The situation in the residential zone remained quiet and calm.  For approximately thirty minutes, the two sisters talked about various topics from Rin’s experience in Hell Difficulty to the supernatural 'bad luck' that had been afflicting her recently.

A storm was brewing... and this was the subtle calm beforehand.

The rebellion's leader organized a large team to break into Kara’s house. Their instructions were relatively simple. If Kara was inside, they were to attack immediately and attempt to kill or capture her. Otherwise, they would set up an ambush in that location and await her return.

Ignore other targets, unless necessary.

With those orders, the twenty people moved on large scale toward the home.

Kara’s house was not on a normally busy street. Instead it was hidden in a mostly unpopulated region of the residential zone and wouldn’t be traveled by large groups of people.

The noise of twenty people running in their direction immediately alarmed Rin.

“A large group of people incoming from the east.” Rin notified her sister with her wolf-ears perked upright to listen more carefully.

After a period of thought, Kara hypothesized. “Maybe, it’s some guild’s patrol?”

“They are coming straight for us.” Rin shook her head.

After dealing with this supernatural 'bad luck' for months, Rin knew there was no possibility of their arrival being coincidence.

The large group was also abnormally quiet, moving without talking to one another. They were attempting to hide their existence while moving at a high speed.

A normal guild dedicated to patrolling the streets would chat as they walked and only superficially be looking around.

“Who dares to be so bold?” Kara frowned with displeasure. “I’m the leader of a guild.”

Rin shook her head, “Does it matter? I’ll deal with them.”

“I’ll help.” Kara offered, prepared to grab her weapon.

“No.” Rin shook her head.

They could be easily dealt with.

The problem was the slaughtering rain afterward that would punish anyone that killed more than ten people.

While Rin had the umbrella of lies to allow her to bypass the restrictions on killing in the residential zone, Kara would be in danger if she wasn't careful. It was better for her to stay behind.

Rin had initially only taken the umbrella of lies as a precaution to let her scare away people from bothering her sister. The restriction on the number of people killable within an allotted timeframe was too annoying under normal circumstances.

This restriction was especially idiotic when Rin was constantly running into trouble from random morons. Rin had triggered the slaughtering rain multiple times by accident whilst dealing with random morons that attacked her.

“Be careful.” Kara understood that there was no possibility of Rin accepting her help and gave up.

“This will not take long.” Rin left the room and went to intercept the group.

The group assembled to deal with Kara had little idea of the enemy heading their way. They were focused on completing their task and prepared to ambush Kara at any time.

Before the group could get close, they were intercepted by Rin on the street… but they ignored her and tried to run past.

Obviously, Rin wasn’t the target of this operation and they had no idea that Rin had any relation to Kara.

Watching the group run past her and completely ignore her existence, Rin fell into confusion but quickly realized there was a possibility they were after Kara.

“Stop! Explain your purpose.” Rin raised her sword at the group that was running away.

Rin didn’t want to kill the innocent without reason, and wanted to be confident that they were enemies. If they refused to stop or failed to properly explain, she could assume they were enemies and deal with them according.

None of the group stopped.

A man in the group near the back of the group raised their right hand toward Rin, lightning shot out of his hand and directly attacked Rin.

Rin blocked the electrical attack with her sword.

The man continued running after seeing her block the attack and nobody else in the group paused to deal with her, clearly none of them intended to fight her.

They were enemies.

Despite realizing this, there was little possibility of catching up and killing them using normal methods. She had neglected hunting powerful creatures and devouring them to increase her basic stats in this timeline.

There would be no way to deal with the entire group before they arrived at Kara’s location without special methods.

-But Rin was not a person without special methods.

Her archery skill’s alone would likely be enough to deal with the majority of them… however there was no guarantee that some wouldn’t escape and continue onward to attack Kara.

In light of that, Rin utilized the laws of time.

The…

entire…

world…

slowed…

to…

a…

crawl…

The rebels running toward Kara’s location paused in impossible positions, feet frozen midair in a manner unrealistic for a stationary object. Noises from the outside world slowly disappeared until only silence remained.

The entire world had frozen.

