Rimu left her room and hurried downstairs. Her mother, Nekomiya Mikoto, greeted her anxiously.
She was a young woman that looked like in their early 20. Her face was the same as what Rimu remembered before, seemingly unchanged even after 15 years passed.
"Rimu, are you alright? You screamed so loud."
"I am alright Mom. I just tripped but nothing serious happened."
"Is that so... then no problem. Go ahead and eat your breakfast."
"Ye~s."
Rimu walked toward the rice cooker, took a bowl and filled it with rice.
"Itadakimasu~"
In the living room next to the dining room, a girlish looking boy the same age as her was happily playing FF121 Final Fantasy 12 on a PS2. He was Nekomiya Riku, Rimu's twin brother. Rimu ate her breakfast while observed him carefully.
Short black hair, beautiful pair of brown eyes, a lovely face. He was cuter than any girls she’d known.
If she had not seen his pee-pee, she might have mistaken him for a girl!
'Riku, my twin brother... The genius of the century, excels in sports and academics. He obtained a scholarship at Harvard and graduated with excellent marks. Worked in the entertainment industry and became a CEO in only two years.
The source of my envy...
At this time, he was still a shota. Such a carefree life without any worries, unbeknownst to my suffering in the future...'
Rimu gritted her teeth in frustration. Why was there such a big difference between her and him?
They originated from the same womb, born on the same day, and grew up in the same environment. But the results were like heaven and earth. He became successful at life and a champ. On the other hand, she failed and became a chump.
Comparing his talent with hers was like comparing jade and dirt!
Riku noticed Rimu's stare and paused the game. He looked at Rimu.
"What's wrong, Rimu? Why are you staring at me with that angry look? Oh... do you want to play?"
Seeing that friendly look from her brother, Rimu suddenly remembered that she was returned back in time.
'Ah, now that I remember. We are still in a good relationship at this time. The me at this time is still ignorant of the unfairness of the world...
Well, there is no reason to refuse anyway. Might as well play along a bit.'
Rimu smiled and said to Riku,
"Ne~ Riku, let's play together. Co-op!"
Riku was surprised after hearing Rimu's words. Usually she would try to monopolize the PS2 and ultimately, he would yield. Asking him to play together was a rarity.
"Ah, okay." Riku gave Rimu a controller. "What game do you want to play?"
"Hmm, anything Riku decides is fine." Rimu finished her breakfast quickly.
"Then... let's play Song of Night 42Fictional game, does not exists. It can be played by 2 players at once."
Riku switched the game DVD and restarted the console. Rimu took the second controller and sat down. They waited a while until the game loaded up.
Song of Night 4 is a game about the dark side of Metropolis. The characters, Jean and Kyrie, are senior high school students involved in illegal business. Both characters have unique skills and combat techniques to achieve their objective. The players control these two characters in their respective stories.
In multiplayer mode, the second player can help in complete the mission by controlling the other character.
Rimu took control of Kyrie and did various test movements.
'It has been so long since I played these classic games. There was PS5, PS6, PS7, XBOX EX2 and Ethereal Engine 3D. in my time, these shitty 3D graphics are... quite nostalgic.'
For Rimu, PS2 or other old consoles are classic stuff. As a person involved in the game industry she had her share with Unreal Engine, CryEngine, or other advanced 3D engines. As such, her standards have become high.
However, she didn't feel any dissatisfaction towards older game. Modern games are focused more on DLC and their micro-transactions and most of their stories are quite crappy. On the other hand, many masterpieces can be found among those older games. Many feature rich storylines as well as a smooth gameplay experience.
The rain outside started to ease up and the clouds began to clear.
The two siblings get along well and played together happily, creating a very harmonious atmosphere. Occasionally they bickered and got into an argument, but in the end, they laughed it off.
Riku: "Hey! What are you doing, Rimu?! Don't go that way!"
Rimu: "This way is faster; we can save 10 minutes on this mission."
Riku: "That's for speedrunning. We should aim at the Grand Master score!"
Both of them played a few games for a few hours.
Mikoto who came back from shopping, looking at them and smiled,
'They seem to get along well. I'm glad.'
"Both of you, it's already late. Stop playing and go take a bath."
She reminded them that the time was already afternoon. The sky has started to dark, signaling the night will come soon.
Hearing their mother's words, the twins stopped their hands simultaneously. Riku was the first one who responded as he walked straight to the bathroom,
Riku: "Okay!"
Meanwhile, Rimu who still hasn't fully adapted with the situation can only sit with a stupefied expression.
Rimu: ... 'Huh? Wait, we're bathing together?'
I just tripped, but nothing serious."
either "but it was nothing serious." or "but nothing serious happened."
she might be mistaken him as a girl as well!
"might have mistaken"
he was successful in his life and become a champ, however she was sunk and become a chump.
"became a champ/chump" though something like "he would be successful in his life and becomes a champ, while she would sink and become a chump." could work too.
Riku seems noticed Rimu's stare
"Riku seemingly noticed" or just "Riku noticed"
Rimu smiled and says to Riku
"smiles and says" or "smiled and said"
Rimu took the second controller and sit down
"sat down"
are a senior high school student
"are senior high school students"
It has been so long I play this classic games
"so long since I played these"
Thank you, fixed as well
The style is quite absurdly Japanese and I'm in love with it. Here is a correction I would suggest (although neither am I a native English speaker).
"Instead, the game from the older generation was more often produce masterpiece, in storyline and gameplay."
1) "the game(s) from the older generation" is a bit redundant (still okay though)
2) "was produce" should be "was produced"
3) "in storyline and gameplay" sounds awkward at the end of sentence
A possible correction would be...
"Instead, many of the older games were masterpieces, in which richer storylines and (smooth) gameplay are featured." or "Instead, many of the older games were masterpieces, where they offer richer storylines and (smooth) gameplay."
I might be a little critical, but if I were to rewrite this...
"Modern games are more focused onto DLC and their micro-transitions, yet most of those stories are quite crappy. On the other hand, many masterpieces can be found in those older games, in which many feature richer storylines as well as smooth gameplay experience."
Thanks for your input.
Actually, I still researching which style should I use on my writing, you might will found I changed the writing style several times.
I would like to have your input too in the following chapters.
@FlyingPirateCat No problem! Style is not a major concern, keep up the good work!
I am currently reading onwards, so I will certainly keep the feedback coming.
In the living room next to the dining room, a girlish looking boy same age with her is happily playing GTA
