“I know you’re worried about me and that’s why you came to Neptune and found the notebooks and this message,” Gideon said, his face stretched over the wall. “I have a favor to ask you.”
“Anything,” I said. It had been so long since I’d last heard his voice and even longer since I’d seen his face. My eyes went blurry. A tear rolled down my cheek.
He chuckled and scratched the back of his neck. “Well multiple favors.” I recognized the couch he was sitting on. He’d recorded the message in this very room. “The first is that you hide the notebooks. Memorize them and burn them if you must. I would have done them myself but I put too much effort in that research to let it go to waste.”
“I will,” I said.
“I guess that makes me sound selfish. That research is what got me into trouble in the first place.” He sighed. “My second request is that you stay close to Kai. I know that asking you to go home where it’s safe won’t be effective and I know you two don’t really get along with each other, but he’s the only one I trust with your safety. He won’t be able to protect you from everything but he will do what he can and that’s the most I can ask for.”
“That I can’t promise,” I said.
“He probably didn’t believe you when you told him your suspicions. That’s why I sent those items to you and not him. I knew you would come looking for me. Don’t worry about trying to convince him anymore. Let me do that. I’ve recorded a special message for him personally. Once he comes here and gives the same command, Melody will play it for him, but I’m going to have to ask you not to listen in. There’s something I have to talk to him about personally, privately.”
I didn’t want to agree to that but Gideon must have his reasons.
“Aster, be careful. This message is bound to get you even more worried than you were before but you have to promise me that you won’t do anything rash until you get a message from me.” He leaned closer to the camera. “You have to listen to me Aster. Be careful. No picking fights because of any rumors you hear of the past. No making unnecessary enemies. Don’t look into this. Forget about those notebooks if you must. I don’t want you to get hurt.” He held his head in his hands. “I’m not even sure what I’m dealing with. I could just be paranoid. If that’s the case, you’ll probably never see this or I’ll return soon after you get this message.” He raised his head. There were tears in his eyes. “I want to come home but not enough if it means you’ll be in danger. Stay out of this. You have to stay out of this.”
I clenched my fists. “I’m sorry Gideon. I can’t fulfill those requests. I’m going to find you and bring you home, no matter what it takes. I swear it.”
END OF EPISODE 1
A/N: Thank you for reading until the end of the first episode. I'd really like to know what you think of it so far. Episodes 2-6 are already finished so no worries about the entirety of the first season. In fact, they're already published on Amazon but I plan to post everything here as well. Let me know what you think and onwards to episode 2. I have a lot planned for this series and so many twists and reveals coming up.
