Amara had finally trained Realm Gate and Filch to the point that she was confident that she would be able to bring items over from other realms.

With Ezme’s guidance, Amara was able to see the world she had known as her home. Seeing it had felt surreal, and caused a spike in her emotions.

Amara had once again wished to go back in time to be with her parents. Even her foster parents who she despised didn’t seem that bad of an option anymore.

As Amara had begun to weep uncontrollably, Ezme had draped her arms and wings around her.

Normally, whenever Amara began to show signs of emotional distress, Ezme would run off to Earth and bring back smoothies or something else. It had made Amara irritated, even if she appreciated the gesture.

But Ezme was finally there for her without running away.

“Tell me what troubles you.” The angel had said as she held Amara. Amara would have burst into laughter if she hadn’t been overwhelmed by her emotions.

Damn angels are socially inept sometimes. Amara had thought.

“I miss home.” Amara had finally managed to let out with a broken voice. The home that she had experienced with her parents was what she truly missed. Her true home.

“...I’m sorry.” Ezme eventually whispered. She would repeat the words while pressing her warm wings against Amara’s back.

Amara had wrapped her arms around Ezme’s small frame and wept against her shoulder. A part of her wanted to be angry at Ezme, but as she heard Ezme’s voice break too, Amara realized that she truly cared.

Ezme hadn’t wanted to make a mortal the champion. They were both victims in a larger game.

Although Amara couldn’t see Ezme’s face nor hear her weep, she was certain that she too was crying.

“You're not alone. Things will work out.” (Ezme)

Even through the broken voice that carried the words Amara could tell that Ezme meant them. Ezme believed things would work out.

But it had still taken a long time for Amara to calm down.

Amara began to put her master plan into action.

However she had to be fast, and cast her filch through the portal as soon as it was finished forming while keeping her eyes on the item she wanted to bring with Farsight.

The concentration it took to do all those things at once was considerable, but as a result her Willpower had increased.

[Thump!]

Her first choice had been books and other things that could be considered less fragile. Amara’s bed had also found itself used for a new purpose, other than rest and relaxation.

Namely, as a cushion for the things Amara brought through.

You know, I never felt like stealing anything before. I always thought that I should earn the money needed to buy what I wanted.

But now, I think I deserve to get the stuff I want. It’s not like I can pay for them anyway, and I’m not going to spend a millennium in boredom. And I need to get stronger too.

Amara smiled as she climbed onto the bed and looked at her latest catch. It was a laptop, stolen from a warehouse.

Though one could consider that the losses to the company that the laptop was stolen from, would be greater than one computer. Amara’s Filch spell had caused the shelf to topple over.

Amara had chosen to disable her Farsight before she witnessed the end result.

I hope nobody gets into trouble for that. Would be a shame.

Amara inspected the cardboard box and read the details before she sighed with a smile on her face as she held it to her chest.

Brand new. Good specs. And didn’t even cost a penny. Aah, finally things are looking up in my life. Baby, we have so much to catch up on.

“You mind wiping the drool off your face?” Ezme’s unamused voice came as Amara was holding the cardboard box to her chest.

“Are you jealous?” Amara winked.

“Certainly not! But you look unsightly!” Ezme pouted. “Like a pervert!”

You have no idea. You wait for it Ezme, you’ll find out the meaning of the word eventually.

After unpacking her new laptop she set it up on one of her tables.

“You know it’ll be pretty useless right now, yes?” Ezme asked with a cocked head as she sat on the same table as the laptop.

“I know. Babysteps is the way to go, I’ll get it to work as I want it eventually.” Amara replied with a smile.

Amara picked up the voltmeter she had stolen.

Now then, to create a new skill.

“Ezme, if I wanted to create an electric current, then I’d have to use the Creation skill, right?” Amara asked.

“Indeed. What about it?” Ezme looked at Amara curiously.

“What if I wanted to have a creation skill solely for that purpose? As I’ll have to reuse the same one often?”

“I see. You can simply think of wanting to make a new skill as you invoke the Creation spell. That’s how we angels use stuff like Holy Fire anyway.” Ezme explained.

Alright then. Let’s see if the system can be as helpful as it sounds.

Amara’s body heated up as she activated her divine power, and imagined the flow of electric charge.

Creation: Electricity!

[Ding!]

Do you wish to synthesize a new derivative skill from the divine skill Creation?

Y / N

[collapse]

Yes.

Spoiler

Skill Electricity has been added to register.

[collapse]

Bingo.

Amara watched the numbers on the voltmeter that had spiked at first go down as she focused on limiting the voltage of the skill.

