The fox girl waitress returned with a new towel.

“Here-” The fox girl placed the towel on the table carefully. “-This should get you all dry.”

Rin silently accepted the new towel, absentminded as she thought about ways to avoid this curse of bad luck.

Meanwhile, Kara glared at the waitress with deathly eyes.

“I’m sorry.” The waitress quickly scurried off with another apology.

The two sisters sat in silence for awhile.

Both of them thought about their own problems.

Rin spent the time thinking about the supernatural bad luck experienced over the past months.

Whilst Kara alternated between internally scolding the waitress and pondering Rin’s warning. Kara knew the nature of her power and could understand the gist of the situation from the warning.

The only information of curiosity to her was that Rin seemed to know the situation better than her.

Kara had been secretive about the nature of her power. There is a massive difference in treatment between people that can help others change the future in their favor and people that simply predict a preordained future.

From that information, Kara could speculate that Rin had awoken her own power and that it wasn’t a weak power.

“Let’s go back to my house.” Kara interrupted her sister’s thought process. “We should get you a change of clothes and talk in private.”

Eyes flashing, Rin had a strange thought. ‘Why suddenly change the venue?’

It was a strange question to ask considering the situation. Rin was soaking wet and needed to change her clothing. Additionally, they couldn’t exactly talk in-depth about private topics in this public place.

…but Rin had learned multiple rules over the past months to deal with this ‘bad luck’.

The most important rule was to ignore the random desires that popped up in the moment.

It wasn’t objects that this ‘bad luck’ had the most control over. Instead it was best at controlling people’s subconscious thoughts and desires. It manipulated people’s subconscious desires subtlety to change the entire outcome of a situation.

This supernatural ‘bad luck’ couldn’t make a virtuous and upright person into a murderer… but it could make a murderer subconsciously target her. If she retaliated, the other people on the scene would subconsciously believe that Rin was the person who suddenly attacked.

It was extremely annoying.

After a long summary of trial and error, the best way to minimize the influence is to set a goal beforehand and avoid deviating from it regardless of the cost.

That was the reason that Rin didn’t entertain the desire to buy new clothes after getting soaking wet. That would be doing something unplanned and unprompted. It likely would’ve caused her to run into an entirely different incident that was more troublesome.

“Okay.” Rin sighed, clenching her hand on the bottom of her wet shirt.

Despite the knowledge that it would cause trouble, Rin decided to agree to change the location.

Anyway, the message had already been passed on. The damage was minimal even if the supernatural ‘bad luck’ caused trouble. Since there was little harm, Rin wanted to see the limitations of this ‘bad luck’.

Leaving the towel behind, they left the restaurant and the two sisters began the walk to Kara’s home. The journey remained peaceful and they arrived without encountering an incident causing Rin to feel suspicious.

This suspicion wasn’t without reason.

Another rule that Rin had noticed while dealing with this supernatural ‘bad luck’ is that the longer the time between incidents the more severe and dangerous the incidents tend to be.

Although it was possible that the supernatural stopped targeting her after passing the message on to Kara, Rin somehow doubted that was the case due to the soup dropped onto her by the fox girl waitress.

Regardless, Kara’s home was a relatively calm section of the city.

There weren’t many people around on the street, so abnormality should be noticed promptly.

Rin’s inheritance provided her with an enhanced sense of smell and hearing. She could detect the slightest noise and smells. Ironically, that feature of the inheritance caused Rin a lot of trouble in the residential zone to the point of having to actively ignore those senses.

It made her feel like she was blind within the city.

Rin had never liked cities to begin with, too many people and potential dangers hiding within a crowd.

Enhanced senses only made the situation worse. There were too many people to worry about and it was impossible to focus on a single individual and tell whether they were hostile. The dangers of the city had been easily proven by this supernatural ‘bad luck’.

The city contained countless smells and background noise, which made it impossible to detect a bucket of water thrown out a window or a dagger thrown from the shadows.

Rin could only try to minimize the opportunities for others to cause her trouble.

Following Kara into her home, Rin was offered a change of clothing. She quickly swapped out of her wet clothing, dried herself with a provide towel, and changed into the new clothing. Although the clothing was a bit small and uncomfortable, it was better than wearing wet clothing.

Then Rin proceed to talk in more in-depth about the situation.

She explaining almost everything to her sister.

