A few days had gone by since the inner sect’s admission test. Mei Chao Bing was currently following his Master to prepare for his next mission, listening intently to his explanations. His Master felt that the admission test had been a waste of time. If he could, he would have let somebody else take care of the fights and already sent him on this mission long ago. Unfortunately, Sect Master Zhang had been intent that only Mei Chao Bing was qualified to test the outer sect disciples.
Mei Chao Bing had no idea if he should feel honored that the Sect Master felt that strongly about his abilities or whether he should regret like his Master. Going to fight with spiritual beasts was a much better challenge to him so he would benefit more from doing so.
Elder Feng suddenly stopped, his lips stretching into a thin line. Mei Chao Bing glanced up and then looked forward again, finally spotting the two figures approaching them.
A few steps away, Elder Baili also stopped, his lips twitching. "Elder Feng."
"Elder Baili."
The two of them fell quiet but neither of them turned to go either. Finally, Elder Baili glanced at Mei Chao Bing. "Taking your disciple to …" He waited for Elder Feng to explain but nothing happened. The other Elder stayed silent, resulting in an awkward pause. "Uh … go on a mission?"
"En." Elder Feng didn’t explain anything else but his gaze brushed the little boy next to Elder Baili. He snorted in disdain and then waved at Mei Chao Bing. "Let’s go. Somebody will need to dedicate all his time to teach that."
Mei Chao Bing looked at the little boy as well, his lips unwittingly curling into a smile. The child had stared at him with big, dark eyes before he scuttled behind his Master, hiding behind his leg. After a moment, he obviously couldn’t take that he didn’t know what was going on though. He grabbed his Master’s wide sleeve and pulled it aside, peeking out from behind it and looking at them with one eye.
The boy blinked his eyes when he saw that Mei Chao Bing was looking at him. Then he pulled the sleeve back. After a spell of silence, he tugged at it, making the fabric sway and Elder Baili’s brows twitch. "Second father."
Elder Baili pretended he hadn’t heard anything.
The boy seemed to ponder and finally, there was another tug at the sleeve and the small voice sounded again. "Second father!"
Elder Baili forced himself to smile only to be rewarded with a tug at the side of his robe and an even louder outcry. This time, the little boy sounded aggrieved.
Elder Baili furrowed his brows but still couldn’t bring himself to ignore the boy. He glanced over his shoulder. "Fen’er, didn’t I tell you to call me Master?"
Mei Chao Bing couldn’t see what happened behind the Elder’s back but Elder Baili’s expression spoke leagues about how pitiful the child had to look.
"Alright, alright, Master was wrong to ignore you. Stop looking at me like this!"
Mei Chao Bing couldn’t help but smile brighter but the voice of his own Master called him back to attention. "Chao Bing! Will you come or not?"
Mei Chao Bing tensed. He nodded at Elder Baili and then rushed after his Master who had already gone ahead. He couldn’t help but feel a little regretful. He really would have liked to see how things turned out. In the end, what had that little boy wanted to say?
He glanced up at his Master and couldn’t help but speak up. "Master, that was Elder Baili’s new disciple, right? He seemed nice."
Elder Feng snorted. "Don’t worry about irrelevant things. Just concentrate on your mission, that’ll be enough."
Mei Chao Bing nodded. "Yes, Master." He couldn’t help but glance over his shoulder though. It seemed that Elder Baili’s disciple had already emerged from behind his back and was also looking over in their direction.
Mei Chao Bing couldn’t help but give a wry smile. Well, he had probably been afraid of his Master. Most disciples thought he was scary. Glancing up at him, he could somewhat understand. Compared to the smiling Elder Baili his Master really seemed a bit unapproachable.
Meanwhile, a certain little bunny tugged at his Master’s sleeve again. "Second father, that was senior martial brother Mei."
Baili Chao blinked his eyes, waiting for his disciple to tell him about the rest of his revelation. Nothing came though. "And?"
Yun Bei Fen blinked his eyes. "That was senior martial brother Mei!" He said the sentence with some more conviction.
