Hey guys, just letting you all know that this story has NOT been dropped.
If you guys didn’t know, I never write chapters in advance. The day I finish writing a chapter is the day I post it. I generally know what direction I want to story to go in and let my hands do the magic.
With that being said, I never thought that writing ahead (something most authors do with ease) would be so difficult me. I tried it out and had chapters done but upon review later, I didn’t want the story to travel in that direction so I changed it which led to me changing the others I had written and that eventually led to me scrapping everything.
I really only have myself to blame for such poor planning skills. I’m kind of pissed at myself too since I literally told you guys that I was increasing the release frequency then proceeded to go on a month long break trying to figure out what I want to do with no form of updates whatsoever and for that, I’m sorry. I’m sorry for being such an unreliable author when you guys have shown me nothing but support since the first chapter. I’m trying to be better and I Will.
The good news is that after long time of going over everything thing I had in mind, I think I know how I want to go about it. If everything goes right, there should be a chapter sooner than later.
Once again, I’m sorry and thank you for sticking with me.
As an author who writes ahead, let me tell you, it is NOT easy for any of us. It is extremely high stress stuff for me, and I've heard similar from other authors as well.
That said, in regards to your particular issues, well... On the one hand, I hate to say it, but I kinda saw this coming way back in chapter 4. It's an eye-catching premise, but I wasn't seeing any strong signs of any direction for the story. You need to have at least some vague idea of where you want the story to be 10 or so chapters from now, and then you try to write toward that goal. I was seeing no signs that you were trying to write toward anything.
All that said, once you can find yourself some direction, my advice would be to keep in mind that a lot of people use web novels as a rough draft (my self included.) That is to say, the common advice to writers is that nobody sits down and makes a work of perfection when they write. It's a long process of multiple edits. Well, web novels is a medium where you can ignore that advice and just go mind to page and post it without heavy edits (except maybe some spelling and grammar.)
Honestly, the only reason my story doesn't look anywhere close to as rough as the majority is just because I'm well practiced. I'm frankly astounded I even do as well as I do considering the complete lack of serious editing. Sometimes that's just what you have to do in order to get the story out for people.
Now, for an inspirational story. This thing of just posting your first draft is not all that uncommon in the professional world. It's this mentality that gave us the Dragon Ball Z's android saga, and why it turned out the way it did. Basically, Akira Toriyama got criticzed for making the androids an old man and a fatso. So, with some clever writing, he changed them to a couple of teens. Then, the editors didn't like that either, so he made the villain a bug-man (cell.) Then, the editors thought he looked too alien, so he had cell absorb the androids and gain more of a human appearance. Despite the constant jumping around, some clever writing techniques and a good sense of narrative combined with the good will and hype people were giving it was enough to make it work regardless of the constant mid-way change of plan.
So, yeah, don't get too discouraged and don't get obsessed with it being perfect before you release it. All you really need is some better planning in order to give your story direction.
I'm just happy to read more chapters of your story, so thank you for telling us
I looking forward for the chapter then....
you should not re-read what you previously wrote as it will always seems unsatisfactory that way, even godly author will feel the same re-reading their past book :/ but it's great to know you don't plan on dropping the novel since it was quite good ^^
You have to re-read it at some point right?! I mean you have to resolve typos and correct plot holes
@drakensji Hmm i guess i both agree and disagree you can have someone else read it for you and correct typos that way and give an opinion of the chapter while you're at it :p but anyway i mean that no matter how much time and effort you put into it, writing is a work of passion , so when you go back to it you will have lost the state of mind you had when you wrote it and you will probably feel it inadequate even tho it might still be pretty good for any other reader.
Concerning typos and stuff you should check for it immediatly after writing the chapter so as to not lose the focus you had while writing. Of course this are just my 2cents i'm by no mean an expert but i've read a large amount of books and webnovels and dabled in writing in my youth and i think one of the worst thing an artist can do is think too deeply about his work. There has been quite a few author that trapped themselves by doing this thinking "if it's not perfect it's not worth it" but that simply isn't true , i would even argue that flaws are often the most memorable part of any work. Readers don't want a "perfect" book they want the book you wrote with your heart and guts.
To be honest a lot of books considered "Masterpieces" or "Perfect" are more often than not very boring to read because the author lost himself in details and descriptions that no one really care about , what's important is that the narative is flowing and enjoyable , especially in a webnovel format like this one.
To be honest i think the idea for this story is really interesting , exploring what it means to grow up in both a good or bad environement, is it really your family and living environment that shape you or is there more to it? What does it mean to grow up and what really is "Family" .
Anyway whether you write several chapter in advance or just go with the flow i think you should not lose sight that just like people , a story will have its flaws and it is perfectly fine that way ^^
Thanks for the answer anyway and i hope to see more of your work soon ;)
I'm also still new (started a few weeks ago) and just scrapped everything, again. I released some chapters but after rereading them I just thought: WTF is this s*ht? It was fine when I first released them, but somewhere along the line I started getting some really high expectations...
Now I'm still stuck on world building / "discovering" my world...
In case you'd like to listen to someone who already successfully published books (got me some things to think about):
