  • 3rd Person POV

While within his [Invisibility Zone] Evan look around to see if anyone has noticed his presence. After some time has passed, he heaved a sigh of relief knowing that his entry didn’t caught any attention.

Opening the scroll silently, he look at it in closer look. Due to the hurry, he merely took the scroll using magic from the blue mage hand and scanned it quickly. But now he had time to assess what’s being put on the parchment.

He seemed satisfied by the scroll with the item vanished into his inventory. Sitting down and leaning his body on the wall behind prying eyes, he began to rhythmically breathe in and out as his nerves slowly & steadily calming down after the tense interaction with the blue robed mage.

Opening his eyes, Evan decided on where to go as he stands up and his face & figure immediately changed into what he displayed since he weaved mana to cast the illusion spell.

Stepping out from the [Invisibility Zone], revealing his magicked regal figure to the rest of the mage guild. It perfectly blends in to the students there as most of them are noble descendants.

Arriving at the mage’s archive, several prompts are displayed in front of him. Regarding his entry and what kind of books he could read in the archive.

Due to the effect of [Scroll of Admittance to the Mage’s Guild], you have free access to several spots of the mage’s guild (Novitas’ Branch).

Entering the place, Evan is overwhelmed by a sense of awe seeing the towering books that seem to have consumed the whole place. Since he has a view from bottom to the top, it puts into his perspective on how large the archive really is.

“Incredible! I can see the various size & shape of books displayed on the bookshelves.”

Several mages already sat down in their destinated table & benches reading some books regarding the lore or copying notes for their assignment given to their professors.

The atmosphere of the mage’s archive during the day is quiet but not as tranquil as night-time when Evan’s visited last. There are also hushed whispers, discussion between the students to one another about the latest topic of magic or what lectures they have attended.

“This brought back memories”

He thought while smiling, thankfully his presence is not noticeable knowing many NPCs mages also have nobility background or purely focusing on their studies. Although…

At the corner of his eye, Evan detected several players as well, wearing the official guild’s robe indicated that they have changed their class to [Mage] since it is a free item given to them when they changed class.

Evan’s doesn’t have one since he is regarded as an apprentice. But he did not care much since he wanted to learn a bit more of magic.

Looking around, he found a small section that’s quiet enough for him to scour. Finding several interesting books but there is one that he immediately went towards.

A large brown leather-bound tome, incredibly dusty indicating that many didn’t read upon it. Including players as Evan glances around and see what players are holding on their hand. A thin book with a hardcover, on its cover is an image of a massive ball of fire & the title of [Fire Ball]. There are also other books with different colours but having that type of title.

“That is a spell book…”

Spell Book in the world of ‘Eidolon’ serve as a way for players to learn spells instantly. By opening the book, the spell will be added to their arsenal where they can use it by tapping or using their mind to choose the spell. In doing so, it is remarkably easy for players to learn & use new spells by just ‘using’ the spell books.

They can be accessed by the mage’s archive, when they are regarded as an apprentice or mage of the guild. Evan notice this by seeing that it contain some amount of mana in it.

Although players needed ‘memory’ to equip the spells. Resulting in players only equipping the most effective spells in their arsenal. There are some skills that would increase the ‘memory capacity’ of a player for spells and it is highly sought after for any magic caster.

And it is already common knowledge that a full-caster class, meaning a class that is mainly a magic caster would have higher ‘memory capacity’ compared to hybrid classes.

He sighed, knowing that his way spell casting & ‘memory capacity’ is different compared to the players so he couldn’t use the guides in the net. His way of casting are more similar to NPCs, that is the main reason why he enters the mage’s archive consistently.

Seeing the dusty tome in front of him, he picked it up from the shelf and whisk the dust away from its cover revealing the title of ‘History of Mage’s Guild’. It is remarkably heavy opting to use his two-hands to held it up as he opens the book.

Reading it for a while, the book contents are talking about the whereabouts of leylines in known history of ‘Eidolon’ mage’s guild when it is just a congregation of magic casters.

In their travels they pin pointed the major leylines of the world and in fact, the location of mage’s guild of now are located nearby those leylines as it is the duty of the chief mage in those branches to maintain the leylines or at least preventing it from getting haywire including finding out any stray leylines being created by nature or artificially.

Leylines based on the book titled ‘Leyline’ is a phenomena when large amount of mana flows into a single spot. The creation of leyline can be identified by sudden natural changes or disaster accompanied by a permanent change in the climate. This is different when the leyline is made artificially.

Evan eyes focus on a passage of the book regarding the very first location of the leyline that’s identified by the mage’s guild.

The first location is near Novitas’ lies deep in the [Forest of Darkness] which brought recognition to Evan’s mind remembering the twisted large tree that seems to ooze vile & twisted flow of mana until he fixed it himself.