Elder Baili still didn’t understand. "So what?"
"It was senior martial brother Mei!" Yun Bei Fen furrowed his brows in displeasure and tightened his grip around his Master’s sleeve aggrieved.
"Yes, yes, it was! Let’s go now." He tried to pull his disciple along but a certain little bunny was looking in the direction where Mei Chao Bing and his Master had vanished in. Elder Baili couldn’t help but sigh. Why was his own appeal so much lower than that of a brat? "Alright, let’s not wait here, Fen’er. Your senior martial brother Mei is going on an important mission to learn. You should also use the time to get used to the Teng Yong Sect and become a cultivator. Don’t you want to make your Master proud?"
Yun Bei Fen still looked in the same direction, his gaze became thoughtful though and he muttered under his breath. "Make senior martial brother Mei proud …"
Elder Baili’s brows twitched but he just pulled his disciple along. "Yes, yes, that works as well. Just come with me now."
"Make senior martial brother Mei proud …"
???????So softtt
Ah elder Baili, I get it, it’s so hard to be a distant second ?
Poor Baili Chao! And the little bunny is so smitten with Mei Chao Bing~ It's like he just saw his most favorite celebrity~ Elder Feng seems so strict though. It would've been nice if Mei Chao Bing could have had a caring Master like Baili Chao too... But I'm glad Mei Chao Bing was already able to witness the little bunny's cuteness~
Thank you for the chapter, Yan-jie!
To Yun Bei Fen, Mei Chao Bing probably is a celebrity
@yansusustories That begs the question: Will he ever ask for an autograph?
@crimson_carnation He probably won't need to. He'll be provided one if he just looks cute ~
@yansusustories Aww, that's true~ Who can deny his cuteness?
@crimson_carnation No one!
@yansusustories Yes! But I bet the shy little bunny would still rather get Mei Chao Bing brand merchandise sneakily~
@crimson_carnation Sneaky?
@yansusustories Yes, sneaky~ Imagine a certain baby bunny sneaking into Mei Chao Bing's house while his senior brothers just watch and comment on it from outside
@crimson_carnation Are you trying to get me to write another chapter?
@yansusustories Maybe I am~ Or maybe I'm just thinking about an AU where Yun Bei Fen becomes a master thief and is obsessed with stealing from Mei Chao Bing in between his high profile heists. And then he gets caught by Mei Chao Bing one day and acts like a pitiful little bunny and convinces him that he is just a poor little boy doing this to fill his belly. Mei Chao Bing agrees to take him in and care for him, and they spend time together. But they both slowly fall for each other and... Well, I think I've already written enough
@crimson_carnation Was that a cliffhanger?
@yansusustories That was me leaving it open to let anyone who reads it make up their own ending~
@crimson_carnation And you're saying the little bunny is sneaky
@yansusustories But unlike the cute little bunny, my sneakiness is not out of love, but pure evil most of the times~ *appropriate evil laughter*
@crimson_carnation I'm sure there's some way to twist words and logic and make that into something lovable
@yansusustories If you can turn everything evil I say into something lovable...then does that make you my nemesis?
@crimson_carnation I don't know. Probably not
@yansusustories That's probably exactly what my nemesis would say to hide their identity
@crimson_carnation No, no, I'd wear glasses and a suit to hide my identity
@yansusustories So...you're not my nemesis?
@crimson_carnation Noooo ... definitely not! Why would I want to wear a suit? They're so uncomfortable!
@yansusustories Phew, that's good~ Because you already know too many of my weaknesses
@crimson_carnation *muahahaha* *ahem* Ah, I'd never use that knowledge for anything bad!
@yansusustories You won't sell it to my nemesis in return for chocolate?
@crimson_carnation That ... might depend. What kind of chocolate is your nemesis selling?
@yansusustories I knew it! As long as chocolate is in the equation, my secrets will become unsafe!
@crimson_carnation *whistles innocently* Ah, how could that be? Oh! Is that dark chocolate I see there?
@yansusustories Nooo! Do not give in to the temptation of spilling my secrets, Yan-jie!
