Long ago, there was nothing… then in the nothingness creatures made of pure mana appeared. Known by many names, but, were eventually universally termed monsters.

Later on many intelligent races came into being. They had naught but one thing in common, they were all too weak to fight the monsters.

In a fierce battle for survival, the intelligent races learned to wield pure mana, create tools, and harness teamwork to prevent extinction.

For hundreds of thousands of years they were locked in an impasse. Both sides grew fiercer, stronger, and more dangerous with time.

However, the races eventually experienced a period of intense development out pacing the monster's growth.

The races targeted and destroyed the majority of monsters before the monsters managed to respond. Only the strong, lucky, or hidden monsters remained.

Peace didn’t come as the intelligent races hoped. Soon, Mana levels rose throughout the universe. The mana that made up the monsters was released back into the universe.

From the heightened level of mana, new monsters emerged stronger than ever,.

Realizing the futility in fighting monsters, the intelligent races defended instead. They worked together to create a magical network they called the System.

The System was slowly built for countless years designed to promote communication between races, locate monsters, identify/awaken individuals talents, and eventually managed to prevented new monsters from forming inside the area of the magic net.

The System formed an instantaneous advantage in the endless war. As the System became stronger and encompassed a wider range the monsters were systematically hunted down.

Eventually, the System encompassed the entire universe and the intelligent races cheered! They had done it, ended the endless war. No longer did they have to fight monsters for survival, even the most powerful remaining monsters avoided attacking the races now.

Expect, everything was just beginning… the mana level soon reached new heights. Spells were stronger and easier to cast than ever. This wasn’t the blessing they thought at first as eventually mana…. changed…. became different.

The mana had been constantly building up impurities. There were no longer enough monsters to absorb the impurities and purify them, as monsters were all but extinct.

The cycle of mana had been broken… impure mana built up… then mutated and corrupted. Like a virus the corrupted mana spread, corrupted throughout the places with impure mana.

The System fuel was mana and under the corrupted mana, it soon began to malfunction… then, almost completed failed in locations with corrupted mana. Monsters more terrifying and destructive, than ever before began to appear.

Not everyone was oblivious to the consequences, but the universe had been at peace for too long. Monsters had long become a simple inconvenience in the minds of the people. Knowledgeable people discovered the purification effect monsters had on mana while experimenting on normally uninhabitable backwater planets.

Various scientists of the intelligent species quickly realized their mistake and publicized their findings… but, change doesn’t happen easily in any universe.

The monsters were a long forgotten threat by this time. The politicians, and masses, preventing them from altering the system, or magic net.

They didn't want monsters to return. They demanded the experts figure out another way to purify mana.

Even if they had succeeded though, it was unfortunately too late. The monsters formed from corrupted mana were different from normal monsters. They were stronger, even more aggressive, and spread corrupted mana.

Corrupted monsters, called monstrosities, took in purified mana and converted it into corrupted mana. The speed of the corrupted mana spread began to increase exponentially.

Eventually, monstrosities learned enough to act with basic intelligence and not purely by instinct. They began actively seeking out the largest sources of pure mana, the worlds of the intelligent races. Instead of the previous stalemate, the intelligent races were soon overpowered.

The corrupted monsters were stronger than ever before, but not undefeatable.

However, the cycle had already been broken and even slaying the monstrosities simply released any corrupted mana back into the universe, where it would later reform into new monstrosities.

If that was the only problem, not all would have been lost, but this universe had been formed from pure mana... and the corrupted mana was slowly starting to eat away at it.

Panic spread, the powerful of the races were being slaughtered by the new monsters. The universe began to slowly dissolve around them.

This universe had only known peace for many generations and the races were no longer unified. Throughout the universe the intelligent races split up into factions, each with independent goals, each attempting in own strategy for continued survival.

Some planned to abandon the universe, leaving for other universes in the multiverse.

Some built shelters in backwater worlds to hide.

Others thought this was a new age, or trial, that monstrosities were sent by the gods.

Some, extremists, launched attacks on the mainframe of the System, which demolished the majority of its remaining functions in even uncorrupted areas.

Regardless of this, however, most were simply people trying to survive this catastrophe and many agreed to work together to survive.

Among this group of various races there were those who called themselves, The Redeemers, they refused to abandon their universe. In a fit of stubbornness or willpower, they decided to redeem this universe with their own hands.

They soon realized that the only solution would be if they could purify the corrupted mana. They partially succeeded. They creating a process of mutation that could allow intelligent races to absorb corrupted and impure mana and purify it.

Unfortunately, the bodies of the intelligent races had long become dependent on pure mana to survive. Trying to mutate their bodies to accept corrupted mana is about as silly as trying change a human's respiratory system to breath underwater.

Still, with their best efforts, they managed to create an automated procedure with a very low success rate. For the few it succeeded, they gained a new powerful abilities that evolved from absorbing corrupted mana and purifying it.

Despite the low success rate, they forged onward utilizing their technology and magic to create a safe haven for the mutated to grow… sadly, ran out of time. Corrupted mana had spread almost everywhere in the universe, even to their safe haven.

Everyone un-mutated began to get sick then die from simple exposure to the impure and corrupted mana in the atmosphere, they no longer had the option of waiting as they attempted to improve the procedure. They began the process of mutating everyone.

Over this period of time, The Redeemers had been hard at work to create a stable environment and left artifacts, relics, and weapons for the elites who survived the mutation to help them combat the monstrosities.

With most of the System disabled due to extremists and corrupted mana, The Redeemers set up a simple teleport under the system control to save anyone left alive in their universe.

This would teleport anyone the system could find that was un-mutated and accepted a prompt by the system to undergo the process. Anyone unable to respond was deemed in danger and teleported for safety.

Around this time, though, various ethic groups had worked together and managed to build a portal to escape the universe.

Through this portal, the System detected people throughout omniverse.

With most its functions destroyed, it had a little logic left... but an impressively large mana pool.

Soon, the system determined nearly everyone it detected in the omniverse to be un-mutated, thus in danger of dying due to the impure mana. Using its standard protocol, it discovered it couldn’t contact the people. Deeming them unable to respond, it teleported them into the universe to began its mutation process.

Through this series of unfortunate circumstances, millions of people from various universes to become denizens of this dying universe.

Perhaps… though… this is would simply be the beginning of a new story…
