It was near the end of the year and my life since the games back in Tok had been mostly unchanged still with only going after squid fish. I finally learned the calendar system this society used being the months of Had, Jul, Mor, Mag, Col, Nep, Tok, Ner, Gar, Mar, Av and Lup. I didn’t ask where the names came from even thought I think I knew at least 2 of them, I didn’t need to know. It was now Av 4th and we had just gotten back from fishing and finally Dan told me what new job he had decided to take, back to more mercenary work I thought.
“Okay Lin so soon we will be taking a job with the Osullivan family, I had gotten a letter from them a while ago. I still choose to take it even if I was hesitant about what this job involved, it might get dangerous.” I was told as we sat at the kitchen table still.
“Why, what do they want?” I asked.
“For me to safely transport one of there members to Ventus city for negotiations and a party, I refuse to get involved in politics and power struggles but the pay is great. I wont start working with them regularly if they ask, this single time is fine but I don’t want to be associated with them.” he told me.
“Why do we need to protect this person?” I told him.
“Because there in a disagreement with another faction and it involves the Osullivan’s paying the factory that was contacted by the other faction to not do business with them. And that all happened because they had previously been arguing over something else so decided to do this.” he continued.
“There are factories in other parts right? Why not just go to another city or the island?” I responded.
“Yes we don’t have every factory here but they want this one product that is only made here so they need to work with the Osullivan’s. I don’t know what the exact issue is as the letter was vague and we would be told the essential information if we took the job and right before we head to ventus. I honestly don’t care to know but we will have to listen to it, luckily we wont get told everything as they don’t want us to know to much.” I was told.
“So is there any thing else I need to know?” I then asked.
“2 more, first is how I will speak to you. You already know in pubic or if others are around to call me Master and that I have to say certain things if certain people are around. Well around them I will need to speak to you differently so they don’t find out how close we are, I wont use a happy tone when speaking to you and will talk to you as needed. Same goes for you, just talk casually and act like I only care about you as a tool.” I heard.
“Second thing is as a political family they will be interesting to deal with i think, they wont be nice or humble but wont be unbearable to be around. I’ve never talked with them before so this is a new experience for us both.” he finished and we moved on. I didn’t feel scared but this was making me nervous a little, still I would help as usual.
3 more days had passed and Dan had responded confirming we would take this job, then in only 2 days they responded back. In a week we would pick up our passenger and leave for that place again, I had fun with Dan there but I didn’t want to walk around this time unless it was needed.
I didn’t know what exactly the major details were as the second letter he got still was vague, that wasn't helping my nervousness but nothing I could do right now. I was thinking about having to act different even more than normal around this person, I would handle it fine. I just wasn’t sure if I would hate it by some point or if this would end before that.
