Chapter 3 - The commander.

We ran away along the street by the canal.

Kiwi could phase through anything, so trade stands, carts, horses or other means of traveling and people weren't really in the way.

We arrived at the market square, there were all kinds of stands put up in rows.

it was a big square-space, which the name implies, there were all kinds of people from all the races.

Children dragging their parents,

"look over here mom, it's glowing crystals!" a kid said,

While the mom replied

"yes yes, we can't afford it but it sure is pretty"

some crying they wanted something

"but I want one" and sobbing.

and all kinds of salesmen

“Hey ladies, want to buy some quality jewelry?”

“Over here, the best bread in town!”

“Come check our high quality swords and daggers, perfect for defence!”

"We got summoner keys, want a cute spirit, ladies?"

We heard quite a few sales pitches as we rode through the area.

Gently declining them.

“I want fresh apples, what about you Yuna? I know a great stand further down by the northwest corner.” I said looking over my shoulder to see if she registered what i was saying at all.

“sure sure. get me some lemons. and an orange.”

she replied, mumbling with the nose in her pad.

"alrighty"

I stopped by the stand.

"Hey, Nana! Apples for the day as usual?" Ragnar said,

the fruit salesman I usually go to, an average human by the looks of it.

But he had a tail, but I wasn't sure what kind, never asked or looked closer since I didn't wanna be rude.

he tried to hide it but it was sort of obvious it was a tail he tried to hide.

I couldn’t help to notice and look at a kid looking poorly dressed standing by the side of the house next to the stand staring at the fruit. I hummed for myself then looked at Ragnar, smiled and said

"yes, I'll go for a kg! then give me a few lemons and an orange for Yuna"

"alright, that'll be 73 imperial credits," he said as he packed a bag for me.

I took out my wallet from my bag and handed it over to Ragnar.

"Kiwi is looking well as usual" he said with a smile and scratched her under her chin then fed her a manapear.

A mana fruit is a fruit that is made up of magical force, spirits usually like to eat them,

they’re grown on a unique sort of tree that kinda grows magical energy basically and it forms like fruits.

"Yes, she's a good girl," I said, laughing.

"always healthy, but you have a good day, and be careful! ill cya around!"

"You too, have a wonderful day Nana! Oh and you as well Yuna!" he said and waved while smiling.

We slowly rode to the poor kid that was staring.

"hey, here kid, catch" I threw two apples for him.

He caught them and looked at me surprised.

"take care kid!" I said, smiling at him as we took off towards work, it was up north in block 4, centered in the North West part of it.

we were back on our way. The market square was a few roads behind my house to the east. Kinda centered on the west part of block 4.

I was currently employed as a peacekeeper as they called it, in the magician squad.

We're basically a military unit, but the aim is to do work police can't handle.

Eliminate dangerous mutants slinking in, monsters of different kinds or deal with extremely dangerous humanoid crime, like say a very dangerous warlock or something like that.

We also deal with monsters that get dangerously close to our border and sometimes do escorts.

But we're of course allowed to help in most situations on patrol.

Sad to see there's a lot of problems with poverty in town, but I'm not quite sure what to do about it.

The fog was quite thick, so traveling at this speed wouldn't have been possible if it weren't for Kiwi's phase walking.

But it was a charmy part of the town we lived in.

Block 4 as it was kinda unimaginatively named as it was the fourth block that was built.

I waved and smiled at a few friendly faces on the way.

"what about an enchant that both adds more magic to your pool, amplifying it Aaand on top of that, adds warmth and blocks wind!" Yuna mumbled,

she'd taken out her notepad writing calculations and stuff I didn't understand.

"sooo, the same I've got but good for stormy weather?" I aid, sgiggling a bit.

She was head of research and development in enchants in the peacekeeping department.

"Well, now I've nailed it so it's not just adding warmth in any weather, it's more like a climate control, making your body keep the desired temperature at all times!" she said,

sounding super excited and thrilled.

"and hopefully I'll make it controllable.." she mumbled..

We were closing in on the entrance.

