Sheng Wenyin wasn’t pretending to sleep. She simply wanted to close her eyes for a little while longer.

Like many people who wake up but don’t immediately get out of bed, she nestled in Qi Si’s arms for about another minute before sitting up.

The man seemed to sense her awakening and gently released her.

Sheng Wenyin stood up from the sofa, stretched lazily, and without glancing at Qi Si’s face, said casually, "I’m heading back to my room."

With that, she dashed upstairs, her footsteps light and hurried.

Qi Si watched her retreating figure, a smile curling at his lips. He tidied up the coffee table and then went upstairs to his own room.

The next morning, very early.

Feng Xiaoxiao woke up to the tantalizing aroma of freshly made corn pancakes wafting from downstairs.

After quickly washing up, she rushed down to the kitchen, where Sheng Wenyin was busy cooking. Without hesitation, Feng Xiaoxiao darted forward and hugged her from behind.

Sheng Wenyin, steady on her feet, didn’t sway or stumble from the impact. She merely said, “Slow down.”

Feng Xiaoxiao clung to Sheng Wenyin’s waist, resting her chin on her shoulder and giggling foolishly.

Sheng Wenyin deftly flipped the pancake in the pan and asked, “Is everyone else awake?”

Feng Xiaoxiao replied in her usual clingy manner, “When I came down, Brother Shi’s door was open, so he should be getting up soon.”

Sheng Wenyin didn’t say much in response.

Then Feng Xiaoxiao added, “Sister Yin, this house seems to have poor soundproofing. Last night, even in the middle of the night, I could hear Teacher Gu and Teacher Shen next door.”

Sheng Wenyin froze for a moment. She checked the pancake, added some fried eggs and grilled sausage, spread on some sauce, and asked, “What were they doing?”

Feng Xiaoxiao whispered conspiratorially, “It sounded like they were debating whether to share one blanket or use two.”

When traveling and forced to share a bed, people often prefer to have their own blankets. After all, while the bed can be tolerated, sharing a blanket with someone who isn’t very close is another matter entirely.

Sheng Wenyin had prepared two blankets for Gu Jitong and Shen Meng’s room the previous night. However, the bed was only 1.5 meters wide, and with tall people and thick blankets, it was likely a tight squeeze.

Sheng Wenyin asked, “And then?”

Feng Xiaoxiao shrugged. “Then I fell asleep. I don’t know how they worked it out.”

At that moment, Shi Yan came downstairs, stretching as he approached. Overhearing their conversation, he said, “In the end, they used one blanket. It’s spring, so the nights aren’t that cold—one blanket worked fine.”

Sheng Wenyin placed the pancakes onto a plate and handed them to Feng Xiaoxiao. Turning, she greeted, “Good morning, Brother Shi.”

Shi Yan chuckled. “Morning.”

As Sheng Wenyin cooked the last pancake, she asked, “Brother Shi, did you hear them too? Is the soundproofing really that bad?”

Shi Yan nodded. “Yeah, I even went to check. They were arguing for so long that I knocked on their door and offered for Shen Meng to sleep in my room. But Teacher Gu said no.”

Feng Xiaoxiao giggled. “They must be pretty close, then.”

Shi Yan nodded thoughtfully. “That seems to be the case.”

It was natural to feel a little awkward sharing a room with someone you’d just met, like Shi Yan. But Gu Jitong and Shen Meng were already friends, so it wasn’t as uncomfortable for them.

As the three of them chatted, Sheng Wenyin finished making all the pancakes. Wiping her hands, she asked, “Has Qi Si gotten up yet?”

Shi Yan replied, “His door was still closed when I came down.”

Sheng Wenyin frowned and muttered, “That’s strange. Qi Si usually wakes up earlier than I do.”

Shi Yan: “…”
Feng Xiaoxiao: “…”

Shi Yan blinked in surprise, while Feng Xiaoxiao quickly turned to stare at Sheng Wenyin.

After setting the breakfast table, Sheng Wenyin said, “I’ll go call them. You two start eating first.”

