Yun Bei Fen wanted to retort that there was no way that his senior martial brother Mei wasn’t a good person but he stopped himself with a look at his face. Obviously, his senior martial brother wasn’t in the mood to listen to that right now. He was really sad.

Yun Bei Fen watched him for a moment and then just hugged him. Anyway, he didn’t know what to say to make him feel better. He also didn’t know if there was anything he could do. Thinking about it now, he suddenly realized that his three senior martial brothers must have had it difficult while he was growing up. Whenever he was sad, they would be there to cheer him up. That really wasn’t a simple task.

Yun Bei Fen glanced up only to see Mei Chao Bing stare vacantly again. It seemed that today’s matter had really shocked him a lot.

Yun Bei Fen lightly tugged at the lapel of his robe. "Isn’t it all that Yang Wu Huang’s fault? I won’t trust him. I definitely won’t. Because I know he’s a bad person. But you’re different. You’re a really good person. I don’t think I’m being too much if I trust you. Anyway, if I can’t even trust you, then who could I trust? I’m pretty sure that everybody would be bad people then."

Mei Chao Bing sighed and ruffled Yun Bei Fen’s hair. "Maybe you’re right with that. Maybe it’s me who’s thinking too much. Anyway, trusting somebody is also good. At the moment you do, it makes you feel good. Maybe that is all that is important."

Yun Bei Fen furrowed his brows and grabbed Mei Chao Bing’s hand. "How could that be all? Why won’t you believe me?"

Mei Chao Bing hugged him to his chest, lightly brushing through his hair. "It’s not that I don’t want to believe you. It’s just that I’ve experienced what it means to be betrayed. I don’t want you to go through the same. I’m just … worried about you." And yes, maybe he was worrying too much. He might be able to betray the Teng Yong Sect but he wouldn’t be able to betray Yun Bei Fen. He just couldn’t imagine that. So why was he telling him these things? Wouldn’t he just make Yun Bei Fen worried along with him? Where was the use in that?

Even under the assumption that somebody else that was close to Yun Bei Fen would ever become a traitor, it wouldn’t help his little bunny at all. If Elder Baili or one of his senior martial brothers betrayed them, he would be sad and he would feel devastated. There was no way around that. Yun Bei Fen … he might be too emotional for his own good in that regard.

Although … Maybe that wasn’t bad. If you kept to yourself and never let anybody get close, then you wouldn’t get hurt. But you also wouldn’t feel any joy. Where was that kind of life worth it?

While Mei Chao Bing wondered if Yun Bei Fen’s way of seeing things might not have some merit as well, Yun Bei Fen was tightly furrowing his brows. Obviously, his senior martial brother Mei didn’t get at all what kind of a good person he was.

He pushed him away and looked at him as angrily as he could. "You’re not taking me seriously!"

Mei Chao Bing didn’t know how to react and could only look at him blankly. Even though he felt that Yun Bei Fen wasn’t calm enough when confronting things, it didn’t mean that he didn’t take him seriously. It was just that … he really felt that he might get hurt if he didn’t change his behavior at least a bit.

"You said you’re worried about me."

"And I am. I just … I don’t want you to go through the same things I did."

"So how are you not a good person? You’re worried about me. And you were also worried about the other disciples when you noticed that something was wrong. You told Kui Min and me immediately and asked her to contact the others. If not because of that, a lot of the others might not have made it. Actually, nobody might have made it. How can you do that and still question whether or not you’re a good person?" He looked down and sniffed. "I … I might not be as smart as you and I might not be as good as a cultivator as you are but I can see that you’re good. Yes, maybe I’m careless. Maybe I’ll first assume the best of somebody but that doesn’t mean that it’s not true. And if somebody wasn’t a good person, sooner or later, they’d show it. Don’t you think so?" He glanced at Mei Chao Bing only to find him still look at him blankly. Feeling that he hadn’t said enough yet to convince him, he pursed his lips and mumbled some more.

"What was that?" Mei Chao Bing leaned closer, feeling that he had heard something … astonishing just now.

"I … I said your Master wasn’t a nice person from the beginning!"

Mei Chao Bing’s brows rose up slowly. "How was my Master —"

"He was always glaring at people and scolding them. My Master was also complaining about him all the time. Even if nobody could have known that he was a traitor, he still wasn’t a nice person to begin with. So you don’t have to be afraid. If I meet somebody like that, I won’t fall for it. Anyway, you’re not like him. Not at all." Yun Bei Fen sniffed, his emotions too agitated to stay calm.

Mei Chao Bing just stared at him. His Master … had obviously not been a good person? Thinking back … that might be true. He had always been very strict, not allowing for even the smallest mistake. That probably wouldn’t make him a good person in many people’s eyes. But still … this missing compassion had also meant that he as his disciple was now strong enough to protect the person he loved. So maybe in his own way, his Master had still done something good?
