While Shen Lei was deep in his thoughts and Mei Chao Bing and Yun Bei Fen continued to practice earnestly, Elder Baili was already on his way to Elder Xing to discuss how to proceed now that they had gotten the Sect Master’s response.

Walking into the room, he waved the letter before he sat down with a satisfied sigh. "Ah, there is still justice in this world! Look at this!"

He threw the letter over to him and Elder Xing barely caught it, giving him a strange look. "That sounds as if Sect Master Zhang didn’t joke around for once." Unfolding the letter, he read over it and then raised his brows. "He is actually ordering all of them to come back?"

He really hadn’t expected that. But, well, the longer they had been here, the more it had turned out that this mission was really serious. Most likely, even their always joking Sect Master wasn’t willing to take any chances. "Well, in that case, it seems we just need to consider how to send them back." He folded the letter back up and turned to look at Elder Baili. "We could potentially send Shen Lei with them but maybe that would be too much. In any case, while they have done something wrong, they are still disciples of our sect. We should probably treat them with a little more curtsy even if they don’t deserve it."

Elder Baili gave a hum but furrowed his brows. "The question is: Do you trust them not to try something else?"

Elder Xing gave a wry smile in response to that and handed the letter back to him before he leaned back. "I currently don’t trust Yang Wu Huang even a bit. What he has done has gone much too far. That is something that definitely needs to be addressed further in the future." He thought for a moment and then shook his head. "I know that. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have wanted to bring this up with the Sect Master in the first place.

"Right now though … this matter still isn’t known to everyone. The disciples that were in his group certainly know and they might complain to the others but not everyone in the border region is aware of this. If we sent Shen Lei back with them, that might change. It might even change back at the Teng Yong Sect. With Yang Wu Huang’s personality, he might fault Shen Lei for the situation he’ll be in and carry a grudge. And since he already carries one against Mei Chao Bing, I’m not sure if putting Shen Lei on that list as well is such a good idea."

Elder Baili sighed at that. "It isn’t that I want to make trouble for Shen Lei but what am I supposed to do? Among the disciples that are stronger than Yang Wu Huang, there are currently only Shen Lei, Mei Chao Bing, and Yu Min here.

"Mei Chao Bing isn’t that much stronger so he would have trouble winning against all three of them together. And anyway, the grudge between those three and him is already so big that I don’t think it would be a good idea to add onto that either.

"Yu Min might not be a bad choice but his Master and Yang Wu Huang’s Master studied under the same Master together. It would put him in a more than awkward situation to have to be the one to head this escort mission.

"So there is really only Shen Lei if we can’t trust that those three will go back alone without trouble. And to be honest, I don’t. After everything they’ve done so far, I am certain that they will try something else. If they didn’t have that in them, then that matter at the array never would have happened. Kui Min never would have been captured by the demonic practitioners. Those disciples wouldn’t have died. All of that was clearly because those three had something planned. I’m sure of that even if we can’t prove it."

Elder Xing nodded and furrowed his brows. "I do agree with all of that. I’m just worried about Shen Lei but I guess we will have to wrong him. In any case, he is already a nascent soul-stage cultivator. He should be able to take whatever they come up with."

Elder Baili nodded as well. "That’s what I was thinking. The difference between the core formation stage and the nascent soul stage is big enough that he will be able to deal with them even if the three of them team up against him. He might not get out of it completely without injuries but he can manage. And they also know that he can do it. So they shouldn’t dare to think of anything too outrageous."

"Well, it’s decided then. In any case, I bet Young Shen will be ecstatic that he has another chance to go back to the sect." He smiled and Elder Baili couldn’t help but laugh.

"Considering the Sect Master’s response, he certainly spent quite a bit of time at the sect just for the sake of his own happiness. Well, I won’t fault him. Since he got the chance, he might as well use it. As long as he doesn’t go overboard, I wouldn’t mind. This time, if he does it again, I’ll also have to turn a blind eye. In any case, it’s my own disciple he is going to visit. How could I bear to let Luo Lin suffer if he gets the chance to see his lover at least for a short moment?"

Elder Xing nodded and then motioned to the door. "When do we want to tell them?"

Elder Baili’s expression became a little complicated at that question. "They will probably try to argue. I think it would be best if we called all of them here together and then have them leave as soon as possible. I’d like to get rid of this problem sooner rather than later."

"Yes, that gives them less time to plan anything. How about waiting until tomorrow morning and then calling them over before we send off the other disciples? That way, they wouldn’t dare to make as much of a fuss. Otherwise, the others would notice."

Elder Baili’s lips curled up and he nodded. "Not a bad idea! Then it’s decided. We’ll wait until tomorrow morning." Having said so, he got up and picked up the letter Sect Master Zhang had sent. "I’ll take this back for now. Let’s hope we don’t need this to convince them tomorrow. I wouldn’t like to add even more problems to the list of things they have done."

With that, he turned around and left but he still couldn’t help but feel a bit worried about the next day. Dealing with those three … it shouldn’t have been a problem but it sure felt like it. The worst thing about it was that since he couldn’t trust them and didn’t know how far they were willing to go, it was unpredictable what would happen in the future. In any case, after they were back at the Teng Yong Sect, that would be a problem for somebody else to worry about. He was looking forward to that time.
