Orochimaru was right about Hiruzen's sentimentality being harmful to Konoha. Almost all of its problems came from Danzo, who was able to do so only because Hiruzen was too sentimental to stand in his way or end him.
Of course you can nothing states that the hokage has to die for another to take his place. He can retire due to serious injuries or go hunt his disciple while a new hokage takes his place.
Honestly why even bother him trying to help when any of the people he wants to save dies. Speaking of *help*:he easily could of warned them when he came back to the arena.
If this is the trend of the story it will really will be dull.

Lowkey love how he tries his best to save people but it actually doesn't all work out his way. Don't think I've ever seen a story where the MC has to actively save characters with his life on the line.
Hiruzen in the after life be like: "Pulls out a crystal ball" welp it's time to inspect the new shinobis.
