Family reunion

The sun in the window marked the beginning of a new day. Unlike the previous days, this time Tamamo was lying next to me in bed. She had her eyes open and looked at me with a satisfied face when she saw me.

"Good morning, darling!" she told me happily.

"Good morning honey!"
"Did you just get up too?" I replied.

"Not really"
"But it seemed like your mother wanted to be alone with Maria."
"So I stayed here and cleaned the room a little."
"But I saw how calm you looked when you fell asleep, so I decided to stay in bed a little longer".
"Do you want breakfast?"
"I think breakfast is ready"
"I'm almost ready to go to school!"

"Tamamo, today is Saturday, we don't have to go to school today"

"Really?"
"So there are days off?"
"Although it is good because then we can try to clarify things with your sister, right?"
"So let's go down and say hello to her"

Tamamo and I tidied up the room and then went down to the breakfast room where my mother and sister were having breakfast. After we picked up our food and sat down at the table, Maria spoke.

"Now are you going to tell me who they are?"
"I am curious, because for the shooter that was yesterday it is seen that they are quite expert".
"Where did you manage to hire them?" my sister asked our mother.

"Well, I think it's time to explain all this"
"Sit back and calm down"
"I know it's hard to accept what you're going to hear," my mother looked at me worriedly.
"But I know you can accept it.

"Leave it," I told my mother
"I'd rather explain it myself.
"I think shame is part of my new life now, so I'm going to spare you at least that."

I took a breath, looked at Tamamo for a second and asked her to try not to do one of her pranks this time, preparing myself mentally to try to explain the entanglement I had ended up in to someone else and to be easy for her to understand.

"You like magic, right?"
"What if I told you that magic really exists?"
"Would you believe me?"

"Magic?" she asked with a curious look.
"What does it have to do with you? "

"Not much, really"
"But it would be easier to understand that way"
"What about the fantasy stories?"
"Would you believe them?"

"That's impossible"

"Do you like magic but don't believe in fantasy?"I pause for a second before speaking again.
"What if I told you that your brother is alive because of magic?"

"Leon?"
"But he's fine," she replied, tilting her head in confusion.

"Thank you," I replied, trying to resist the urge to just walk away and never come back.
"What about the other one?"

"Cesar?"
"He's been dead for two years."
"The I.S.C. gave me the last farewell letter from him along with the news."

"Is that true?" asked my mother.

"You didn't know?"
"Didn't they inform you?"
"He..."
"He died in the battle of Italy," Maria answered a little sadly.

"So that is what they told you," my mother said to herself in disbelief.

"We'll talk about that later!"
"I want to get to the point of this conversation!"
"What if I told you that your brother is still alive in some way?"
"Would you think that is crazy?"

"You said something about magic, didn't you?"
"I don't know the details."
"But if you can prove it exists, I'll believe anything you say," she said, while a curious face appeared again.

It was no coincidence that I tried to talk to her about magic, because I knew how obsessed she was with the subject, so it was easier for her to believe me and concentrate if I showed her something she really wanted first.

"Ok"
"Tamamo" I turned to my wife who was still eating.

"Here I am!" She replied happily as she raised her hand.

"You told me you could even do an eclipse."
"Could you make the magic a little less flashy?"
"Something safe and in the house?"

"Okay."
"I could do a blue fireball."
"Like this one!"

While still holding her food with one hand, she lifted the other on the table and opened her palm, and a blue fireball came out of her hand. Even though it was close to her hand, she showed no signs of discomfort, but I could feel the heat that her blue fire generated. Something like that does not normally exist in our world, because apart from the fact that it is not burning Tamamo's hand, the flame has nothing to generate it or feed it.

"What do you think?" Tama said proudly.

"Is magic!?"
"It's real!" Maria, completely impressed, puts her hands on her head

"Keep that away from the furniture!" said my mother, trying to avoid a catastrophe with Tama's fire.

"I'm sorry!" the goddess apologizes and turns off her magic.

"Seriously?"
"Who are you really?"

"You let me continue my introduction"
"Like I said, now that you see that magic really exists, what if I told you that your brother is actually alive?"

"Is that true?"
"Is he alive?" my sister looked at me with a confused face, anxiously waiting for an answer.

When I saw her face almost bursting into tears, I could no longer resist the urge to tell her the truth, but wanting to make sure that she was okay after what I was going to tell her and also my emotion to reveal who I was. I went to her and hugged her tightly, a moment later I continued to speak

"I'm so sorry."
"I never meant to leave you alone.
"I just wanted you to have a future like Dad wanted."
"Forgive me"

"Why do you talk like it's your fault?"

"After your brother died, several things happened and he ended up turning into an albino girl with fox ears and tail"

"Is that serious?"
"That would mean that Cesar is...?"

"It's me"
"I'm Cesar"

"But that's impossible!"
"You think it's a terrible movie?"
"At least try to prove it!"

"Once, when I told you the story of the princess and the frog, the next day one appeared near the window of your bed and..." I couldn't finish because a fist was directly in my face and hit me so hard that I fell backwards with the chair.

"Idiot!"
"You didn't have to go that far to prove you were Cesar."
"I believe you, but if you finish what you were about to say, I will kill you myself and make sure you don't come back".

