Kusanagi Elementary School had a garden that was built on its rooftop with many benches for people to sit on.
There were a lot of plants that were cultivated in this roof garden. Such as sweet potatoes, tomatoes, celery, and many others. The plants were neatly arranged so the garden could provide beautiful scenery to look at. These plants were planted by the students themselves with the supervision of their teachers as part of the curriculum.
Aside from its decorative benefits, the roof garden helped with temperature control. The plants could reduce the overall heat absorption of the building, and they could provide food when the harvest season came.
Other than the roof garden, the school had a water tank system that collected and filtered rainwater.
On the rooftop, Akina walked toward a certain direction. She passed the roof garden and went to the water tank area. There, she found Riku sitting on the ground with his back supported by one of the water tanks. For some reason, his facial expression wasn't good. He was sweating a lot despite the cool weather.
It seemed like he ate something bad and suffering from nausea.
"Ah... it's you, A-chan?"
"Your Excellency... What happened to you?"
Seeing the wretched state of her beloved liege, Akina couldn't help but be alarmed. She immediately dropped her bag and fastened her steps in his direction.
Various mangled speculations instantly appeared in her mind.
'Did some powerful demon appear and defeat His Excellency?
Or perhaps, he awakened his latent talent and it went out of control?
Or perhaps...'
Riku could only smile wryly. He looked at Akina's face and could see her worried expression slightly.
As usual, she had a poker face that made her expression hard to read, but he was convinced of one thing.
'Ah, this girl seems to be thinking something weird...
I don't know what she is thinking, but it’s definitely something weird...'
He coughed once and pat her on the shoulder.
"It's nothing... It's just that my throat and stomach feel hot... It’s like when eating Spicy Mapo Tofu..."
Riku said slowly and finished his words with difficulty.
He felt very awful and was not in a mood to speak. Right now, Riku's sense of taste was being assaulted by spiciness. His tongue, throat, and stomach were like they were burning in lava. It was extremely unpleasant.
He took the canned pineapple juice next to him and gulped it down greedily. It was his 4th juice that he drank but the spiciness that he felt still did not disappear.
'This must be Rimu... What the heck is she eating right now...'
Yes, the spiciness that he tasted was from Rimu's Spicy Mapo Tofu.
Perhaps because they were twins, Riku and Rimu's senses were somewhat connected. But this connection should just have a very mild effect that normally both of either side wouldn't notice unless they were paying attention. In fact, it seems Rimu did not notice this at all.
When Riku ate delicious food, the feeling was transferred to Rimu. Though, what was sent was not the taste directly but the feeling of deliciousness itself. And this happened vice-versa.
But now, Riku felt the full brunt of the spice, like getting hit by a burning truck out of nowhere. He couldn't help but wonder what Rimu was eating that made this kind of powerful reaction. Fortunately, there was a vending machine near his classroom and in the roof garden. Or else he wouldn't know what to do.
He felt wronged. This ponkotsu imouto had pitted him into disaster this time.
Akina contemplated after hearing Riku's words.
'Spicy Mapo Tofu...'
From what she remembered, there was no Spicy Mapo Tofu in the school cafeteria. Well, even the cook lady wouldn't be so vicious to give elementary students spicy food, right?
In that case, what Riku meant was something else. That was...
'...Something happened with His Excellency's power. I had seen this scene in a lot of anime.
The burning feeling must be because he had a breakthrough and he is about to reach the new step!
This has to be a good thing!
All that is left is just to give him a quiet place to strengthen his foundation.
Oh, I remember that the infirmary has a soft bed that is good for napping!'
Akina nodded silently.
With this idea in mind, she suggested with a serious face,
"Let's move to the infirmary first. Your Excellency can rest there without any disturbances."
('So you can digest and stabilize your power without obstruction.')
But unexpectedly, Riku refused her suggestion.
"No, this place is fine. There is no need to move."
('There is no vending machine near the infirmary! What would I do if I ran out of canned juice?')
"... I understand, then I will not let anyone come by."
('I will not let anyone disturb your meditation.')
Akina bowed and prepared to leave. Now that she thought again, Riku could have chosen to come to the infirmary in the first place, but in the end, he came here. What did this signify?
If the person himself felt that this place was good for meditation, then perhaps it really was.
And this also meant that he was far more knowledgeable about this stuff!
It was ridiculous of her to preach her shallow knowledge to the great Riku!
But at least, she should make sure that no one would disturb him in the process.
"Uh... Ok?"
Riku nodded, although he wasn't sure why there was a need to drive people away. But he didn't have any room to ponder about it. He closed his eyes, enduring the scorching heat in his mouth.
'Damn it, Rimu, I'll tickle you again later in the bath!'
So, this is the second ''supernatural'' hability we saw. The setting seem to be a world similar to our, but more advanced and some magic unknown by peoples. Akina may actually be onto something.
It might also be the Riiku is actually an alternate Rimu that came back from the future by reincarnation instead of transmigration and lost her memories but not the knack for things & their shared senses might be due to a time paradox
@Solstice1309 I think you might be on to something, it was said that the mother went back in time several times, because she made mistakes. It might be the reason why Riku is so good while Rimu isn't, because she doesn't have said ability but she can go back in time.
@skiterz You mean that everybody in this world is better overall because they have their previous life's experience but lost their memories? Excluding Mikoto and Rimu of course... There may be something here...
@Tgx I only think Riku might keep his previous experience from another timeline(s). I'm a bit doubtful about other people, because they don't seem supernatural so far and still within 'normal' (cough) ranges of intelligent.
@skiterz Hmmm... that would make sense. Mainly because of the blood connection. But this could also be chalked up to their dad being a genius... But I hope these theories give the author some ideas. If he/she wants to branch out that is. But considering the genres which only include 'Slice of life'; I don't think something like this will happen.
