wei?"
"Miss Luo Wei, how are you feeling?"
Luo Wei sat up and saw the withered, bark-like face of Hol and the large octopus head behind him. She asked sluggishly, "Hol? Theodore?"
"It's us."
"How did we get here?" she asked, propping herself up to look around. They were surrounded by endless ocean, and she was sitting on a cracked reef.
"Don't you remember? We were swatted into the sea by the Behemoth..." Hol recounted everything that had happened since they woke up. "After drifting here, Theodore scouted the area. There's no sign of intelligent life or land nearby. We have no idea where we are."
Theodore added, "Fortunately, I found this small island and brought you both here."
