Dark Moon Third Arc (Fallen Heart) - 110. Pearl Gate City IV

As the antidote neutralized the air, the royal couple continued their journey to the city hall. Although Angel originally planned to go alone, he finally went with Rose after she said her wish to pay respect to the late Major Bernard.

Once again they walked through the empty streets. Angel's hand gripped hers tightly, trying to lighten the guilt that was eating away at her heart. Although there were no tears streaming down her face anymore, her gloomy expression already showed her feelings clearly. Yet he couldn't say any words to soothe her.

After a few minutes of silence, Angel finally spoke.
"Rose... Should we come back early?" They weren't far from the main square yet, so this shouldn't be a problem. In addition, Angel could use his Teleportation skill to go to the city hall later.

"It's fine. I already said I want to pay respect to the late Major Bernard," she said. Her voice sounded a bit gloomy due to her emotions. Even though she tried to take her eyes off the corpses around her, in the end, she kept catching the gruesome sight. Still, that didn't stop her from accompanying Angel.

Angel took a deep breath. Somehow he felt bad since he couldn't carry her with his Teleportation skill.

"Fine." Since she was stubborn about this, he decided to let it go. But that didn't mean he was going to let her suffer like this. He already had a backup plan in his head.

After another torturous journey for Rose, a white mansion entered their view.
"Just a warning. What you see in that building will be worse than what you've seen along the way. Please prepare yourself and tell me if you are on your limit," he warned.

Pearl Gate City's new year's eve usually concentrated on the square and hall. But since the city was growing rapidly, Major Bernard decided to make a few changes on the last new year's eve. Instead of the square, he decided to use the city hall's courtyard and the hall for the party.

Although Major Bernard still ordered to set the table of snacks and food in the square, the party concentrated more on the city hall. Besides, everyone could watch the fireworks better from there. So it could be said that the city hall was the worst place of all since the death concentrated there.

"I understand," she replied. Although she wasn't sure, she could deal with it.

As they got closer, Rose began to understand what Angel said. The gates were wide open. The yard was full of corpses more than the streets and the inside showed the same.

From the corridor to the hall, all of it was filled with bodies. It even got in their way so Angel had to use his dark power to make their way. Due to respect, they didn't want to step on those bodies.

The horror sight made Rose's legs weaker. Her stomach churned and she could feel excruciating nausea. Her head was spinning. Her mind and heart screamed to get out of there since she was at her limit, but she decided to keep going. Even so what she could do was close her eyes and hold on to Angel, letting him lead the way.

Realizing Rose's pale face, he decided to speed up their pace so this nightmare could end quickly.

As soon as they arrived in front of Major Bernard's body, Angel stopped in his tracks.
"Just close your eyes, I won't be long," he said. He released his hands and knelt on one knee in front of the corpse.

Realizing they had arrived, Rose slowly opened her eyes. Her sight immediately caught an old man's corpse and Angel was praying in front of him. Then she looked around. Luckily, this room wasn't as bad as the other rooms.

She came to him and knelt beside him, praying with him.

After a while, Angel opened his eyes and took the Major Bernard badge and his handkerchief as a memento for the twins.

"How can you be so calm?" Rose's voice came from his side. She was shocked by Angel's composure to face all this after the tragedy happened. If that happened to him, she might lose her composure and break down in frustration.

"I didn't." He turned to her.
"Do you think, why did I decide to declare war and attack the three kingdoms?" And almost killed her, but he couldn't say it.
