Rika sat in the hospital's waiting area sobbing. The novel she was reading wasn't helping. In the novel, the lead character accidentally smashed a plate into her friend’s head by accident, meaning for it to hit another girl that pissed her off. She was bated into attacking and her friend stepped in the way at the last second. It was a mess. Now she blames herself for everything and- It was too much.
Suddenly the hospital doors abruptly swung open and two young girls marched up to the counter. One had pink hair tied up in twintails and the other had pink hair flowing over her shoulders and halfway down her back.
"Where is Yatsu?"
Yatsu? Rika rubbed the water out of her eyes and stood up placing her book on the side table then walked toward them. Who are these girls?
"I don't care! We need to see him-"
Interrupting them, Rika placed her hand on the girl's shoulder. "Why do you need to see Yatsu?"
The girls spun around.
They look just like her, but smaller.
Rika stared at them for a second.
“Sasha needs to know if he’s okay,” the girl wearing twintails said. “Is Yatsu okay?” She asked, eyes angry but tears threatened to fall from them. The other girl already had tears falling from her cheek.
They were genuinely worried for Yatsu, not just for Sasha, they wanted to know if he was okay.
They are obviously related to Sasha, but why are they so worried for Yatsu if Sasha is the one that hurt him? Something isn’t right. Is mom making a mistake? Can I trust Sasha’s family?
“Follow me,” Rika said and started walking.
“Black and Purple hair…” the twintails girl said thoughtfully. “Your Rika, Yatsu’s older sister?”
She know my name? “I’m flattered Yatsu mentioned me. What are your names? Yatsu never mentioned you two.”
“We’re Sasha’s younger sisters. I’m Miya, this is Luna.”
“Twins,” Luna added softly. “We’ll be your sisters in law.”
Rika coughed and stopped walking. “What?”
Luna approached Rika and took her hand.
Miya stood behind her, rolling her eyes.
“Rika,” Luna said. “When Riku marries Yatsu, we’ll be sisters!”
Rika stared at Luna, then looked at Miya for help.
Miya shrugged. “It’s true.”
Luna tightened her hold on Rika’s hands.
Uh, what? “When they marry?”
Luna nodded. “Sasha loves Yatsu, s-she cried hard for a whole day,” Luna started tearing up again. “Sasha would marry Yatsu in a heartbeat for sure and that will make you our sister.”
Rika also started tearing up and hugged the poor girl. “Oh, Luna, I didn’t realize-” They listened to it, didn’t they? Sasha cried for Yatsu? What happened for Sasha to stab him… by accident?
Mom, you’ve acted in haste and Yatsu’s Sasha is going to pay for it. Yatsu is going to pay for it.
Rika brought them to a room with a window.
Inside the room lay Yatsu covered in a white blanket. A tube led from his left arm into a machine. Mom sat at his side. She imagined her tears had all dried up by now.
Miya covered her mouth with her hands.
“Is he okay?”
Rika sighed. “He hasn’t woken up but he’s alive and healthy. Nothing seriously wrong. It was a close call. Way too close,” Rika emphasized.
The twins both nodded in sync.
“I-I want to talk to him,” Miya stated and reached for the door but Rika stopped her.
“Only mom is allowed inside right now. When he wakes up you can,” Rika said. “I want to go in too but-”
Miya turned the handle and darted into the room before Rika could react.
“Yatsu!” Miya yelled and jumped onto the bed. “Wake up!”
“What in the name of!”
“Miya!” Oh, fuck!
“Miya! Stop!”
“Yatsu!” Miya shook him. “Sasha’s waiting for you! She needs you!” Miya yelled. “So wake up! Wake up! Wake up!”
“Mom!” Rika hurried into the room and helped grab Miya and pull her off of Yatsu. They dragged her out of the room while she screamed at Yatsu to wake up.
“Don’t leave Sasha alone! Wake up!” she cried.
Rika delivered Miya into Luna’s embrace and together they hugged her tight, mostly so she didn’t run away or toward Yatsu again.
“Who is she?” Mom growled.
Rika shivered. “A frightened younger sister, mom,” Rika responded. “She moved so fast I couldn’t stop her. Sorry.”
Mom stared at her for a minute, then walked back inside the room without another word as a nurse rushed over, too late, paused to assess what was happening and also entered the room.
After Miya stopped crying, they broke apart. Luna holding Miya’s hand tight.
“We’ll come back later,” Luna said. “After Yatsu wakes up.”
Rika nodded and didn’t know what else to say.
They left.
I wrote this part five times. I think I finally got what I wanted.
