There was a big bang…

Not the one that created everything, but an actual explosion. It all started a few minutes ago when Jack was living his usual boring life. Although it was extremely boring to most people, he found it quite satisfactory.

He had a stable income from a peaceful job which was actually quite interesting. Although it wasn’t as highly paid as a surgeon, it was close to that value, and on top of that, he enjoyed his work, which was to program games for a company called Heavenly Games Pvt. Ltd. His work lasted for barely a few hours a week, and most of the work he did from the comfort of his home. On every Wednesday and Friday, he would have to go to the office to report on his work so far, and confirm his new assignments.

With this enjoyable lifestyle of sitting at home on your bed and typing away at the Alienware laptop, Jack was more or less completely satisfied. He had worked hard, and after university and post-grad, he had immediately joined this company. He had worked his a*s off and made enough money to pay off his debts to his parents for his tuition in university and post-grad, and slowly began collecting money, and had even bought his own house after nearly 10 years of slaving off.

Now he was nearing 35 years, and was nearing the stable point in his life, where he had everything he needed with no exaggerated expenses and nothing too high in terms of salary.

It was late afternoon and Jack was returning hm after submitting his latest assignment and receiving a new assignment.

After working at the company for so long, both his superiors, and himself had understood his strong point. He was good at creating ‘systems’ for the games he worked on. No matter the type of game it was, if he was given a few days to work on it, Jack was able to somehow put together varying types of systems based on the occasion.

Heavenly Games Pvt. Ltd., worked differently than normal companies in the industry. They did not make a coding slave machine, but rather brought in people for a contract of a month in order for them to find a particular specialisation in terms of the game building and marketing process. During this month, the people are made to try out all the parts of process, and were judged in each aspect by the superiors after the month. Some people were good at building the controls, while others were good at fighting mechanics. Some were good at increasing game efficiency, while others were good at managing the physics in the games. Jack was good at creating systems, and very good at that. This was rather useful for the company since most of their games were single player RPGs, and online multiplayer RPGs, both of which required systems.

This job was initially done by anyone willing to do it in each project individually, but after Jack began working, all of this was done by him. The job entailed not only creating a system, but also creating a method of segregation between power, and skill level within the game world, along with a smooth yet entertaining way to progress through those segregations.

While returning, Jack noticed something flashing conspicuously in a nearby alley. Being the normal citizen that he was, he squinted his eyes towards the flashing light.

The next moment, he ignored it as if it never existed and moved on with life. This chapter in his life was closed, never to be revisited again, as Jack reached the door to the two-story house he had bought near where he worked.

He unlocked his door, and pulled open the door. At that moment, suddenly, the door exploded.

There was a big bang…and everything went white. And that was the last thing Jack remembered.