After I got back on my feet, I told her my story again. As usual, try to tell only the essentials and save me the crazy stuff that would only cause more misunderstandings, like the one about Momo's marriage. I told her why I joined the Alliance Army, why her health had improved so much, about Tamamo, and how I met our mother. Maria listened carefully to everything I said, and although she did not seem to believe me, she was actually quite excited by the story. Although she occasionally asked one or two questions, which I tried to answer as best I could.

"So you managed to return from heaven through a portal that the Angles use as a means of transportation."
"And you are married to Tamamo, the goddess of the moon?" My beloved younger sister asked, happy to see that the world of magic she loved so much was becoming more and more real.

"Yes, very crazy I know"
"There are more parts, but for now I think it is enough to understand what has happened.

"You've had a pretty strange life"
"But if the magic is real!
"It means I can fulfill my dream!"
"Can you teach me magic now?"

"Did you just see your lost brother again and the first thing you ask him is that?"
"Can't you ask me something else?"
"Show a little more enthusiasm? "I complained to Maria, who was excited about the wrong things.

"It does not matter"
"All that is in the past.
"If I can learn magic, it will all have been worth it!" She replied again with emotion

"I can't do that."
"But Tamamo sure can"
"Ask her"

"Tamamo!"
"Come here, I want to ask you something!"

My sister ran to the living room where Tamamo was watching TV to see if she could really learn magic. I was alone in the dining room, but in the nearby kitchen, my mother was now preparing lunch, because all the time in the morning was spent in my story.

"And there she goes"
"Behind the dream of leaving everything behind"
"You must forgive her, you know how she is"
"If it's something with magic, she could leave everything behind without much," my mother said as she washed the rice.

"As long as she doesn't walk around all day again with that magic notebook she downloaded from the Internet."
"Everything will be fine.
"It seems like she believes me, even if she doesn't pay much attention to me.
"But right now we have other more important things to discuss," I told my mother with a serious face.

"You're right"
"We haven't finished this yet.
"We need to find out what the I.S.C. was planning by doing something as risky as kidnapping?"

"We can be sure that it really was the I.S.C. because the warehouse was exactly where Maria spent the night," I replied.
"What they were trying to capture you for must have been because of your position in the Alliance."
"Do you have any idea what would have happened if they had succeeded?"

"Well, my disappearance would not have been noticed until the next day.
"The Alliance command would have formed a team to search for me and rescue me."
"But the only thing I've been working on lately is finding Maria and some meetings with the government to set up a new defense system on Yokota base and maybe star talks to integrate Japan into the Alliance".
"None of this directly involves the I.S.C."

"What about Haru?"
"Why do you think she was kidnapped as well?"

"She is the granddaughter of Inspector Yamamoto, he is the head of the investigation division of the Tokyo police"
"Although he helped with the Alliance in the past, he retired at the end of last year."
"He's just an ordinary cop now."

"But still someone important"
"Someone like him must know something that happens, in addition to meeting some important people."
"Certainly someone to be careful of"
"If he was able to find Haru so quickly yesterday, he certainly knows how to do his job."

"What do you think?"
"Do you have any idea?" my mother asked, seeming to test me with my answer.

"Well, seeing that it was a multinational company with billions of dollars in its possession, that they did it for money is impossible".
"The fact that they kidnapped you means that it had something to do with your work and how it affects the government."
"Since the inspector was also one of those affected, I imagine it is because what they are looking for is here in Japan.
"In your case, they would probably have asked for something like getting the Alliance to intervene with the government in a certain way".
"As for the inspector, the only thing I can think of that would be relevant is his police position.
"So the only thing I can think of is that maybe they wanted to keep him quiet about whatever he found by using Haru to threaten him."

"But I'm just an intermediary."
"If I had been kidnapped, they would not have been able to ask the Japanese government for anything for my release.

"So there are only two possibilities.
"The first is that they wanted you or the Alliance to do something for them."
"Or the second option is that you were a nuisance to them and they didn't want to kidnap you, they wanted to kill you."
"And looking at the resources you have and the way you have been asking questions about them all over the place, that is a real possibility."

My mother stopped what she was doing and stood still for a moment, deep in thought. It seems that my mother had not realized the extent of the danger she had run into yesterday. Her face changed from one of doubt to one of irritation. She turned and saw my face.

"Then we have to do something."
"They will try again, perhaps with a more direct method," she said clearly.

"Do not worry about me"
"If you need me to do something, I will do it immediately without question," I replied quickly.

I'm not going to let some fucking bastards hurt my family after everything we went through to get here. I'd make them pay for it, even if they thought they could get away with it. Even if I have to fight for my life again.

"So you want to get to the bottom of this as well?"
"This is only going to get worse than what happened yesterday," my mother asked, trying to figure out my answer to this question.

"If so, I think you need a lot of help."
"I know how to defend myself pretty well, and causing trouble is my specialty."

"I'll make some calls."
"I'm sure the ISC has people infiltrated everywhere."
"I need to trust people before I do anything."
"We need to find out what their real goals are, stop them, and find a way to make sure they never bother us again."

My mother grabbed the house's wireless phone and went up to her room, leaving her lunch preparation aside. I don't know who she's going to talk to, but if she left her kitchen, I feel sorry for the poor person on the other end of the phone.
