Kathie’s POV

I left her in the room and went to get the medicine, but I found myself standing in the dark room.

Ever since I “accidentally” kidnapped the princess I hadn’t gotten the time to stop and think, my mind was on the brink of falling apart completely, just how long would it take for me to fall apart?

“Ah!”

I let out a sudden scream as I heard someone knocking on my window,  Oriel said something from the other room but there was no time for that, I quietly approached the window.

Who could it possibly be?

As I carefully opened it, something flew in making me fall backward with a thud, it must have been pretty loud as I heard Oriel’s voice call out to me again.

“I’m fine!”

I screamed to reassure her as I got up.

Turning around I saw a beautiful owl sitting on the table, Albert, my pet had come back from delivering my message to mom, he had a letter tied to his feet and was looking at me menacingly.

I stood for a second dumbfounded, before quickly catching up to what he wanted, I shot up and grabbed some of the fish I had bought at the market for him.

I put some in a plate before the unmoving owl, he offered me his feet so I could untie the letter, after I did so, Albert exploded in white mist, it quickly dissipated, and instead of an owl what stood there was a black cat.

My pet was a weird one, a magical shapeshifting creature I adopted in my last year at the witch school, due to his special abilities it was easy to keep him hidden from everyone, a necessity since pets weren’t allowed in the dorms…

He has been my closest companion ever since.

I offered my hand, and he started rubbing his back onto it, seemingly in the mood for pats.

As I lost myself in his smooth fur I forgot my original objective, what reminded me were the coughs I heard coming from my bedroom, I instantly let go of Albert and made my way to the cupboards, among the many flasks there was the one I was looking for.

Quickly passing by a dumbfounded cat I made my way into the bedroom; there I saw Oriel trying to stand up.

She looked worse than before.

“Wha- what was happening in the kitchen?”

She asked sounding out of breath.

I approached to help her get onto the bed, and as I was getting close, she suddenly looked down and threw up the contents of her stomach.

After letting it all out she looked at me with teary eyes.

I cleaned up the floor as best as I could as I listened to her apologize nonstop.

“You’re sick, those things happen, don’t worry about it”

I kept repeating to her that it wasn’t her fault, she was sitting down on the bed after cleaning up her face with the water I gave her.

She was covering her face with her hands, as I was looking at her and thinking about what to say to cheer her up, I noticed she had redness near her elbow.

As I approached to take a better look, she seemed to notice me and got back under the blankets.

She hid again, looking at me with teary eyes.

“I-”

I tried to ask her to show me her arm but decided against it, she seemed to not want me to see her as she hid her entire face below the blanket.

“I am going to leave the medicine here; you should take it and get some sleep”

I heard a faint yes and I left the room stopping just outside the door where she couldn’t possibly see me from the bed.

I heard the hustle of the blanket and the sound of heavy gulping.

“Blergh! It tastes horrible”

It seemed she couldn’t help but voice her complaints…

After I heard a couple more gulps and the sound of her getting back under the blanket, I made my way back to the table where I had left Albert and sat down.

I couldn’t help but let out a heavy sigh and put my head on the table, Albert must have seen something was wrong as he kept hitting my head with his paw, as if trying to pat me.

“Thanks, Albert”

He kept hitting me but this time harder, hard enough that I had to protect my head and get away from him, after massaging the spot I noticed he had the letter in his mouth, I had completely forgotten about it.

I quickly opened it up as Albert made his way to his makeshift bed in the corner of the room.

Thanks very much for the potion, it worked wonders!

Also, it seems you got quite a beautiful “friend” to help you, hope we can meet said “friend” sometime soon!

Why did she put such emphasis on the word friend! What does she mean by that?

The rest of the letter was the usual news about how the family was doing but something at the end caught my eye.

P.S. Love comes in many forms, you don’t have to feel weird by being different from others, mom will always love you no matter what.

What is she thinking writing something like that?

It’s not like I am in love anywa-

As soon as I thought about it an Image of Oriel sleeping peacefully flashed through my head.

There’s no way…

Am I in love with-

My train of thought was lost as I heard a loud thud coming from my bedroom, it wasn’t something heavy since the sound wasn’t that loud, but I instantly shot up from my chair and ran there.

I saw the pillow on the ground due to Oriel moving about on the bed, I quickly got it and carefully put it back below her head.

She let out some grunts but seemed to be still asleep, as I looked at her face now, I felt my chest tighten, I felt the desire to hug her and tell her everything was going to be okay, that her pain would go away soon.

My head was full of conflicting thoughts but looking at her made it all very clear to me.

Oriel was special, maybe I did love her.

But could she ever love me back?

Her eyes half opened suddenly, and she looked at me.

“My wish…”

I held her hand and leaned in closer as she talked in batted breaths…

Hi! it has been a while! sorry for taking so long, life is a weird thing, anyways, hope you enjoyed it and see you on the next one! (Hopefully soon...)