Turns out the book mentioned that it is created artificially by the Mad Lich, Ichrun during the <Great War> against elves. The chief mage of Novitas have always make sure to not let the leyline goes haywire and spread further than the forest resulting in Novitas’ safety.

“Ah… I just stole the chief’s mage job, I hope I didn’t get persecuted.”

Evan seems to be in deep thought about that since he can vividly imagine the entire mage’s guild just turn hostile to him. He can feel the shiver seeping through his spine before shaking his head thinking ‘they probably wouldn’t recognize me’

Continuing in reading that book, Evan found a piece of information that the archmage & their direct subordinates and pupils are stationed in the capital city of ‘Eidolon’. It brought some reassurance to him in knowing that as he write something in his notepad.

His figure in the archive, is exactly like an apprentice mage making his presence blend in so perfectly well that he went unnoticed. What he wrote in his note pad are the locations of known leylines.

The second location is in [The Azure Sea], a vast beautiful blue ocean beyond Clamshore that’s used for trading routes and in the middle of that ocean is where he can find a leyline. In the book’s quote ‘Most sailors avoid this place as it is prone to massive whirlpools knowing to consume them, earning the nickname field of whirls’

Nodding his head, he continue reading reaching to other pages giving him more info regarding the other leylines.

The third location is in [Diamond Tundra] located in the north, the sublime snow gives remarkable sight to its viewer as it is crystallized & white resembling pieces of diamonds whenever the blizzard that constantly hit the area have rare moments of quiet.

The area is incredibly cold, proven by leaving water for two seconds would freeze it based on the accounts of the books. It also mentioned that no human beings can live there without the usage of magic.

The location of the leyline is mentioned to be vague knowing how difficult it is to traverse the [Diamond Tundra] but they have an approximation. The leyline can be found on the highest mountain peak in the tundra.

That information is enough for Evan to write in his notepad for his advancement quest as he flips the page.

The final & fourth location is in [Sun Glazed Dunes], a massive desert that can be found right on the far east. The book accounted its history as well, mentioning that before the area was lush with greenery & bountiful fruits.

But it is changed a hundred years ago due to the <Great War> leaving only dunes and dry lands. There are peaks as if sand being stricken by lightning and turn into glass that shines upon the sunlight reflecting from it. Earning the name ‘Sun Glazed’, strangely there’s no mentioned of the exact location of the leyline but it is declared within the book that a leyline is there.

While writing his notepad for the information, Evan raised his eyebrows for a second as he recognize the word ‘Great War’ in ‘Eidolon’ in vague memory.

“I’m sure I saw that word somewhere not in this book”

Slowly an image revealed in his mind, a ‘Title’ of a book. Spreading like wildfires he look at the pile of books he had gathered and behold right in that pile. There’s a book called ‘The Great War’

It is a red coloured book with gold embellishment on its hardcover. Evan took it because it is eye-catching as he opened it to begun reading.

The book explained that the <Great War> have a longer name called <The Great War of Races> where demons & undeads from the abyss manages to emerge themselves to the world and wreak havoc. Resulting a massive retaliation from the resident of ‘Eidolon’, even the remnants of them remain in this world.

As he continues to read, his expression seemed concerning as the contents inside it revealed many atrocious things that the demons & undeads have done. The chief of the undead Mad Lich, Ichrun. Once a mortal necromancer that sold her soul to a demon wanting to gain more power to defy gods.

Yet she was defeated by the great mages from different races, during her last breath she unleashed a horrible curse upon the ‘Tree of Life’ of the elves. Knowing that their great magic is a sole threat to the demon king. Resulting in the first & only artificial creation of a leyline in the [Forest of Darkness]

“I see… that’s the lore of this game? We players came into ‘Eidolon’ when the great war have ended. When the world is fairly peaceful”

*Plop* with that, he closes the book and turns to the side toward the time panel. It shows 17:08 PM in-real world.  Knowing that, he stands up from the table and put the books back to its shelves. Even if he’s an apprentice here, taking away a book is regarded as crime. One of the reason why he can see many NPCs mages brought their own book to take notes.

*TAP *TAP *TAP. Series of footsteps can be heard from the entrance with the next one is a loud slamming of the double doors. It brought attention to all the NPCs and Players with the environment within the archive turns quiet.

Revealed on the open doors is a figure of an exhausted apprentice mage as he takes several large intakes of breath. Before composing himself and loudly shouts.

“The archmage is here!!”

In doing so, several gasps and items falling of the tables echoed through the archive with the NPCs started to walk down the floors toward the ground floor. Several already went out from the door in exhilaration and excitement wanting to meet the archmage.