Passing a flying patrol going out to patrol the blocks above us.

3 dragon-horses ridden by mana archers, none magic casters carrying tanks of magical power as a backpack that's filled beforehand with magic power and enchanted.

Then in this case we've connected the tanks to a pair of enchanted gloves, making them able to power up arrows with magical power as the enchants draw magical power from the tanks.

Not easy getting your hand on good dragon-horse riders, so you work around that.

"sooo, let me guess, you're going to make it on a miniskirt or minidress for me?" I said sarcastically

She didn't respond, she kept writing, giggling a bit pervy with a big smile.

"it will make room for other things on your other garments, I think I've managed to boost the amplifier part now with my new idea, I just need some materials from storage"

"You're hopeless, good thing you're cute" I said and sighed but giggled at it a bit afterwards.

We were at the gate.

A big metal made door with Stuart on the morning guard pass.

A quite big well trained muscular wolfman armed with a 2 handed sword which he probably could use as a 1 hander.

He only knew how to use fire magical energy and only a handful of spells, but he was a great fighter.

Quite a tall guy too, easily 200cm, maybe taller.

Armored on the chest and legs too, but he liked having his arms free. Heavily enchanted with defensive things made by Yuna of course.

"Good morning Nana and kiwi! All good today?" he said.

They waved at the gatekeeper who sat in a tower just by the gate with heavy barriers around it, signaling to open, he took his hand over a tube of sorts beaming in an electrical current with his hand and the gate slid open.

"yes yes, we're all good thanks! I got Yuna on the back too, she's in the zone though.

All good with you and the wife as well Stuart?" I said, smiling.

Kiwi howled a happy sounding howl as a yes and licked the guard

He laughed, scratched kiwi behind her ear

"Yes we're good, she just finally found employment too. Someone got laid off over at the slime factory. Not the best job but it's work!" He replied.

following up with a

"gooood girl kiwi, keeping nana safe" as he scratched her a final time,

then waved us in as Gary up in the tower was looking at us with a grumpy face.

"better go in, grumpy Gary is getting impatient" he said and laughed, then whispered in a loud way but low enough so Gary definitely didn’t hear him

"don't mind him, taking his duty way too seriously" with a smile on his face.

"hehe well, I'll cya Stuart, have a nice day!" I said.

"you too nana, and you Yuna!" he replied and blinked at me with his right eye.

Trying to be flirty I guess, Yuna is pretty damn cute.

"mhmm nice nice" Yuna mumbled with her nose in the notepad.

We rode in, Gary sent a new beam in the tube and the door slide shut.

Yuna jumped off and walked over to the workshop entrance directly to the right mumbling to herself.

"Yuna, pervert all the time until she goes into work mode" I said laughing and sighing.

I got off kiwi,

"Shrink down and come along Kiwi" I said.

she shrunk down and flew up and sat on my right shoulder.

The courtyard was quite big I guess. Green grass partly and concrete bricks laid out on most of it.

Some training equipment down at the end to the left for melee fighting, 3 rings. Then the cafeteria and dining hall next to those, or dead ahead as you enter the grounds. A shooting range directly to the left of us coming in with enchanted targets.

Self repairing unless completely demolished, which I've accidentally done practicing some fire blasts once.

Got a scolding from the commander at this post then a lecture in self control.

I do like her though.

There are also a few Yuna can sort of program to act in different manners on demand.

Like, strike back in different ways, dodge, move etc.

She also does those for the melee dummies so they can get more advanced practice.

The pervert is quite valuable with other words, just a matter of time before she enchants rope somehow and uses it on me.

I sigh at the thought and laugh to myself.

I moved towards the mission room, waved at Bob who was on his way out in a hurry, he waved back and yelled

"hi, can't talk now, mutant came out of nowhere in the Central part of block 3, talk to you later" and smiled.
“Alrighty” I yelled back as I waved with a smile and kept walking.

I entered the mission room where I'm usually assigned a daily mission if there is anything urgent or specific, or I'm assigned training recruits or other personnel or just put on patrol.