Once she managed to hold the right voltage she looked at the rate her divine power was decreasing.

Maybe five minutes. Enough for a test run at least.

Amara memorized the feeling of how quickly her divine power should drain for the right voltage and cancelled her spell. After refilling her divine power she used the spell again, this time for the laptop.

Electricity.

Amara watched the charge light on the laptop start blinking and smiled.

Let’s take you out for a little spin.

Ezme watched curiously as Amara pushed the button to start up the laptop. After rushing through the initial processes by selecting default options, she eventually arrived at the desktop screen.

It’s alive!

“Looks like you got it working.” Ezme said with a smile. “I admit I’m impressed. Didn’t expect you to succeed on the first try.”

Amara smiled wryly. “Oh, my first tries have a high success rate.”

“Tsk. Insufferable.” Ezme muttered.

[Ding!]

Spoiler

Creation has reached level 3!

Amara smiled as she read the screen and suddenly smelled a strange odour. Just as she understood it was the smell of burning plastic the screen on her laptop went black.

Ah. My baby.

Guess I need to get a new one.

After a long time of training Amara managed to get her Electricity to limit itself. Amara had decided to train on less valuable items - light bulbs for the most part.

I should get generators, batteries and stuff instead, but I don’t know how they all work and I want to see if I can get these things to work first.

On another brand new laptop, Amara had eventually managed to charge it until the battery was full. It was time to test her next idea: to get onto the internet.

Amara had gotten all she needed now. She was going to connect her newly acquired phone to the newly acquired laptop via usb cable.

All she needed now, was to open a small Realm Gate to drop the phone through.

Conjure a small Realm Gate next to the table, drop the phone through and Bob’s your uncle.

If it’s that small and used with little divine power only to let something small and no magical energies through, I should be able to keep it up for longer.

But it won’t be that long anyway, so I’ll need to be fast.

However, when she attempted, it took too long for her computer to connect to the internet. She had to admit defeat for the time being.

Guess I just have to level my Realm Gate more. Might as well do so by getting more stuff that I’ll need.

And so Amara’s filching spree went on for a while. She got all the entertainments she could think of, some of which she’d probably never use. Everything needed to make coffee and tea, as well as a small mountain of snacks started to be filled onto the shelves in her bedroom.

Amara even began stealing things such as home power batteries and wind turbine generators which she would begin setting up once she knew how, and put them all in an empty room.

All was in preparation for powering everything from a single source that she could use her divine skills on without having to worry about frying anything by accident when trying to power it with her divine skill.

Time for attempt number two.

Should be able to hold the portal open longer this time, Realm Gate's level and my pool of divine power have both increased. Let’s do this!

Amara prepared her laptop and phone, before she cast Realm Gate and a small golden portal the size of her hand opened next to the table.

Amara lowered the phone through the portal via the cable, holding it steady as she watched her laptop screen. After managing to get a positive mark that she had internet connection, she went onto the web.

Yes! I have the internet on my side now!

But it was slow.

What the hell? Even mobile internet isn’t supposed to be this slow.

Amara went to a website that checks the speed of her connection, and was astounded.

0.38 Mbps?! 5000 ms?! What the hell!

This is almost as bad as when my parents used dial-up!

“What’s wrong?” Ezme asked as she saw Amara’s confusion.

“The connection is slow as hell. I don’t know why.” Amara frowned as she explained.

“That might be the time difference.” Ezme said in contemplation.

“Time difference?” Amara asked in confusion.

“Yeah. Worlds with mana experience time faster. As you are to only have a thousand years on you, you will experience time at the same rate as those on Teyrin.” Ezme tilted her head. “You didn’t know?”

“No, I didn’t...shit!” Amara realized that her divine power was running out and pulled on the cable to bring her phone back.

However Amara suddenly felt that the cable became easier to pull up and the cable’s end appeared with no phone attached just before the portal closed.

No! My baby!

“Dammit!” Amara sighed and put her elbows on the table as she rubbed her eyebrows with her fingers.

I’ll get it later. It shouldn’t be broken as I left it on the ground, but I wonder if I can find it again.

“So how much of a time difference is there?” Amara eventually asked as she looked at Ezme.

“About one to a hundred.” Ezme chirped cheerfully.

“...So for every year on Earth, a hundred pass on Teyrin?” Amara asked.

“Yup!” Ezme replied.

“Damn. Those websites don’t even buffer the whole vids anymore!” Amara exclaimed dejetedly and let a long sigh.

Suddenly a realization dawned on Amara.

“Wait! So instead of waiting a week for a new episode of my favourite anime, I have to wait TWO YEARS!?” (Amara)