Players too followed the NPC as they grew curious about what’s happening. Several already open up their camera for streaming or capture the moments. Meanwhile, Evan who heard it bead a sweat on his back & forehead.

Knowing the ability of the current Archmage who primarily focuses on Divination, he will most likely to identified Evan’s false identity spell but there’s a side of him that grew curious about what’s the commotion is all about.

He decided to do something, as he used the skill [Summon Mana Core] in doing so, an octahedron appeared adjacent to him and accompanying with it. Is a panel that shows the field of view that the object is seeing.

The commotion continues with the NPCs and Players have mostly came out from the archive leaving Evan behind. He used the ‘Recall’ function as his character is transported to Clamshore’s plaza.

He immediately went to a quiet alleyway while looking down on the Mana Core’s point of view. The core still stays within the ground of the archive. Invisibility to look at but he can peek into it to see the whole place.

Before long, he commanded the mana core to use the skill [Warp]. With that, the view changed into the outside of the archive, into the familiar garden that Evan trekked to the archive. He press the left and right button to spun the camera to see the area.

“Hmmm… its empty”

The garden that’s usually filled with apprentices who’s taking a break from studying now barren. The only noise he hears are the flow of water coming from the fountains. Wondering where they could’ve gone, Evan change the perspective of the mana core like adjusting its view.

Until he look up and see several group of people flying on the sky. He recognizes the robes they are wearing indicating that they are apprentices of the mage’s guild. They appeared to be peeking through the windows trying to find out the archmage.

With a whisk of his hand, Evan activated the [Warp] skill again and his perspective change into a cosy & warm interior. It is deep earthen brown wooden interior is displayed in front of the panel. In there, he can see two figure sitting down.

One is an old man with long white hair reaching to his back wearing equally long robe that have beautiful & complex embroidery. Carrying a thin staff with a bulbous top containing some sort of crystal that gives off a faint golden yellow glow.

Sitting opposite to that old man, is a female figure wearing navy blue robe. Although she’s sitting, her figure is tall, taller than that of the old man. She has light blonde hair that is tied into a bun top and uniquely for her. She has pointy long ears resembling Evan’s common herb [Elves Ear].

She seems to be agitated, but when the onlookers came to peek through the windows. She flicked her fingers as the drapes went down hiding their view from the apprentices much to the students disappointment. The mana core went through unnoticed by them as Evan continue to spy into their conversation.

“So… about the recent changes in the forest, I trust you know what I mean?”

The elven woman asked to her opposite side as the old man nod, even if his wrinkles are numerous. One can see the changes of his expression into deep thought.

“At first, I couldn’t believe at what happened. After further confirmation upon arriving there, I am certain that someone have fixed the leyline.”

She followed back to that conversation while she crunches her face in confusion. Unconsciously, she curls her stray hair while thinking. Before long, the old man replies but he look to the side, directly to the mana core that’s set on it.

 “Ah!”

Earning a yelp of surprise and small gasp from Evan. But the old man figure presumably the archmage return his gaze to his opposition as he speaks.

“Don’t be alarmed, I believe this is a good change rather than an omen of the demonic army rising up. Let the person be, through my vision I didn’t see any danger from them”

It seems that the assurance of that old man, eases the worries of this elven woman as she nod in returns. After that, her lips curved upward remembering something with the old man noticing it. He asked to her.

“Ah… how’s your village?”

Upon being given that question, she smiles as she replied.

“It’s going quite well. I always thought it is just merely a dream. I am sure you know this already, but the flows of mana in the forest have been twisted by that wretched Ichrun!”

She gritted her teeth upon saying that name before composing herself. Then continue her story.

“Our ‘Tree of Life’ have so long be corrupted by that lich’s curse continuously spawning undeads and mutating the creatures in it. Now… its gone, even from here I couldn’t feel the ominous presence”

She stands up from her chair and look at the covered window with a relieved smile, flicking her finger the drape slightly curve to the side revealing a vast viridian expanse. Evan can see it through the mana core, that’s the direction of the [Forest of Darkness]

He look to the other panel that shows time, which slightly jolt Evan from his seat. His mind thought ‘Time goes by so fast! I need to be my best for tomorrow’s event’

Evan knew the whereabout of the plaza in the Clamshore so he logs out near that area knowing that the event mascot will appear at every plaza in any cities.

Coming out from his console, Evan stretch his body for a bit before getting a nice dinner. Finishing it, he quickly take a shower and brushed his teeth before looking at the mirror.

Evan can see the changes, long ago he had sullen look on his face but now he feels happy.

“Hehe… I’m making a lot of progress, Can’t wait for tomorrow’s event”

Hurriedly he move to the bed and fall asleep already setting his alarms to wake up in the morning.