A few times I've actually had lessons at the central academy for kids, which is tricky but fun.

I entered the room, the door further down from where Yuna entered, same building but different rooms.

I saw Herod over at the mission board looking scratching his head.

He was a Lizardman at about my height, a bit taller. I'd guess 180cm or so, but quite huge, all muscles, if he’d get a tiny bit wider he wouldn’t fit through the front door.

The mission board was over to the left of the room from where I entered, the commander's desk was in the corner to the left.

The board covered a huge part of the left wall and was magically updated with events, sort of a map where dots glowed in different colours depending on what happened.

And you got a window with info if you looked at a dot in your field of vision, it was all connected to this magical power generator that me and Yuna figured out.

Then there were tables, chairs and a few couches for meetings and things.

A smaller kitchen area to the right with a coffee maker, love my coffee, and a changing room down to the right corner that had a large bathroom with showers and all.

"Hello Herod, having a good day?" I said out loud.

he pointed over to Lilith, our commander and coughed.

"aaaand good morning Commander Armstrong!" i said with a super high pitched happy tone.

Lilith Armstrong.

The commander over block 3 and 4.

Kinda short and very slim, maybe 165cm-ish tall, 78,5cm chest, 67cm below boobs, 60cm waist and about 74cm ass. Insanely strong catwoman with brown glowing eyes and black cat fur.

I've only seen her fight with her hands, but she is supposed to be an expert with swords.

She carried two blades sheeted on her back at all times.

"sooo why are you an hour late today then Nana?" she said as she walked slowly towards me.

“10 isn’t the same as 9 you know that right?” she said, staring at me with a look on her face like she was teasing me.
“Well. I.. I … we.. We were drinking last ni-” she interrupted me, pushed me against the wall and slammed her hand beside me, getting up real close. It kinda sent shivers down my spine.

“Drinking huh?” she yelled in my face.

I dropped my to-go-cup which was nearly empty, she caught it with her left hand without looking and kept staring at me.

She was terrifyingly amazing at all times somehow.

And I couldn’t help but kinda drop my jaw as she just caught it like nothing.

Her reflexes were unmatched as far as I knew. What good is magic against someone who’d put you down faster than you can cast? hah.

“So you’re late because you went drinking last night?” she said snarky.
“Well, Yuna was messing with me again, I woke up tied down..” I was looking down as I replied.

She grabbed my arm, checked it thoroughly.

“I believe you, I can see the marks” She said, almost bursting out in laughter as she said it then she laughed at me on her way back over to her desk.

I let out a breath of relief.

She seems to enjoy hearing what weird stuff Yuna gets up to.
Herod chuckled to himself over by the board.

I waved my hand and sent a magical wave to slap him in the back of his head.

*Smack*

“ha-ha-ha” I said loudly and sarcastically as I gave herod the finger.

“Sorry, but it was fun” Herod said, chuckling.

“Well, I'll go and put on the uniform. Got anything for me today?” I said as I walked towards the changing room.
“You’ll just be patrolling through all of block 4, then call it a day.” Lilith said as she looked through some paperwork.

Then reached for her gigantic cup of coffee where the word “BOSS” was written across it in capital letters and took a big gulp.

“Alrighty then” I said as I opened the door to the changing room.

“Oh, and take Herod with you, he can’t seem to find something to do.” lilith added.
“Okay then, be ready in 10minutes, I'm just changing and taking a coffee” I said, sounding way more tired than I intended.
“Roger, i’ll put on a fresh pot and go grab my gear” Herod replied in a serious tone.

The door closed behind me.

I went up to my locker and opened it.

We had rows of metal cabinets, all enchanted so only the owner could open them.

If you tried to open one that wasn’t yours, Yuna had made sure together with my magic to enchant them so you were frozen in place until I or the commander could get there to dispel the effect.

Never know.

The work outfit was a plate vest forged for each of us to fit our body shapes, with the logo for the peacekeeper forces printed across the whole thing, we had to have it on top of our clothes.

“P.K”

Outfit otherwise was up to everyone what they felt they wanted to wear.

