Forever

I never realized how fleeting those words are until now.

Remember how we said we will love each other forever?

Right under this tree where we planted the seed we declared our forever love with a pair of golden rings.

But now as the tree grows older and wilder,

The one who planted the tree with me is no longer there.

The pair of rings separated, as one rusts underneath the soil, while the other oxidizes in the warm hands.

Underneath the crooked tree that no longer able to convey it's beauty,

There I made a promise to forever remember you as that seemed to be the only forever there is.

But time holds no forever,

As the tree begins to die, as it succumbs to diseases, a new one shall sprout in its place.

My memory falters slowly,

I soon remember how someone would hand me warm coffee in the cold mornings,

but when I try to remember the face, it blurs.

My guilt and pain I thought would I feel forever in an endless cycle,

but as time passes a new type of guilt covers it, as the pain lessens.

I try to look at your pictures to refresh, to keep my promise of forever

But time pities no one, forever simply does not work with time,

as the pictures weather into yellow, and fades along with the rusted frames, as time pushes forward unyieldingly,

my thought of you does not lessen, but the impact does

Ah how cruel time is with forever, my only hope before my death is to at least be able to remember your smile.

That I am not the last one who would remember you in this world. How I wish you forever live on one way or another.

But even legends dies eventually.

Forever is a cruel word that is only a fairytale so I’ve learned.
