Chapter 91: Mission at the Desert

...

A few weeks have passed since I arrived at this Kingdom, nothing much has passed after I became a Knight (A temporary one), I did accidentally broke a record when I went to the Mages guild to learn some of the magic from this place. It seemed that I actually had a bit more mana than a girl called Yuuki, who was known as the best sorceress of the whole Kingdom, which in turn ended in me making quite the havoc...

*Sigh...*

Being the best is tough...

After that, I continued doing my routine without that much problem. I investigated several books about magic and the fundamentals of mana. And although I haven't really checked up any new types of magic until now, I was gonna do it eventually. The theoretic book of Mana was pretty interesting, but unfortunately extremely large, so it was taking me some time to finish it completely.

As for my money...  After understanding the currency of this Kingdom, which was still using the simple system of copper, silver, and gold coins monetary system from the ages before the Great war, I tried selling my potions at the main street right away. However, it seemed that the people were a bit wary of me due to the brutal act that I performed at the coliseum. Luckily, the fear only lasted one or two days before the people started approaching out of curiosity, which then ended up in all of them recommending my potions to their friends and acquaintances.

So, I was gathering money pretty quickly even though I had not received my payment as a Knight yet. My small fortune had accumulated and reached the astounding amount of 57 Gold coins!

How much did I need for the ship, you may ask?

At least 1000 Gold coins... or 10 platinum coins, both of them worked either way.

I was going slow but surely!

Though... I was getting a bit anxious thinking that when I came back to my house, mechanic bosses would be destroying everything around it.

But whatever, if it happens it happens then. In the worst case, I can just go to an isolated island and live there for the rest of my life.

"Everyone, today we have a mission!!"

While I was still lost in my thoughts, suddenly I heard the voice of that Jeffrey guy yelling at all of us.

"Since you all know very well, we are deemed to be the most important squad of Knights in the whole kingdom due to our strength and advanced abilities in combat!" Jeffrey crossed his arms and looked at all the knights present with a proud expression on his face (Not me though).

Why this sudden flattery, will something bad happen?

"And since we are the elite squad of this Kingdom, we have been given a very dangerous and important mission personally by his majesty! I guess most of you might have already heard of the news about the great weapon that Sir Delbere will create to destroy the whole nest of Antlions in one go, right?"

""Yes sir""

"Since you know that, then I won't explain about it. However, since that weapon will probably destroy everything in its surroundings, we have been tasked with the mission of recovering the artifacts we lost after the city of Areinia was destroyed by the Antlions. These artifacts are The legendary Storm Spear, wielded by an old hero from the ages before the Great war, and used to decimate entire armies! The Almighty Staff of Thunder, used by the best mages of their times to fight the most dangerous monsters of all times, and finally, The Mysterious Conch of Poseidon, which belonged to the mythic hero Poseidon, who fought against the powerful demon Cthulhu and unfortunately lost his life during the battle. We have yet to unravel the mysteries of this artifact, but we believe that if we continue researching it, in a near future we might discover its use! Thus, in order to retrieve these three artifacts before the entire area gets destroyed, it has been decided that we will depart in a week towards the lost city of Areinia!"

*Whisper*

"Now, I know that most of you are dubious about going to such a dangerous place with just us. And you are right, even though we are the elite squad of Knights from this Kingdom, it is not wise to underestimate the Antlions and their ferocity. Thus, we will receive the aid of the strongest sorceress from the Kingdom, princess Yuuki!!"

Ex-strongest you mean...

*Gasps*

"Princess Yuuki? Then this mission actually has a chance of success!"

"I heard that she destroyed an entire army of Antlions with her magic alone! If we go with her then we will probably manage to retrieve the artifacts easily!"

"Even Antlions won't stop us from retrieving the weapons of Humanity!!"

The crowd of Knights exploded in cheers as soon as they heard the name of that seemingly famous princess. Which should mean that she was pretty strong, or at least enough to accompany us on this mission. Otherwise, I couldn't see why could the King send a princess on a mission where the risk of dying is very close to 100%.

Was she an unwanted child?