Everything had completely stopped like a video that had been paused.

In this silent world that everything had frozen, a singular person began to move.

Rin began to move and stepped forward, her footsteps echoing loudly throughout this paused world. Rin lowering her weapon as she moved toward the nearest enemy.

Moving her weapon to the nearest person’s neck, Rin cut through it without a second thought. Blood lined her blade, but beyond that no blood poured out of the person’s slit neck.

… and Rin slowly moved onward to the next person.

There was no suspense as the bodies of the people nearby were afflicted with fatal wounds. There was no opportunity for them to fight back or retaliate. They were simply inflicted fatal wounds before they realized it.

No chance to save themselves.

No chance to run away.

No chance to apologize or explain.

The various rebels were simply inflicted fatal injuries for ignoring and attacking Rin.

Then… the world jolted by to normal.

Time passed freely and the regular noises of the city returned.

Blood poured out of the fatal wounds on the rebels and they all collapsed to the floor in the same instant. As they died, none understood what happened and why they’d suddenly been afflicted with fatal injuries.

Utilizing the laws of time in this manner wasn’t easy or without burden, Rin breathed deeply as her body shook slightly from mild pain. Without waiting another moment, she pulled out the umbrella of lies from her bag as unnatural rain clouds appeared.

The acidic rain would soon destroy the bodies and land onto her umbrella. As the acidic rain that flowed through most objects was blocked by the umbrella, Rin relaxed and let her body rest.

This manifestation of the laws of time was no different from the manner of ruining random fruit earlier. That was simply the easiest example to show and understand.

The most easily understood manner of thinking about it was that fruit had actually experienced accelerated time until it had reached the end of its life-cycle. From an outside perspective it was ruined in seconds, but in actually the fruit had gone through months of time if not years in those few seconds.

Rin’s first thought upon seeing the fruit decay in that manner had been to use this to decay enemies into nothingness with the laws of time, but that failed miserably.

She quickly learned that idea was horrifically mistaken.

Using this law of time upon an enemy in combat was essentially giving them a buff.

People and living creatures could still move and act as normal under the accelerated time…  except that the enemy has no time to react.

The fruit was an inanimate object, it simply decayed under the passage of time... but the first action an enemy with intelligence would take under that situation is killing the opponent.

Fortunately, Rin had utilized the laws of time on a weak monster without much intelligence. When Rin was counter-attacked after utilizing this laws of time on the weak monster, the damage had been limited.

This inadvertently led to her discovering that she could use the acceleration of the laws of time on herself to deal with enemies. Although it would have a burden on the body and had to be used carefully, this created a powerful hole card that could change a desperate situation.

After waiting awhile until the acidic rain stopped, Rin returned to Kara’s home in the area

“How did it go? You look tired.” Kara noticed the fatigue on her face and quickly looked outside to confirm that nobody had followed her.

“I’m fine. They’re solved.” Rin sighed and sat down on a sofa placed in the living room.

“Do you know what guild they were from?” Kara quietly inquired, pacing back and forth in anger that someone had dared to send an ambush after her.

While Kara didn’t know the specific number of people that Rin had dealt with or their combat effectiveness, Kara did know her own combat effectiveness. Kara was nowhere near good enough to deal with a group of attackers.

If Rin had not been there, there likely would’ve been little she could do to save herself. Although her 'foresight' was useful ability, it was useless for an ambush that tested on the spot combat capabilities.

“They didn’t wear any guild markings or have chance to show any unique abilities. ” Rin shook her head, sleepiness showed on her face and she rested her head on the back of the sofa.

“Shame.” Kara clenched her fists. “I would’ve liked to report them and get revenge.”

“Suddenly losing twenty people is already plenty of vengeance.” Rin replied with a yawn. “They were likely induced by this 'bad luck' phenomenon. It’s unlikely that this will be the last group to launch an attack.”

“So there will likely be another attack?” Kara frowned at this news.

“Probably~” Rin yawned again before cuddling up against the side of the sofa, ready to go to sleep for awhile. “I’m going to nap for a bit.”

“Okay...” Kara nodded and stared out the window. “I’ll inform others and arrange an escort.”
