“No!!! This can’t be! This can’t be happening! Why me?! Are my eyes deceiving me?”

That’s what the Marcel, a blond haired, bright blue eyed ten-year-old country boy, an orphan who also happens to be our protagonist thought when he was the biggest notice was dropped on him by the world. He didn’t know exactly what he was feeling but you could say that his feelings carried positive vibes. His dream has always been to be a valiant protector of the people, the absolute symbol of justice and all things good in the world, a hero.

His wish was indeed heard by the world and acknowledged, although, it came with a few surprises. His wish was granted a few months after he turned 10. He got the title of Hero that he had always wanted, the one who slays the demon lord and brings peace to the world, but what he didn’t know that there was more to the title than just being a hero.

This hero, Marcel also gained the subtitle of Demon Lord’s wife and him, being overzealous over the fact that he was now the hero totally forgot to look closer to discover the title of Demon Lord’s wife. He made the worst blunder of ignoring something that’d define his whole life after meeting the demon lord, the supposedly ‘source of all evil.’

Marcel who didn’t notice his mistake trained hard. Being the hero, good luck and fortune came his way quite often and he relished in the cliches a hero would obtain. He entered the top adventurer school around at the age of eleven and was at the top of his class from his first to the third year there. He also gained numerous skills along the way too.

His luck was so great that it could be regarded as a skill. He obtained a mighty sword, Frostbite, a legendary sentient sword who’s said to be the most powerful of all blades. A few slashes from Frostbite’s blade was enough to freeze nearly anything solid, an amazing weapon for the future hero. His magic was also top-notch. Casting spells in seconds with the addition of the hero cliche of being able to use almost all the elements. Fire, Water, Earth, Wind, Light and Darkness. He was proficient in all of these except for the darkness element. He was after all the hero and have you ever heard of a hero being the master of darkness?

Since he was the hero, his voice was enough to make all wrong-doers falter, make all naysayers approve anything he said, get all the girls to fall madly in love with him, although he was a bit dense in that department and never paid any attention to such matters, so all the advances of the multiple girls who tried to gain his love and affection were foiled.

He was handsome, hardworking, kind, a bit dense and let’s not forget the Demon Lord’s future wife but he didn’t know that, yet.

He woke up one morning and decided to go to the rumored, “Dark realm.” The realms where only the demon’s live. The dark realm exists in another dimension apart from the human’s and traveling between these two is only possible for the demons and well, the hero whose luck is about to run out.

He was now 16 years old, almost 17, so he decided that now is a good time as any to go slay the symbol of all evil that is the demon lord. He came to one of the rare rifts in space that’s totally inaccessible to anyone except for the hero and of course, demons and used his sword to freeze the edges of space around the rift long enough for him to enter the demon realm. He wouldn’t believe what he saw at the other side of that rift.

Marcel entered the rift with his eyes closed because of the blinding light that is the inside of the rift. He opened his eyes to see something break-taking, a land that was totally different from what he was used to. He appeared in the totally mind-boggling demon realm.

Floating islands filled the sky, the sky was clear blue, the birds' chirps carry a soothing tranquil melody that you’d want to listen for hours. The air was clean, even cleaner than that of the human realm. It was free of all impurities and brimming with raw magic power. Dragons and other creatures took flight and their flight patterns were like a dance number, making all who saw it look in awe and admiration of the beautiful scene.

Marcel who had always been thought that the demon realm was a grotesque den of horrible monster was stupefied by this realm which could be described as paradise. Every creature, even the air seemed happy and totally void of all worries.

The rift he entered brought him to the outskirts of a forest. The forest was as usual, quite different from what he was used to. He heard voices that came seemingly out of nowhere and the trees were as long as one could imagine. A 100 feet tree was the norm inside this brimming forest.

Strange creatures he hadn’t seen before leapt from one tree to another. They looked like little humans and they were quite silly to look at. Another strange species of animal, a bird that seemed to repeat anything it heard and even huge cat-like creatures with razor sharp tusk that were quite friendly. You wouldn’t believe it from their looks but they were the friendliest creatures Marcel had ever met.

He played with the huge cat creatures for a while and then he continued along his merry way to go defeat the source of all evil.

As he continued along his journey across the forest, he came across these creatures who looked very similar to humans although they were much more beautiful and had a clear distinction from humans.

He saw men and women. They all looked young and extremely beautiful. Some had green hair, others white, silver, blond and even brown. Most of them had long silky hair, man or woman and their faces carried a hint of coldness and apathy in them. They had fair skin and were dressed in green and brown, colors of the forest. He had never met creatures as beautiful as they were in the human world. He had heard tall tales that the demon realm harbored creatures whose radiance could be equal to that of the radiant sun, but he never thought that he’d meet some on his way to the demon lord.

He looked at the creatures, absolutely enchanted and dazed by them to actually do anything. All he did was watch them from afar, although someone did notice him and walked up to him walk and the group took him to their abode.

The beautiful creatures took him to a place where the buildings were among the trees. Some of the building were taller than others but they all had one thing in common; they were all part of the trees themselves. The buildings were made out of wood, leaves and vines but they all carried this an air of coziness. He looked at the building and all he wanted to do was sleep in those houses.

The creatures explained to him that they were elves, creatures of the forest and protectors of nature. As long as nobody tries to harm the forest, they will be warmly welcomed into the embrace of the kind forest. Listening to the elves talk was enlightening and very educational for some like him who had no idea of what he was doing.

He learnt from them that he was now just a few forests and mountains from the city where the demon lord resides. The elves described the demon lord as “merciful towards all the races in the demon realm and hostile towards anyone who dares to harm them.” They also mentioned his kindheartedness and his willingness to give his people anything they desired, although not ever, you know what I mean.

He heard a lot of good things about the demon lord from the elves, albeit, he still refused to believe that the demon lord was some kindhearted softie who didn’t terrorize the people. The source of all evil is still the demon lord to him. All he wanted was to be like the symbol of peace and justice the previous heroes before him were like, so he dismissed anything that’d make his image of the demon lord a weak being.

He stayed among the elves a few days and then he continued along his journey to defeat the ‘evil’ demon lord.
