Through sheer overwhelming power and ability, Rin had forcefully suppressed the main assault force of the rebel guilds. In terms of skill or ability, none of them were much worse than the core members of the stronger guilds and their previous arrogance throughout the criminal organizations wasn’t unfounded.

Their skills and ability, combined with the fact that those who can defeat them should have already continued further into the frontier zones, meant that they could move almost unhindered throughout the residential zone.

Unfortunately, they ran into Rin whom was entirely capable of dealing with them on her own and could avoid the slaughtering rain that would lay waste to others that dared to kill rampantly.

They didn’t even have the chance to beg for mercy… Not that Rin would’ve been willing to let them live if she knew their goal. Rin killed them for simply suspecting they might plan to harm Kara and ignoring her was simply the proof she needed to confirm that. If she knew for certain that they were attempting to harm Kara, there would never be a possibility of mercy.

Although utilizing the laws of time to create an effect similar to time stop was useful, it was also burdensome on the body and caused her to be exhausted. If she used it for long periods on herself, she might directly be killed by the backlash. At the moment, the consequences were nothing more than being sore and sleepy but longer, more prolonged, exposure could cause more serious conditions including heart failure and brain death.

Whilst Rin slept, Kara returned to her guild to informed them of the situation. Rin had stepped forward to save her... but had she likely would be captured or killed without her assistance.

How could she be willing to endure such an attack on herself?

“Assemble all the guards, as soon as possible.” Kara ordered the woman at the reception desk.

“Of course.” The woman nodded and quickly left the room.

Soon, a group of approximately thirty to forty people had been lined up in the lobby of the King’s Prophet. They wore armor with the guild’s symbol on it and were ready for action.

The guards saluted politely to Kara and waited to hear the reason for their gathering.

“Everyone nearby and available has been assembled.” The reception woman whispered to Kara upon receiving news that another guard would be unable to make it.

“Good, thank you.” Kara moved in front of the guards and began to speak. “Nearly thirty minutes ago, an assault group of twenty people took the opportunity to launch an attack on myself.”

“What?”

“Who?”

“They dare?”

The guards around the room were furious at this news.

Most of the people whom joined Kara’s guild had their lives saved by her in the zones by virtue of her foresight. Although her combat capabilities were lower than most other guild leaders, Kara was indispensable to the operation of the guild and attacking her clearly meant they completely looked down on their entire guild.

“The assault group wore no guild markings and none of their abilities were recognized. If it weren’t for the help of a nearby powerhouse whom saved me, they likely would’ve succeeded.” Kara took the chance to stared at the guards throughout the room and sighed. “In all likelihood, the group that attempted this will launch another attack.”

“Bastards….”

The guards couldn’t believe their ears.

The residential zone wasn’t perfectly safe, but attacking the leader of a guild? Impossible. Even attacking the leader of a small guild is a complete provocation to the entire guild and would effectively forge unending hostility with the guild.

If a guild couldn’t even keep their leader safe, who would be willing to join? What right do they have to compete for resources and venture into the zones… What right do they have to survive?

The current situation of the residential zone was similar to a group of people swimming through a piranha infested waters. If a single drop of blood is smelled, the entire guild would be devoured by the perceived weakness. The perception of weakness was far deadlier than any amount of actual weakness.

The situation of individual guilds in the residential zone was in a state of delicate balance. One domino in the wrong place could cause the entire board could collapse.

If this wasn’t the case, Kara wouldn’t have insisted on staying in the residential zone for this long.

“Everyone with investigation abilities should head to my right. Everyone else, arrange yourself in your normal teams.” Kara gestured for the guard to move.

The standard formation in their guild was teams with five individuals and the guards already had prearranged teams that they worked well together with. Eight groups appeared with several missing members in them. The sudden rally and assembly had result in several groups not having their entire team available. Additionally, those with investigation-type abilities had been asked to move into a separate area further reducing their team’s numbers.

After the guards had arranged themselves into individual teams, Kara gestures to the groups. “All groups on my right will be responsible for protecting the investigative team as they investigate those responsible and ensuring their safety.”

Kara gazed around the room at the various guard and stated. “The rest will be responsible for guarding the guild and myself during this period.”

At the same time, Kara picked several members from the group with investigative abilities and had them assigned to the groups that would protect herself and the guild.

The guards saluted in acknowledgement of the orders and began rearranging themselves. Everyone prepared for their respective tasks.