Yuna had enchanted my vest with several things.

One was that it weighed basically nothing, since strength wasn’t one of my stronger sides so to speak..

haha..

the second one was that it fatigued anyone that hit me in melee with enough force that it would inflict me harm, how fatigued the attacker would get was dependent on what level the attacker was of course.

But most normal people would just fall to the ground and be out of breath.

It also was indestructible by physical and magical force, up to a point of course.

But that’s as much as she’d figured out to squeeze onto it so far for us. Oh and the enchants she does wouldn’t work if someone it wasn’t intended for used the item, which is something she does for everyone.

The other guys didn’t have the “Weighs nothing” enchantment though and picked something else.

Like Herod instead had it enchanted so that he couldn’t be magically debuffed, to a certain degree.

If the caster were higher level than the enchant it wouldn’t work of course, but Yuna was pretty good, or high leveled.

If i’d try to “debuff” him the enchant wouldn’t hold of course, hehe.

“Pretty thing, fits like a charm and shows all my curves” I mumbled to myself, a bit happy.

Turned around and looked in the mirror, stretching my arms above my head and spun around.

Miniskirt really does look good on me, Yuna doesn't lie about that.

“You still got it.” I mumbled to myself.

I went over to the bathroom, summoned up my makeup bag at the sink by the bathroom mirror, which I had stored in a, how to put it..

Magical space I created, which technically could hold just about anything.

So I had a little bit of everything stored in there in case I needed it.

There was no air though in that space, no time, no nothing.

It was a void, a vacuum.

Which was good because things didn’t deteriorate there.

I came up with it when I was 6 and didn’t have enough room in my backpack to get everything I wanted to bring into it when I was going to school.

My parents were just looking at me, jaws dropped.

“Nana, what did you just…” my mom said.

“I needed to store my Teddy and an extra dress incase I get dirt on mine.. and also I thought it’d be good to have pencils of all colo-”
she interrupted me, “Did you just create a magical storage?”
I looked confused at her.

“Yes I think so, I just thought I needed more space to carry my things and it opened up.” My dad laughed out loud at it.

My mom sighed.

“That's our little girl, you’re a genius Nana and you’re gonna go far” she said and kissed me on my forehead while I looked very very confused.

Then dad interrupted with "ready to go to school then?"

  1.

Good memories.

I somehow use time and spatial magical energy.

But I could use almost all elements and categories of magical energy, I was just born with an unlimited potential level of magical power.

To be clear, I didn’t come up with the storage magic spell thing, I just meant it as I found out how to cast it.

That type of spell has been used by highly skilled magical users for a long time now.

Think it was discovered by a guy called Daimon a few hundred years ago according to what I learned in school at least.

“I miss you mom and dad.” I said to myself looking in the mirror.

Dried a tear off.
Took out my mascara, eyeliner and brow pencil.

Held my hand over it, and tada, my makeup was done.

I usually just applied it with magic to get it done perfectly.

It’s like.. Teleporting. Maybe.

I pick the material in front of me and sort of, teleport it to where I want it.

It took a loooooooot of practice to perfect it though…

a lot...

I packed it up, threw it back into my storage space.
“All done. Just a quick pee before heading out.” went into the stall, did my thing, snapped my fingers to dry myself off.

and headed out into the mission control room.

Herod stood by the coffee maker, smacking it.
“The coffee is basically done, I filled you a cup, just waiting for the last few drops to top mine off” he said.

"Thanks! That's nice of you! Not sure smacking helps though" I said cheerfully and went over and grabbed the cup.

He poured himself his own, put on the lid.

"I imagine it pours down quicker," he chuckled.

"Anyway all ready now!" he gave a thumbs up.

He was dressed in a red hoodie, then the vest on top.

Armour out on his arms and plate armor around on his legs with a pair of black linen pants under.

"Let's start by going south, combing the middle canal then." I said and smiled at him.

"Yeah get on it already you lazy kids" Lilith mumbled by her desk.

We turned towards the door, covering our mouths as we giggled a bit at her remark.
