Chapter Four

Happiness. That’s what I am feeling right now. Why? It’s because Feeh said that he was going to teach me about magic engravings! Magic engravings are very special and require a lot of power and control to use, or so the books in Feeh’s library state.

If I can flawlessly create items with perfect engravings, then it would help me be more proficient in using magic. As for why I want to learn magic and be proficient in it so badly, it’s ‘cause I want to prove that I am not some burden to others. Also, I have this strange feeling that is kind of telling me to learn about them. I can’t really explain it, and don’t want to bother Feeh with this little thing. Wouldn't that just sound like I’m being petty?

Anyways, am I not going to be checking what rank I am at? Hahaha! This past month has been really exciting! And I still have martial arts left to learn! Yesssssssss!

As Feeh started to talk, I felt anxious. What if I get a bad rank? I don’t know what is a good rank or what is a bad rank, so I don’t have anything to compare myself to. Uggghhhh! What should I do?

“So let’s find out your rank now, shall we?”

I timidly nodded my head. It isn’t that I’m scared, but am just feeling anxious. As for why I’m anxious, I think that I have an idea. I think that I just don’t want to disappoint Feeh. That is why I diligently study and try my hardest. I don’t wanna be left behind by anyone. (A/N: There you have it, a paranoid protagonist! However, do not worry! As he matures, he’ll overcome his paranoia! This is just so that the heroines can find a way to enter his heart when they meet later! And if you haven’t noticed, the MC is quite introverted at times. So please bear with me and this protagonist. Please keep enjoying reading this story.)

Feeh requested me,”Could you please place your hand into the Ganter’s palm? After doing that, start to think of all the jobs you want. Then add a bit of magic power into it.”

“Well, before you do it, let me teach you a bit more about the Ganter. I want to use this as a learning opportunity for you. Is that alright with you?”

Of course my reply was,”Okay!”

Who wouldn’t want to learn new things? Learning more things will help me adapt to the outside world quicker. Having flexible occupations will allow me to work almost anywhere. Besides, it is also good for the brain to learn.

“The way that the Ganter works is very complicated, and you haven’t understood enough about magic engravings and magic words to completely understand it yet. That is why I will simplify the way that it works. Even then, it would be complicated for you to understand. So pay attention.”

I was paying attention.

“First of all, the way to activate the Ganter is by laying your palm inside of its. As soon as your palm touches the Ganter, the magic words that were engraved upon it will start to work. First of all, ‘eternity’ will start it’s process. It will take a wisp of your magic into it so that it can cause ‘ahuang’ to wake up. Even if you aren’t a mage, you still have some magic power in you from being surrounded by it from the moment of your birth, so the Ganter will work for everyone. (A/N: Just think of magic power as a type of gas. After a creature dies, the magic power in it will evaporate into the air. Most people can’t use the magic power in the air because they can’t detect it. However, just like what happens if you are exposed to radiation, the magic will cover your body and may leave a faint mark behind. Feeh obviously knows about the magic power in the air, since he is a great mage.)

“After ‘ahuang’ starts working, no more magic power is needed. Now comes ‘Luan’--”

Before Feeh finished speaking, I asked,”I just realized that you haven’t told me what ‘Luan’ does! Will you tell me?”

“Foolish child. I was just about to tell you what it does. As for the matter of not telling you what ‘Luan’ actually does, I just forgot about it.”

I can’t help but feel exasperated. Even though he forgot to tell me, I got reprimanded. It should be the other way around. *Sigh*

“‘Luan’ is a very strong magic word. It is ranked as one of the deadliest and strongest Forbidden Magic Words. It casts a very special spell. The type is one that uses lifeforce, as you already know. The spell itself actually creates a VERY strong barrier. The barrier is called the ‘Luan Barrier’. It comes out only when the owner is in a very dangerous state. For example, a king has one of these things. If he were about to be assassinated by a sword/arrow/etc., the barrier would come out and block against the attack.”

“Even if the owner of the Ganter is not aware he/her was about to be assassinated, the Ganter’s ‘Luan Barrier’ would protect them. The ‘Luan Barrier’ actually has a semi-soul. The semi-soul is created from the lifeforce of the person who engraved the word onto the Ganter. The semi-soul has no thought, it relies on pure instinct. Whenever it senses a danger nearby, it immediately protects itself, and unconsciously the person/people near it.”

“Though it can protect itself, it isn’t very smart. Because it only has a semi-soul, and not a full one, it can’t talk, speak, understand, learn, or even think. It also has no body. However, it still has genders. Female, male, and some are even a combination of both genders.”

“Now let’s talk more about the Ganter and how it works. Some things are very hard to comprehend, even for people as wise and smart as me.”

Don’t take that to heart, folks! He’s lying, I tell ya! A wise and smart mage? I don’t see any near me! I’ll just stop pointing out when Feeh’s bragging, okay? It’s getting really annoying.

