Third Arc (Fallen Heart) - 169. The Messy King

Unfortunately, again, another knocking sound interrupted their intimacy. Which was followed by a sound from outside.

"Your Majesty, I brought you your report." A male voice came from behind the door. It was Frost's.

A long exhale came out of Angel’s mouth.

“Time's up. I have returned to work.” There was a clear sense of disappointment in his tone since he still wanted to play around with Rose a little longer, even though he admitted… It was a dangerous game.

Reluctantly, he let go of his grip on Rose and got off the bed.

“Come in, Frost,” he ordered.

Due to his order, Frost entered the chamber. His gaze fell on the king who was walking to the sofa as his hand closed the door behind him. He looked a little messy compared to usual. Especially since the sun was already high in the sky.

Angel's shirt was a bit messy. His usually neat hair was completely messy. He hadn't even washed his face yet. For sure, Angel looked much better than yesterday. His face looked brightened.

“You look better, Your Majesty,” Frost greeted. His feet stepped onto the sofa.

"I am," Angel replied in a relaxed tone. He sat down on the sofa, still feeling the remnants of pleasure coursing through his veins. He couldn't help but think about Rose and how he wished he could stay with her all day. But duty called and he had to attend to it.

Frost noticed the change in the king's demeanor and couldn't help but wonder what had caused it. He quickly pushed the thought to the back of his mind, however, as he pulled out a stack of papers from his blazer.

Rose, who was still lying on the bed, watched as Frost approached the king with a small stack of papers in his hand. She couldn't help but be curious about the report since she was sure it related to the rebels. So she decided to get out of bed and joined their conversation.

As she got out, Frost’s eyes could catch Rose’s shy expression.

“I see why,” Frost said, handing over a sheaf of papers to Angel. The report that he had been tasked with delivering to the King. There was a trace of sarcasm in his tone.

“We haven’t done anything. She only made sure I’m okay.” Angel took the papers and began to flip through them, his eyes scanning over the words as he absorbed the information. Frost stood quietly, waiting for the king to finish before speaking again.

"We have received reports of increased activity from the rebel groups on the border, Your Majesty. They seem to be ready with their plan.”

That report made Rose’s heart skip a beat. Her blood boiled in her veins. It meant they would execute the plan soon and she would meet Ivetta again.

Angel's brow furrowed at the news. It was faster than he predicted, but it seemed Ivetta and Ilex couldn’t wait any longer.

“Then we have to get ready to execute our plan,” he ordered. What he had to do was finish all his tasks here as fast as possible.

Frost nodded, understanding the gravity of the situation. "Yes, Your Majesty. I will inform them immediately." Frost bowed his head before turning and leaving the chamber, the door closing softly behind him.

Angel let out a sigh and leaned back on the sofa, closing his eyes once more. There was undeniable tension within him since he had to bring Rose with him and also a strong desire for revenge. This opportunity should be the best time to end his long competition with Ilex. But deep inside his heart, there was also guilt since killing Ilex meant he would take one of Ophelia’s happiness.

Rose watched him for a moment before slowly walking over to him, her bare feet making no sound on the soft carpet.

She sat down beside him, placing a hand on his shoulder as she leaned down. "What’s wrong?" she asked softly, her voice filled with concern.

Angel opened his eyes and turned to look at her, a small smile spreading across his face. "I'm fine," he assured her, his hand reaching up to cover hers. "Just a lot on my mind."
