Angel's eyes moved side to side to read everything. Especially since the book also told how the ancient dark king fell in love and how the war ended. Somehow, it gave him another perspective on that evil king. It also made him understand Lucian's worries and fears if he would end up with the same tragic fate since he had the same power and fell in love with a woman from the same family. Not to mention he brought her to Euphorion by force just like what happened in the past.
The difference was, Angel had met Rose when he was still the prince of Asteria and they both fell in love because of that. Maybe… If they met in the last war or he hadn't cleared up the misunderstanding between them yet, he would have the same fate as the ancient king.
Angel turned another page. A map entered his sight. It was the old map of Andromeda Continent complete with the dark king castle in the middle of the mountain. The map was a little blurry and everything was only roughly drawn. According to the map, Andromeda did not have as many towns and villages as now.
Unconsciously, Angel traced the map with the tip of his fingers. His forehead wrinkled. His eyes stared intensely at the map. A feeling of melancholy welled up in his heart. He could feel the crystal inside him churning. His pounding heart was filled with mixed feelings that he had never felt before.
"Why are you mad?" he muttered. That was the question for the crystal.
Although he wasn't sure of what he felt he could feel clear anger from there. It was something different than what he was used to feeling. The crystal was usually filled with killing intent. A mindless desire to avenge someone or something he didn't know. So it ended up demanding him to kill everyone around him. Just like how he lost his mind in the Death Forest. But this time… he didn't feel it. Only anger and frustration.
His finger kept moving on the map. His head held many questions about the origin of the crystal and why it was looking for him. Was it because he wanted to curse Reinhart's descendants? And who was the shadow? Was that the dark king's follower? But the dark king died hundreds of years ago. If he wanted revenge, why did he just make a move? Why after several generations had passed? Wasn't it too late?
As his fingertips touched the dark king castle on the map, the pain shot through his chest. It was the same pain when he received the crystal from the shadow. It wasn't that intense. Still, it made him shift his hand to his chest and grip it tightly.
He gasped in shock and grimaced in pain. A flash of an image of a man dressed in black screaming in frustration flashed through his head. Even if it was just a glimpse, he could catch the tears and the clear heartbreak on his face.
Angel's heart beat faster. Even two drops of tears dripped from his eyes.
"Why are you crying?" he muttered. The uneasy and melancholy feeling enveloped his heart. He was suffocating with just that unclear image.
Pain…
Broken heart…
Sadness…
Frustration…
His heart throbbed in the pain of a broken heart. The anger and feeling of betrayal welled up in his heart. And he could feel the intense longed for love. It was similar to how he felt when his family betrayed him. Or maybe, that was the reason why all the misfortune came to him? Because the crystal wanted him to feel the same pain as what the dark king felt in the past.
He believed that the crystal had something to do with the ancient dark king. Or maybe… It was the dark king himself. Maybe his soul fragments. Maybe his power. But the question was, why did it come to him? Why did the crystal choose him?
There were three princes of Asteria when the accident happened. His uncle, Ilex, and him. Not to mention his father, the king himself. Based on logic, shouldn't the crystal get a lot of benefits if it took his father's body? Yet the shadow chose to kill him. The shadow mentioned that he was looking for Angel and stated his name clearly. He didn't even say anything about Ilex.