As soon as Sheng Wenyin disappeared up the stairs, Feng Xiaoxiao swallowed nervously and asked hesitantly, “Didn’t they just start the mock marriage yesterday?”

Shi Yan, still a bit dazed, mumbled, “So how does she know Teacher Qi’s daily routine? Could it be that they…”

Feng Xiaoxiao immediately denied it. “Impossible!”

Then, as if suddenly recalling something, she exclaimed, “Oh, right! They’ve worked on a movie together before. They must’ve lived on set during filming!”

Shi Yan nodded quickly. “Ah, that makes sense!”

Feng Xiaoxiao followed suit. “Yes, yes, that must be it!”

When Sheng Wenyin reached the second floor, she saw that not only was Qi Si’s door closed, but so was the door to Gu Jitong and Shen Meng’s room.

She knocked on the guest room door first.

The door opened, revealing Shen Xingmeng holding a pair of pants, looking rather disheveled.

Upon recognizing the person outside, Shen Xingmeng smiled brightly and called out, “Auntie!”

Sheng Wenyin frowned slightly, her gaze dropping to Shen Xingmeng’s half-dressed state. “What are you doing with those pants?”

Shen Xingmeng replied, “Helping Teacher Gu put them on.”

Sheng Wenyin paused, glancing into the room. She saw Gu Jitong sitting on the bed, a blanket covering him from the waist down. He smiled at her when their eyes met.

Remembering that Gu Jitong was currently recovering, Sheng Wenyin said, “Alright, get dressed and come down for breakfast.”

Shen Xingmeng quickly replied, “Got it!”

Sheng Wenyin then walked over to Qi Si’s room.

Just as she raised her hand to knock, the door suddenly opened.

Qi Si stood inside, holding his phone. He looked slightly surprised to see her mid-motion, raising a fist at his door. Arching an eyebrow, he asked, “Were you planning to hit me?”

Sheng Wenyin lowered her hand, exasperated. “I came to call you for breakfast.”

Qi Si put his phone into his pocket, pulled her closer by the waist, and said, “I had a call to take early this morning. I’m done now.”

Sheng Wenyin stepped out of his arms and went downstairs ahead of him.

At the dining table, Feng Xiaoxiao and Shi Yan were waiting, clearly wanting everyone to eat together.

Not long after, Shen Xingmeng helped Gu Jitong downstairs.

Once everyone was seated, they began their meal.

The breakfast was simple yet surprisingly delicious.

Feng Xiaoxiao, moved, said, “I didn’t know Sister Yin’s cooking was so amazing!”

Shi Yan nodded in agreement. “Better than anything you’d find outside.”

Shen Xingmeng immediately boasted, “My aunt is the best, of course!”

Even Gu Jitong smiled and complimented the food.

But Qi Si put down his chopsticks after just a few bites.

He took a sip of soy milk but didn’t touch the pancakes again.

Gu Jitong noticed and asked, “Teacher Qi, you’re not eating?”

Placing the soy milk back on the table, Qi Si said flatly, “I usually don’t eat fried food in the morning.”

The room fell silent.

The other four stared at him.

Even if it wasn’t to your taste, shouldn’t you at least finish what was served? After all, Sheng Wenyin made it herself—rejecting it so outright seemed unnecessarily harsh.

Shi Yan, as the eldest, thought of saying something to persuade Qi Si to eat a little more.

Before he could, Sheng Wenyin suddenly stood up.

Shi Yan’s expression shifted, and the other three were startled as well.

Feng Xiaoxiao quickly rushed over, grabbing Sheng Wenyin’s waist to stop her. “It’s not worth it! Sister Yin, it’s too early—don’t start a fight!”

Sheng Wenyin, confused, pushed Feng Xiaoxiao away. “Start a fight? What are you talking about?”

Feng Xiaoxiao blinked in surprise. “Then… what are you doing?”

Sheng Wenyin replied matter-of-factly, “I’m getting him some porridge. Didn’t he say he doesn’t eat fried food? He prefers porridge in the morning, so I made some lean pork porridge. It should be ready now.”