Maybe I'm being a bit mean here.

Suddenly, from behind Jeffrey appeared a very beautiful woman wearing an extremely elegant dress that somehow seemed to be giving her an even more majestic aura, she had long and silk-like pink hair, and she was holding a rather luxurious staff in her hand that was unnecessarily adorned with dozens of diamonds and rubies everywhere.

However, although I did not really care about her appearance, when I looked into her eyes momentarily her status page showed itself for me, and my eyes twitched slightly.

Name: Yuuki Nuwa

Race: Human+

-Status:

[Hp: 250/250]

Another [Human+]...? Not only that, but she also had 250 Hp like Evvie, Jack, or Claire... And she was the princess...

At this point, I started considering the possibility of all of them being Npc's. However, since probably most of them couldn't sell me objects like in the game, I just decided to shrug aside the matter.

After all, nothing good comes from thinking of this world as a game.

"Greetings everyone, as you have heard I will take part on this expedition towards Areinia in order to retrieve those important Artifacts that were taken away by the Antlions. I could appreciate it if every one of us could get along and be good friends during this trip together, I've seen everyone's abilities, and I feel like we all can accomplish..."

While the princess talked about how great we were, I decided to inspect the staff on her hand as I was rather curious about how strong could the weapon of the (Ex)Strongest sorceress of this Kingdom be.

As I looked at it directly, soon its status showed up to me.

"Cough Cough!!"

"It's something wrong mister Aspen?" When the princess heard me coughing so badly, she looked at me with an expression of concern and tried to approach me. However, rapidly I cleared my throat and waved at her signaling that I was okay.

"It's okay, I just ate some Peanut, and the pieces stayed at my throat" (A/N: god that's awful when it happens)

"E-eh, alright...?"

In reality, I did not cough because I ate Peanut... well yes, I ate Peanut, but I did not cough because of that. Instead, it was because of the absurd power her staff had.

[Mythical] Resonance Scepter

...

-81 Magic damage.

-9% Critical strike chance.

-16 Mana cost/Per minute.

-Fast speed.

-Average Knockback.

[+15% damage]

[+5% Critical strike chance]

[+15% Knockback]

[+10% Speed]

[-10% Mana cost]

What's with that broken thing... This could have easily dealt with The Eye of Cthulhu back in the day. Just some minutes and boom, no more Eye of Cthulhu!

Well, I don't know if she is exactly fast enough to avoid the Eye of Cthulhu from eating her, so maybe it's not that broken.

Maybe I should take it...?

...

Well, I might have done that in the past, but after reading that theoretical book about the origins of Mana, I have started to believe that maybe I can create my own weapons without the help and binding of the system.

My psychological abilities had already developed quite a lot after all. If a human without blessings that amplified his mental abilities created this weapon, then why couldn't I do the same or even better?

More exactly, why couldn't I create every weapon in the game by myself, even if not using the System, when my comprehensive abilities were at least four times bigger than that of the smartest human being? After all, although the system did indeed help me a lot, it was indeed restraining my own progress, or better said, I was restraining my own progress by relying on the system for creating my weapons and such...

Thus, recreating, or even upgrading this weapon even further wasn't an impossible task. The only thing I lacked... was knowledge.

I guess I know already what to do while I'm at this place, huh?

"Very well, you are dismissed for today, remember that our mission starts in a week from now on, so prepare yourselves as most as you can!" Jeffrey yelled at us and waved his hand indicating to us that we were free to leave.

I immediately went and picked up my things before preparing myself to leave, after all, I now had a certain goal to accomplish, and it was gonna certainly take a lot of time. Thus, I didn't have time to waste now that only one week was left before I could have to accompany them to retrieve those artifacts or whatsoever.

However, when I was about to leave the training grounds, I felt a very intense gaze on my back that seemed to pierce a hole in my due to its intensity.

When I turned to look at whoever was watching me like that, I saw the princess with narrowed eyes and an angry expression on her face looking in my direction, but when she saw me look back at her she immediately smiled and waved gently in my way.

...

Did I do something to anger her?

...
