Tears rolled Luo Lin’s cheeks when he heard that. He had done everything he could to save Shen Lei. And now, this kind of logistical problem would kill him. How could he be reconciled with that?

Mei Chao Bing furrowed his brows, not happy with that either. The only alternative they had was to go back to the Teng Yong Sect and ask for more resources. But even for somebody at the nascent soul stage, it would take about two hours to get there and another two to get back. And he really didn’t think that Shen Lei had those four hours. Even if they continued to treat him with what they had here, it might not be enough. At most, they could probably make him hold on for half the time.

He gritted his teeth and turned to Elder Baili. "I’m afraid we can’t make it back to the sect in time but we could make it to the caverns. Please, let me go there. Since most of the resources were given to the disciples there, they should have enough left to spare some for senior martial brother Shen. I will rush there and bring them back here. It’ll be tight but doable."

Elder Baili nodded faintly. "I’m afraid that’s the only thing we can do. You go then! Be careful though. I don’t want another person being injured like this."

Mei Chao Bing nodded and already wanted to leave when he stopped again in his tracks and turned back. "Elder Baili, would it be possible to return to the camp to get the remaining resources from there? I’m not sure if we should leave the two of them alone considering that the flare was shot up not too far away but this would give me a bit more time. And right now, every minute counts." In fact, he didn’t even want to argue here but they had to come up with a good plan first.

Elder Baili clicked his tongue. "Well, the way back to the camp isn’t that long. I’ll figure something out. Don’t worry. You go first and get the resources from Zhi Guan."

Mei Chao Bing nodded and then didn’t waste another second before he rushed off at full speed, making his way toward the array that would bring him back to the caverns.

As for Elder Baili, he turned his third disciple, his gaze complicated. Luo Lin was … well, between his four disciples, Luo Lin couldn’t be called the strongest. When it came to being outside and having to fight with the demonic practitioners — especially while having to protect Shen Lei — he didn’t think his chances of winning would be any higher than Yun Bei Fen’s. To leave him here alone … he had a hard time doing so. Still, he knew that Mei Chao Bing was right. They needed every minute they could get.

He took a deep breath and then sorted through the things from his bag again. "I will leave a couple of talismans here to protect you a little. I will be back as soon as possible. Try to hold on. If you are attacked …" His brows furrowed and he wasn’t sure what to say. Tell him to flee? But looking at Luo Lin’s expression, his disciple would never do that. In the end, he just sighed, patted his shoulder, and handed him a couple of things that he could use.

Luo Lin nodded but he wasn’t too worried about the demonic practitioners. In any case, they were a little further away from the place where he had lit the flare and there was also the headband that Yan Hong Min had given him. Even though the guy was really unreliable, he was still alright when it came to the things he invented. Most likely, he and Shen Lei would be safe for as long as they didn’t move from this spot.

"Alright, I’ll be back soon. Right, with what you’re doing right now … give it a bit of time before you apply something new. We need to stretch the time until Mei Chao Bing gets back. So don’t use everything at once. You won’t be able to heal him completely anyway. You will only be able to make sure that for the moment, Shen Lei can hold on."

Luo Lin nodded and then stopped with what he was doing while his Master already rushed off. Sitting there, he had nothing better to do but look at Shen Lei. Staring at those wounds, he realized what his Master meant after a while. The effect of the pill dust slowly wore off and he realized that while there had been a slight betterment in some places, the wounds continued to bleed. It seemed that he would really have to time this right or he would be the one dooming Shen Lei.

Luo Lin closed his eyes and took a deep breath before slowly exhaling. "I really hope Mei Chao Bing makes it back soon." He put a hand on top of Shen Lei’s head and caressed him gently. "If there is any kind of strength left in you, you have to make use of it now. Hold on. Just hold on for a bit longer. Just until my Master comes back and then until Mei Chao Bing is here as well. I’ll stay with you the whole time. I definitely won’t let anything happen to you until that moment." He leaned down again, kissing Shen Lei’s forehead again.

He wished that he could have done more for him but right now, his hands were tied. He went back to just staring at Shen Lei’s injuries, making sure to crush another pill and sprinkle the dust over the wound as soon as he saw that the condition seemed to worsen.

Over time, maybe he would be able to heal some spots. That would be great. Unfortunately, he didn’t have much hope there. No, right now, his best bet was really to just wait some time and hope that Mei Chao Bing would be able to bring some better resources back.
