As soon as Sheng Wenyin finished speaking, the room suddenly fell silent.

Realizing her words might have sounded harsh, she quickly tried to make amends, saying, “No, no, that’s not what I meant. I don’t hit or scold people…”

Before she could finish her explanation, a thunderous burst of laughter erupted.

“HAHAHAHAHAHA!”

Startled, Sheng Wenyin turned toward the source of the noise and found Aunt Zhuang laughing heartily. She was slapping her thigh as she laughed, tears almost streaming down her face. “Hahaha! See? Qi Si is impressive, isn’t he? I always knew this brat had something to him! Hahaha!”

Still laughing, Zhuang Yanqin nudged Zhan Qingjun with her elbow, causing him to lean awkwardly to one side, his teeth grinding in silent frustration.

Shen Mei and Xu Chu exchanged helpless looks. These two elders, nearly a hundred years old combined, were behaving like children.

Before long, Sheng Ru and Sheng Qiong walked over. As men, they didn’t join the women’s chatter and simply sat quietly, listening.

After a while, Feng Xiaoxiao approached with a cheerful grin. “Yinyin, Brother Shi and I are heading out.”

Sheng Wenyin was taken aback. Earlier, she and Qi Si had invited Feng Xiaoxiao and Shi Yan to stay the night, as it seemed inhospitable to let them travel back late after helping with their program. They had even brought their own pajamas and toiletries.

Now, however, it seemed the unexpected crowd had prompted them to leave.

Frowning slightly, Sheng Wenyin immediately stood up and said, “Let me talk to the production team. We can probably rent a nearby guesthouse.”

Feng Xiaoxiao waved it off. “No need, really. It’s still early, and going back now works fine.”

Sheng Wenyin wasn’t convinced and called toward the kitchen, “Qi Si!”

Shen Mei chimed in, “You two just stay and have fun. We’ll be leaving soon.”

She glanced at her mother-in-law, adding, “Right, Mom?”

Zhan Qingjun remained silent.

Xu Chu gently patted Shen Mei’s hand and murmured, “Just stop talking.”

Shen Mei gave up, looking around at her mother-in-law, Aunt Zhuang, and Xu Chu’s collective pretense of calm. Then she glanced at Sheng Ru and Sheng Qiong, who immediately avoided her gaze—one looking at the ceiling, the other at the floor.

Shen Mei: …

She was utterly exasperated. What was with these people? They had promised not to intrude, to have a meal and leave. Why were they planning to stay overnight now?

Just then, Qi Si walked over from the kitchen, wiping his hands. “What’s going on?”

“Xiaoxiao and Brother Shi want to leave,” Sheng Wenyin explained.

Qi Si frowned, his sharp gaze sweeping over the sofa, where some were fiddling with their fingers and others with their hair. Finally, in a cold voice, he said, “The ones who should leave are them.”

The room fell into a hushed silence.

Knowing they were in the wrong, the Sheng family collectively zipped their lips. Even Zhuang Yanqin didn’t dare argue with her son.

Sheng Wenyin sighed. “I’ll call the director.” She stepped onto the balcony with her phone.

When she returned, she said, “The program has rented the big villa in Area D, Number 2. Feng Xiaoxiao, Brother Shi, and Mr. Gu can stay here tonight. Everyone else will go there—it’s spacious enough.”

The Sheng family didn’t push their luck and pretended to agree silently.

But Sheng Xingmeng wasn’t having it. When he arrived after finishing his tasks and heard about the arrangement, he protested, “I was invited! Why can Mr. Gu stay, but I’m being kicked out?”

Sheng Wenyin stared at him coldly. “There are only three guest rooms.”

“I can share with Mr. Gu!” Sheng Xingmeng declared, turning toward Gu Jitong, who was seated in his wheelchair. “Mr. Gu, would that be okay?”

Gu Jitong looked at Sheng Xingmeng’s pitiful expression and, after a moment of silence, chuckled softly. “I don’t mind.”

Sheng Xingmeng immediately turned back to his aunt.

Sheng Wenyin sighed. “If Mr. Gu doesn’t mind, that’s fine. But there’s only one bed. Can two grown men manage?”

Sheng Xingmeng didn’t even let Gu Jitong answer. “We can manage! I don’t take up much space, and I sleep really well. I promise I won’t bother him!”

With both parties agreeing, Sheng Wenyin relented.

Seeing her chance, Zhuang Yanqin quickly added, “I don’t take up much space either. I can share a bed with Yinyin…”

Qi Si narrowed his eyes at his mother. “You. Leave.”

Zhuang Yanqin glared at him. “I—”

Zhan Qingjun hurriedly interjected, “Yes, yes, Yanqin, you should stay in the big villa. It’s spacious. But maybe I can share a room with Yinyin?”

“Mom,” Sheng Wenyin said helplessly.

Zhan Qingjun froze. That single “Mom” melted her completely.

Dazed and overwhelmed, she stammered, “Alright, alright, I’ll listen to you. Whatever you say goes!”

Hearing this, Sheng Wenyin’s ears turned slightly red.

Half an hour later, the Sheng family had all left, leaving the four original guests in the marital home.

Feeling awkward, Feng Xiaoxiao murmured, “It’s like we forced everyone out…”

Finally relaxed, Sheng Wenyin leaned lazily against the sofa and said, “The guest rooms are limited. Even without you, they wouldn’t have fit.”

Sheng Xingmeng kept quiet, fearful that his aunt might remember it was his fault the others had shown up.

Qi Si brought out a tray of fruit, sat beside Sheng Wenyin, and gently massaged her hand. She was nibbling on a strawberry and initially tried to pull her hand back, but the massage was so soothing she couldn’t resist.

The group chatted idly for a while until Sheng Wenyin, still holding a strawberry, leaned against Qi Si’s shoulder and fell asleep.

“Is Yinyin really that tired?” Feng Xiaoxiao asked softly, surprised.

Qi Si didn’t reply. This dinner had been a challenge for Sheng Wenyin. Mentally and emotionally, she had been stretched to her limits, leaving her utterly drained.

Sighing, he said, “Let’s all get some rest.”

The others quietly went upstairs, leaving Qi Si alone with Sheng Wenyin.

Pulling her closer, he let her rest in his arms, his other hand continuing to massage her fingers.

Meanwhile, in the surveillance room, the assistant director sighed. “They really don’t hold back…”

Click.

The assistant director turned to find the chief director taking photos.

“Can you stop? You’re even using the shutter! Why don’t you turn on the flash while you’re at it? We have confidentiality agreements! Wake up—you’re the chief director, not the Monkey King’s CP leader!”

Feigning innocence, the director sneakily took another shot before saying, “Alright, alright, no more. Oh wait—she’s awake!”

On screen, Sheng Wenyin had indeed opened her eyes but remained in the same position, quietly nestled in Qi Si’s arms.

“Good thing I was quick,” the director muttered gleefully.

The assistant director glared, contemplating violence.

But just as they were about to wrap up for the day, Sheng Wenyin closed her eyes again. Remaining in the same position, she feigned sleep, her breathing steady and even, as Qi Si continued to hold her hand.
