Mei Chao Bing returned to the Teng Yong Sect about a month later, covered in small wounds but with his level stabilized. If he went into closed-door cultivation for about a quarter of a year and then went to train again, he might even be able to reach the next small level! Wouldn’t his Master be proud then?

He rushed to Elder Feng’s courtyard, hurrying to his study. He cupped his fists and bowed. "Master, Chao Bing has returned!"

Elder Feng gave a low murmur. "Come on in."

Mei Chao Bing opened the door and walked in, trying to hold back his smile while he stood in front of his Master.

Elder Feng looked at his disciple, his gaze penetrating. "You haven’t reached the next level yet?"

Mei Chao Bing’s half-smile collapsed and he shook his head once. "No, Master."

Elder Feng sighed as if his disciple had disappointed his expectations. "I see. You enter closed-door cultivation then. No need to come out before you haven’t reached the next level."

Mei Chao Bing lowered his head and cupped his fists. "Yes, Master." He bowed and then stepped out of the room, closing the door behind him. He couldn’t help but look at it for a moment, feeling despondent. He still hadn’t worked hard enough. Maybe he should have stayed outside longer.

He sighed and then left his Master’s courtyard, slowly walking to his own house. He had gone half the way when he saw a little boy standing at the side of the road. He glanced over and his brows rose. Wasn’t this the little disciple of Elder Baili? What was he doing here?

Yun Bei Fen looked at Mei Chao Bing with big eyes. Then his gaze darted around and he crouched down behind a boulder a few steps away.

Mei Chao Bing’s brows rose further. This time his Master wasn’t even with him. Had his appearance had a lingering effect on this little boy? Ah, his Master should smile more!

Mei Chao Bing took a step closer and leaned forward, giving a warm smile himself. "Heh, there."

A messy bun and a pair of big eyes emerged from behind the boulder.

Mei Chao Bing smiled even brighter. He knew he was supposed to go into closed-door cultivation immediately but his Master shouldn’t mind a few minutes, right? "I’m Mei Chao Bing."

The big eyes blinked once but he didn’t get an answer.

"You’re Elder Baili’s disciple, right? What’s your name?"

The little one still stayed quiet and just looked at him with wide eyes. Mei Chao Bing couldn’t help but worry that his Master’s impression might have rubbed off on him. Did he also seem that unapproachable now? Well, if he did, then he had to work hard to show that he wasn’t like that.

He shifted closer and lowered himself in the hope of looking less intimidating. The eyes on the other side of the boulder widened further. "Elder Baili called you Fen’er, right? Is that your name?"

The eyes shifted to the side.

Mei Chao Bing didn’t know what else to do. Was he really that terrifying?

Before he could think of another measure, a voice sounded from down the path. "Little Bunny. Little Bunny!"

Mei Chao Bing glanced over before he turned back to the boulder. He blinked his eyes in confusion. The head on the other side of the boulder … it had disappeared.

Meanwhile, a certain little bunny threw himself into his second senior martial brother’s … lap. He actually wanted to throw himself into his arms but his second senior martial brother was too big and didn’t crouch down for him so he could only hug his thigh. "Second senior martial brother, I saw senior martial brother Mei just now!"

"Oh? No wonder you were gone so fast." Yan Hong Min finally leaned down and patted Yun Bei Fen’s head. "Let’s go back then? Master wants to try and explain to you again."

Yun Bei Fen pursed his lips. "Can we go and look at senior martial brother Mei a little longer?"

Yan Hong Min pondered. "Was there a cute junior martial sister around him?"

Yun Bei Fen shook his head.

"A good-looking senior martial sister?"

Yun Bei Fen shook his head again.

"Well, I guess it’s still better to look at his face than to look at Master’s face. So where is he?"

Yun Bei Fen happily grabbed Yan Hong Min’s hand and pulled him along, going to hide behind a bigger boulder this time. Then he sat down and looked around the big boulder, very contentedly watching his senior martial brother Mei. He couldn’t help but wonder though: What was his senior martial brother Mei searching for? Had he lost something on the path?