“For reasons unknown, whenever you think of a job while holding the Ganter, it lets out a light which shows how good of a potential you have on the jobs you were thinking about. After checking your potential on a Ganter, you will have a mark left on the hand that you put in the Ganter. Because the ways to create the Ganter were passed down from many Ancient Elders, we people of this era don’t know much about them. People from this era building a Ganter is the same as giving a child instructions on how to act mature. We don’t know what we’re doing, but it gets the job done.”(A/N: There! If anyone wants to make quotes about my story, feel free to use this!)

“Of course, I have already solved the formula on how to make them and have completely understood the process!”

“Is that so, Feeh? Why don’t you tell me about what you found, then?”

Ha! I want to see how Feeh recovers from that! How will he still be able to brag after that?

“I would Cadmar, but it is really, really, really complicated. You’re only eight years old. Maybe when you become fifteen, I will tell you.”

Under my breath, making sure he wouldn’t hear, I said,”Touché.”

“Now, let us actually see your potential. We've been delayed for enough time.”

“Finally,” I said.

“Yes,” agreed Feeh.

“Put your hand inside of the Gantar’s. Then think of all the jobs you can think of. Try to think of at least 3 or more jobs. That is all you have to do. Oh! Also, pour a bit of magic into the Ganter. Just think of your magic power as some liquid and try to pour it into the Ganter, which you can think of as a cup.”

I stretched my hand out and did exactly as Feeh told me to do. I stretched my hand and put it inside the Ganter’s. I closed my eyes to concentrate, then I started to think of jobs. First of all, a mage! Then a swordsman! Hmmmm, oh yeah! A martial artist! Some more, some more! An enchanter! An engraver! A potions master! Then, as a joke I thought of a King.

After thinking of all the jobs I could in that moment in time, I poured my magic power into the Ganter. Looking back in the past, I probably should’ve spent more time thinking of occupations.

I felt a bit tired as I put enough magic into it. It must be because I was a new wizard. After gaining a bit more experience, I will be able to use magic without feeling too tired, since I have a large amount of magic power. (A/N: Cadmar reads a lot of books. He has common knowledge about things like this. The more important pieces of information, he won’t know that much since he’s still a child.)

Now all that’s left is to open my eyes. I don’t know what I will get, but I best get over it. If I didn't have a good potential to be something, it was inevitable. I was just born that way.

As I slowly open my eyes, I see that Feeh has an astonished expression, or so I think. I look over to the Ganter and see That there are seven lights coming up above from it. Each light is a different color and has a word and a symbol in it.

From left to right, the colors were: green, red, yellow, orange, purple, blue, black. The lights had the words mage, swordsman, martial artist, enchanter, engraver, potions master, and King. The words had a strange symbol below them. The symbol was ‘∞’. What does that mean? I looked over to Feeh, and he looked at me.

“What are you? No regular child would be able to have this talent. Are you the Son of Heaven? Are you favored by a god or something? *Sigh* I guess I should’ve expected this.”

“Huh?”

“I just realized, you don’t know what I’m talking about, right?”

I nodded my head in agreement. I truly was curious.

“See here, boy. Those lights had a word and a symbol under them, right?’

“Yes, of course. I know that the words are standing for the potential jobs I may have. However, I don’t know what the symbol stands for. “

“Of course you don’t. You’ve never seen it before. The symbol means infinity. Infinity, you probably know, right?”

“Of course I do! I know my vocabulary! Infinity means to continue forever.”

“Yes. The symbol stands for how much potential you have at the  occupation. You have a limitless potential, Cadmar. Also, one of those jobs you thought of was being a ‘King’. You have an infinite potential for being that. I guess I should just get you engaged to a princess, right?” Joked Feeh.

“Haha. Very funny.”

“I am actually very surprised at myself. I’m taking this all pretty calmly. Cadmar, you are a genius that is born every few hundred thousand years. I am sure about that!”

Even though I murmured an.”Okay.”, I don’t believe him. Feeh is a big chunni¹. He is pretty delusional about his strength. Quite amusing at times, but mostly annoying. Unless I actually get proof about him being great and all that, then I will just not believe him. That is why I shouldn’t take anything he said seriously.

“Hmmm. So we’ve checked my potential jobs, what’re going to do next?”

“I will now be teaching you about martial arts. Just a moment, though. I need to recover from the surprise of seeing your talents.”

Feeh then waited for a moment before saying,”Okay, I’ve recovered.”
“Okay, so what martial arts shall you be teaching me?” I asked Feeh, not mentioning his exaggerated reaction to my potential.

“Oh, we’ll be learning about the martial art called Krav Maga. This martial art was found by me in an ancient ruin. Should we start learning?”

“Yes!”

1- Chunni means a person who can't tell the difference between fantasy and reality.

A/N: Thank you to all those patient readers!  Also, next chapter, I'm going to be talking about the Krav Maga that Feeh is going to teach Cadmar. (To those on Scribblehub, this was written a couple of weeks back so it was incorrect. The next chapter won't have Krav Maga in it.) Should I also put in a bit of magic into the martial art? Comment!

The reason this chapter was a bit short was because my cousin had Covid and I was worried about her. Of course, she doesn't have it right now!