A singular guard in the group assigned to protect her momentarily flashed murderous intent toward Kara. The murderous intent quickly disappeared though, and the guard lowered their head in silence. Whilst the rebellion had sent their main force to Kara’s house, other plans had also been implemented to ensure that she would be dealt with. They had no idea of the limitations of Kara’s foresight and could only implement as many plans as possible.

The rebellion leader, in addition to ordering his men to camp at her house, also hired a professional assassin.

In particular, they had hired an assassin known for his stealth and cunning.

Whilst Tobias would recognize him shapeshifting moron, but the underworld community called him another name… Silent Death.

This nickname was earned because those targeted by him would show up dead without putting up a fight. Silent Death almost exclusively targeted those with unique or powerful abilities ignoring their level of strength. Exclusively targeting those with powerful or unique abilities had earned him a frightening reputation.

Most of the underworld assassins refused to target those within powerful abilities, regardless of the rewards given.

Nobody with powerful abilities was easy to kill… most lived within protected areas of their respective guilds and if they were caught, the assassins would suffer endless retaliation.

The rewards of accomplishing the feat simply weren’t worth the risk that they would entail.

Due his ability to steal the ability of those that were killed by him, the shapeshifter was more than willing to take risk.

Anyway, he could easily disappear into the crowd and changed his face. Wanting to hunt him down after escaping was almost impossible.

Additionally, most of those in the high-positions of the guilds viewed assassins as a simple tools. Those guild that suffered from assassinations would usually choose to retaliate against those who issued the bounty instead of the assassins themselves.

The shapeshifter had been greedy for Kara’s foresight ability for awhile, but had been unwilling to aggravate the King’s Prophet guild without a contract to kill her. Without a contract, it would be considered his independent action.

Assassins are tools to be used.

Getting caught taking independent action would ruin his immunity and cut off all his contacts. Violating the rules meant that an assassin would be unable to gain work in the future even if they survived the retaliation.

For ordinary people, nobody would bother to investigate too deeply and he would likely get away with the violation.

Unfortunately, the attention gathered from the sudden death of a guild leader would be extremely high. Divination abilities would certainly be used and expose his independent action.

That forced him to hold back… waiting until he had the opportunity.

When a contract was of to kill Kara, the shapeshifter was ecstatic and accepted it immediately.

Of course, that didn’t mean that he was reckless and had thrown caution to the wind... Only when there was a perfect opportunity would he strike.

Until then, the assassin would wait patiently.

Kara had no idea about the existence of the assassin within her group of guards. She was anxious about leaving her sister alone for long period of time and returned to her house without any thought further on the matter.

The guards were arranged in their respective teams around the perimeter and ready to respond to any threat that might appear.

Although there was an assassin mixed into her guards, the rebellion leader certainly wouldn’t leave everything in the hands of a contract assassin that had little responsibility to work for him beyond their reputation and the treasures promised for success.

No, it was necessary to have a backup plan and he was organizing another assault force.

Although the leader of the rebellion hadn’t received news that the main force behind Kara’s assassination had been wiped out, there were other targets after Kara was dead. Organizing a second, stronger assault team was an obvious course of action.

Silent dangers were building in the background.

The initial force that Rin dealt with was only a hurriedly organized group to act rapidly and attempted to use surprise to their advantage. It was created with the intention to deal with Kara before she was aware of the danger.

Although it was a hastily created force, the people in the assault group weren’t weaklings.

When the rebellion realized their initial force had been completely wiped out, they would realize there were unforeseen variables and certainly change their strategy to lurk in the shadows waiting for an opportunity to deal with Kara.

If Kara hadn’t been prepared for their arrival and ambushed the team, how could all of them been killed in the assault? It should be noted that there were several people in the group with strong abilities to escape. The only way to kill them was to be well-prepared or having overwhelming power.

The complete destruction of the initial group would only prove in their minds that Kara’s foresight ability was more powerful than expected and solidify their intention to kill her.

Of course, their intention to kill her would only grow stronger regardless.

If those people had managed to escape, it would be a display of weakness and prove their opponent wasn’t as strong as expected. In an ambush situation, having some people able to escape would only prove they weren’t unbeatable.

Regardless of the result, their intention to kill Kara would only grow stronger.

The only peaceful option of dissuading them would be to show overwhelming force that they could never hope to compete with.

Beyond that, no method would dissuade them. This was partly because they were in open rebellion. If they failed, the guilds would clean up the leaders of the rebellion and never give them a chance to survive.

Failure meant death, so any retaliation would only solidify their killing intent and cause them to behave more carefully.
