"Oh?" Yuchi Bing Xia raised his slender brows. "I thought you two were getting along fine." Yes, he really had not expected this response. At the very least, not with this explanation.

It was one thing to say that he didn’t think Qiguan Cheng Da was the right person to go to the Hei Dian Sect. After all, he knew him better. Maybe he felt that his friend’s strengths lay somewhere else and not in going undercover. This wasn’t something that everybody was able to do. But to give his character such a poor evaluation? It made him question whether Yu Jin actually considered this person his friend.

Unfortunately, he merely got a glance in return that said as much as the murmur earlier.

Yuchi Bing Xia felt as if his chest was stuffy. This boy! Did he really have to be like this? Couldn’t he understand what he wanted to know? He took another sip of his tea and tried to swallow the negative feeling at the same time. He had to stay calm. He couldn’t forget that Yu Jin had lived through some bad experiences. Naturally, he wasn’t the type of person that opened up easily. He could only try to slowly get to the bottom of this.

"You’ve been going to the outer sect quite often."

"Mn."

"So that wasn’t to meet up with him?"

Leng Jin Yu lowered his gaze. Meet up with that person … Well, he had not rejected Qiguan Cheng Da when he came to spend time with him. But that was because he knew that the Fate’s Scribe wanted to use him for some of the crown prince’s trial.

If this was up to him … he really didn’t want to associate with a person like this. Qiguan Cheng Da was the kind of 'friend' that would make it necessary to always watch your back. He had seen this kind of thing too often when he was still cultivating. He didn’t need to suffer through the same thing after his ascension. Well, not that Qiguan Cheng Da would be able to hurt him.

Unfortunately, he couldn’t tell Sect Master Yuchi anything. Instead, he could only deflect. "The talisman forging pagoda is quite nice."

Yuchi Bing Xia’s lips twitched. Fine, forget it if you don’t want to talk about it. In any case, right now, it was more important to find somebody suitable for the task of being a spy in the demonic faction. "Then what makes you question Qiguan Cheng Da so?"

"He is vain and seeks his own profit. I’m afraid … if the demonic faction offered him enough benefits, he might betray us." Leng Jin Yu slowly drew his brows closer together to give the impression of actual worry. "I don’t know if Master has heard about that stroke of luck he had on our previous mission? I doubt it is what he said."

"Oh? How come?"

"Turning minor spirit veins into a heavenly ice spirit vein … there aren’t many things that would allow one to do so. And none of them can easily be encountered outside. A ready-made pill … it would require some heavenly luck to find such a thing and it would be almost impossible to do so at the place of a newly-founded demonic sect that otherwise only has some low-level pills and herbs.

"That does beg the question of how Qiguan Cheng Da could suddenly happen to find an Amethyst Lightning Pill in exactly such a place. Thinking about it, it seems more likely that he had that stroke of luck a lot earlier."

"You think …?"

"About a year ago, we spoke about Grandmaster Zhangsun’s disciple. I surmised that considering the vastly different status of him and that disciple from the outer sect he would try to change that boy’s aptitude. My guess was that he would try to get his hands on precisely such an Amethyst Lightning Pill."

"And you think he really did so and that pill somehow ended up with Qiguan Cheng Da?"

Leng Jin Yu nodded. "Naturally, I can’t say for sure. But I think it likely to be the case." In fact, he knew that this was the truth. In any case, others had surmised the same so he didn’t feel that he was going too far by saying all this. He was merely warning Yuchi Bing Xia not to put his trust in the wrong person. This should be alright since it was his own appearance that had caused Yuchi Bing Xia to take an interest in Qiguan Cheng Da.

"I don’t think Grandmaster Zhangsun’s disciple would be this easily duped."

Leng Jin Yu just nodded again. Whether he agreed or not …

Yuchi Bing Xia sighed. "Then, who would you deem a suitable candidate for this task?"

The corners of Leng Jin Yu’s mouth slightly lifted. The Sect Master was really making his actual task too easy this time. "Zhong Jing Yi."

Yuchi Bing Xia tilted his head. He had no idea who that person was.

Leng Jin Yu took one glance at his face and realized what was happening. This opportunity was too valuable to let it go by so he explained. "The lover of Grandmaster Zhangsun’s disciple. Just like Qiguan Cheng Da, he isn’t known by many people. In fact, there might be even fewer people that know about him. Moreover, I think he has the qualities to fulfill this task without wavering in his loyalty. And finally … there is still the problem of their status.

"To marry the Grandmaster’s disciple, he should be at least an inner sect disciple. Last year when those two left the sect he hadn’t even managed to attain the seed stage. When I encountered him outside some months later he had hardly started cultivating although there was slight progress but he was also disrupted by the accident the Grandmaster’s disciple was in. Now that that is cleared up, it’s only a question of time for him to advance.

"If we disregard the connection to Grandmaster Zhangsun’s disciple though, then he would just be a slightly more talented disciple with full spirit veins. That isn’t someone the sect would raise to the inner sect. So if it is done regardless, it might raise some concerns."

Yuchi Bing Xia nodded slowly. "But it would be different if he attained merit by exposing the plans of the demonic faction." That was indeed true. Mn, as expected of his youngest disciple. He really was smart. A worthy successor. "You’re right. He is indeed a good option." He pondered for a moment longer but couldn’t find any problems. "Alright. You can go back to cultivating. I will take care of it."

Leng Jin Yu stood up, bowed once more, and left without another word.

Yuchi Bing Xia sighed. "I’d really like to know what that boy is thinking. Well, whatever, I’ll go and see Grandmaster Zhangsun about this issue first." He stood up as well and made his way over to the Grandmaster’s palace to discuss his plan. They needed to settle this as soon as possible.
