“Hurry up! We have superior numbers! They can’t take all of us.”

A 50s old Marquis yelled, This time, an army 20,000 strong marched into the forest, this time taking a different route than the first wave, there was a chance they were attacked at a certain route, so the best course in the mind of the Newly appointed Marquis was to enter the forest in a different route.

Unlike the baron commanding the first wave, the marquis was more cautious and more conscious, he didn’t underestimate his enemy, but he overestimated his enemies, for him it was better to think that your enemies are always more powerful than you, rather than think everyone is weaker than you, It gives you a thought that you were able to defeat someone more powerful than you.

“Where are the scout?”

The Marquis asked one of his commanders near him, to which the commander shook his head, as the scouts still hadn’t returned to the main column.

Which made him more wary, he was as you could say one of the previous king’s aide as he was also a loyal subject to the previous king, he only joined Julian’s separatist army because of the threats he was getting from the nobility of Jon, being a noble in the north.

I never wanted to betray his highness.

He sulked in his thoughts, his betrayal from the previous king now made him a traitor to not only his previous friends but also his nephew, Fredrick, until he was interrupted by a shout.

“Th- the rear guard! The rear Guard! They were wiped out!-“

Hearing the sudden news, he immediately went on the defensive, until another report came this time at the vanguard.

“Marquis! The Vanguard! They were attacked by enemy cavalry!”

Hearing the news, he estimated the casualties of his remaining forces, there was a chance that they took no prisoners, so his casualties varied from 3,000-7,000 both the vanguard and the rearguard combined.

“Order the retreat!”

He commanded his aides and officers and began a retreat, but they were already encircled, but he only needed to warn the first prince, to think of another plan, even if it was just one straggler as long as he reaches the main army, it would be fine.

“Go! Already! Run!”

He looked at his scrambled and scattered forces, who were now, weren’t listening to the commanders and fled for their lives, this was the problem when you only recruited an army that had barely no experience, once they finally saw what they sold their lives for they'll immediately leave.

“Dammit! Let’s go!"

An explosion then was ignited at the vanguard, the marquis was suddenly shocked at what had happened, an explosion in the forest.

Are they trying to burn the forest to the ground?!

***

Meanwhile at the plains, where the reserve of the separatist waited and rested, they also heard the explosion from afar, taking many of the nobles, commanders, and even the first prince’s attention.

“What is that? Prince! He can’t be serious!”

The first prince, Julian was also shocked at his younger brother’s move, using fire magic inside a forest was a good move for larger armies, but in return, there is a chance the entire forest would ignite in flames.

“… what are you even thinking, younger brother?”

He said in a both praising and confused manner.

At the same time at the forest, the separatist forces were immediately scattered and were picked off one by one by the Linoire loyalist.

“Wait! Wait! Don-“

A Linoire Loyalist showed no mercy to the armed peasant’s the separatist called ‘soldiers’, they continued the bloodbath, casting both magic and engaging in sword fighting until none of their enemies were left alive.

The sound of the swords hitting each other and the screams of the two sides, echoed and were heard throughout the forest.

The loyalist being more flexible and less in numbers, used their enemy’s numerical superiority and inexperience in combat against them, though there were some that gave a good fight, most of them just ran and waited to be captured and or be killed.

The forest ensued in a massive bloodbath that the trees, leaves, bushes, and the previous lifeless bodies were spilled with more blood. That part of the forest was nothing more than a forest of blood.

After a few hours of cutting and hunting down stragglers and killing the remainders, the loyalist decided to take a break in the deep forest, Fredrick knew, that Julian’s casualties were larger, those that escaped would obviously tell their experiences to Julian, who would think of another plan to defeat Fredrick.

Both brothers were in a stalemate, Julian, couldn’t send more troops inside the forest as a massacre would only ensue, while Fredrick can’t keep holding the line as there were too many of the separatist than their numbers, they would most likely die because of exhaustion and then being attacked at all sides.

***

It was already nighttime, but Julian still hadn’t given up with defeating his brother, thus, he prepared a different unit that was perfectly designed to kill by night and escape quietly when its over.

Oh, Fredrick… I always knew you had the talent… if only you could’ve joined me.

Julian then raised his right hand that was covered under a white and decorated glove, signaling another wave. But they weren’t just ordinary soldiers, they were well trained assassins and a handful of experienced mercenaries, whom he paid to fight for him.

“I don’t want a bloodbath, Fredrick, let this serve a lesson that older brother knows best…”

In the cover of the night, the silhouettes of his experienced and well-trained warriors, dropped down and rushed the forest, hiding behind and over the trees, they were well-designed for this type of battle.

***

Under a different part of the forest, two entities wearing dark cloaks hid under the night sky, were secretly watching the battle unfold.

“Just as you suspected, Prince Julian won’t give up on admitting defeat.”

“Don’t worry, King Fredrick has this under control, for now we focus at Prio, everything already failed ever since both the females left the kingdom safely, this operation already failed.”

“If you say so, then we must prepare for the next operation... where will it happen again?"

"You imbecile, you forgot already, at the world Prio, that democratic state, The Ruuma Republic... that's where the next operation will commence."

"Wait, then what about the northern one? isn't that under our jurisdiction?"

"Dammit, you idiot, because of your incompetence, they assigned it to somebody else... we will have to join the others at Prio for the next operation, Understand?"

"Yes, yes, understood."

The two entities then left the scene, hopping atop the branches of the trees and escaping under the night.