However... Rin kept the true nature of her ability silent and simply stated that she knew portions of the future. This wasn’t out a concern of her leaking it or anything. Rin knew that her sister would overreact if she knew the truth. Kara would tell Rin to ignore her future death and that she should just continue on with her life without torturing herself and other nonsense.

Rin disliked dealing with that depressed side of her sister, and simply hid some key information on her power to avoid it.

Whilst they talked about the future and other problems, a web of traps was forming in the background. Rin had been correct in the assumption that the supernatural ‘bad luck’ hadn’t given up.

Fate wasn’t so easily broken.

There were always other possibilities to reach the final fated outcome…

The situation could turn desperate enough that Kara would utilize her foresight despite the warning. She could be forced to utilize her ability to save a comrade. Kara could miraculously forget about the warning.

These possibilities weren’t likely under normal circumstances… but the gears of fate could to turn these unlikely possibilities into almost certain events.

Under prompting of a particularly ambitious individual, the various criminal guilds in the residential zone gathered together in an attempt to overthrow the current monopoly of the major guilds.

It should be noted that although they were considered criminal guilds, most of the guilds weren’t composed of evil people. They were mainly composed of people that had been unwilling to accept the dominion of other stricter guilds and had been causing trouble in the residential zone because they weren’t allowed to leave.

The gear of fate began to turn and they collectedly agreed to break the current monopoly by targeting the leaders. Although everyone had different opinions on how to go about this, it was eventually decided that every individual guild would be assigned to deal a particular guild leader in the manner they saw fit.

Kidnapping, assassination, brainwashing... it didn't matter as long as they were taken care of.

Kara’s well-known prophecy was promptly pointed out in the meeting and she was immediately put as a priority target. The entire plan relies on the element of surprise. If the guild leaders were prepared and warned by Kara, they had little chance of success.

This reasoning was used and they decided to attempt to get rid of Kara immediately. To those attempt to subvert the current leadership, the ability of foresight was akin to a knife hanging over their head.

Nobody could be sure of the extent of her abilities, or whether they would be able to predict this rebellion.

Normal circumstances dictated that this was a risky plan to implement. Rebellion was rebellion after all. The price of failure was almost certainly death.

That alone made it unlikely for the criminal groups to get together and cause trouble.

However… those having moderate beliefs or against this type of rebellion within these criminal guilds had been systematically eliminated for various criminal actions under the guidance of fate over the past months.

Rin’s interference had been the cause of death for a good portion of them (even if she didn’t kill them personally).

The people within the criminal guilds weren’t stupid.

When people standing up to protest against the rebellion plan begin to disappear one by one, anyone with a brain can understand they were getting targeted. Although those within the criminal guilds assumed that it was an ambitious person targeting them and not the mechanisms of fate, the end result was the same.

At the meeting of the various criminal guilds, the plan to rebel was swiftly implemented without anyone daring to oppose it.

After all, nobody had managed to discover who were targeting the moderates against the rebellion plan.

Under those circumstances, the enemy was in the dark and those standing up against the rebellion plan were in the light.

When someone finally jumped up and decided to implement the rebellion, the criminal guilds were all forced to agree. Opposing the rebellion plan at this junction was only putting a target on your back.

Yes, rebellion had a high chance of death if it failed… but opposing the rebellion plan had a similarly high risk of death, so that risk-benefit calculation changed.

Why not support the rebellion?

Anyway, they would be able to develop unhindered if they succeeded. People always calculated what to do with an emphasis on risk-benefit.

Although there weren’t more benefits, there was a high risk involved in individually opposing it. Even if someone wanted to resist the plan, the best way would be to temporarily accept it during the meeting and gather a large of group of people to opposing the rebellion afterward.

-But fate didn’t particularly care about what happened afterward.

All that was important was that Kara had been made a priority target.

In a short time, people wouldn’t be able to organize to oppose the rebellion leader’s plans. This time gap could be used to create further troubles.

This meant that whilst Rin and Kara chatted, multiple elites with powerful abilities were gathering. A trap was slowly being weaved in an attempt to deal with them.

Under normal circumstances, Kara regularly divined the future of her guild and other people to be aware of such changes…

However, Rin had asked to avoid using her foresight.

Out of trust of her sister, Kara would obviously agree and that meant they had no idea that she was being targeted by a newly formed rebellion.
