- I thought you were younger - I stated.

- Ha, I'm an old soul of wisdom - he replied, touching his chest

- and a poet as well. Should I bow before you? -
- only in public Rose, we're just us here, no need for formalities - he laughed
- Thank you very much, sir. I appreciated it since it would be inappropriate with my dress -

- On second thought, I believe you should absolutely bow to me - he smirked

- your highness - I made a small curtsy while maintaining eye contact. Such a pervert.
- What kind of person bows to his enemy? - he laughed aloud

- one of a kind - I told him, arching my brow.
What Roberto didn't realize was that my only goal was to distract him long enough to come up with an escape plan. I didn't have anything planned yet, though.

- nice chit chat – Roberto praised me - I would have loved to be your friend in another life. But, unfortunately, I need your support right now, and I'm pretty sure you won't cooperate since you've been evading me for years -
- I'm a catch - I told him - but where is your other half? - I looked around, expecting him to jump on me shouting "surprise!"
- who?-
-Rocco. What happened to him? -

- dead - he simply stated, emotionless.
- oh - I exclaimed in surprise - sorry for your loss -

- don't act as if you're truly sorry. - he reprimanded

- in fact, I'm not - I grinned

- my brother was caught up in a bad situation - he trailed off

- I'm sure he did . He had the same lust for power as you. you'll end up like him, you know – I told him – but I guess it's better for me this way – I smirked

- so...- Roberto trailed off – Are you going to come with me or are we going to fight, yell, and threaten each other like we always do? I feel a little worn out tonight. -

- You're bedtime has been past for a while, sir, must be your age - I said as I stepped in front of my sister – Why don't we pick up this conversation again at a more suitable time of day. possibly with coffee and a bagel. sounds good ? -

- Not a chance - he said with a laugh.

He snapped his fingers, and soon we were surrounded by a variety of men. Their rotten aura indicated that they were Roberto experiment minions.
I quickly glanced over my shoulder to my sister and said to Roberto - Well, if you want to play so badly, let's play. -

- let's the hell break loose, shall we? - he invited me opening his arms.

- ha – I grinned, my eyes tinting purple – you have no idea how much you're right about that -

he snapped his fingers again and his men rushed toward us. Riley tore his dress and a furry beast jumped over Roberto's men circle and she started to flee the park, her paws pounding hard on the concrete.
- what a lovely beast - Roberto admired her while half of his men began chasing her
- and you'll never be able to have one like us - I told him taking a defensive position.

- I'm working on it - Roberto replied
- and you call this working on? - I asked him, pointing to his men who weren't human, nor shifter, but something in between.
- that's why I need your help -
- I'll never be your puppet - I declared as I charged at his men.

- stand back - he commanded his men.
I stopped midstep, perplexed. why did he prevent them from attacking me?
- go ahead, Rose - he urged me
- what are you doing? - I questioned with suspicion.

- you'll soon see - he said cryptically
I tensed up as I waited and tried to sense what Roberto was planning by feeling the air around me. With my acute hearing, I could hear something mumbling from Roberto's ear, but I couldn't understand what it was saying. had he any earbuds? Suddenly I felt a sharp pain come over my ribbon cage. I curled over myself trying to catch my breath. What was that? I've not been hit yet, so what's going on? I collapsed on the ground, my leg bending upward, broken . I screamed in agony. I could see Roberto smiling through my watery eyes. Was he forcing me to kneel and submit as some sort of sadistic game?

- what the hell? - I muttered while spitting blood
- I'm not doing anything - he said - maybe you should worry about your sister though, aren't you two bond together? -
shit, Riley. Since she had never been hurt during one of our escapes, I didn't think about her or consider that perhaps she was the one in pain. She would always run away and hide until I could catch up with her. She wouldn't be hurt now if I had taken her inside of me while we were at the club. What was I thinking?

- oh God - I heard Roberto complaining - not you again -
As I was about to lose it, I felt someone caressing my back.
- Rose? - an husky voice took my mind off of my distressing thought.
- Adam? - I whispered
- you okay? -
I could see his concern showing. How did he find me?
- my sister - I just said, setting aside my suspicion for my sister's sake.
- what about her? - he inquired while frantically searching for her.
- please - I begged him – I can't lose her again, please -
- Rose - he gently scrolled me - what are you talking about? -
- it's my sister - I said, trying not to scream in agony – please, I need to find her -

- Let's go - he helped me back on my feet - I'll help you looking for her -
- stop him - I overheard Roberto yelling at his men.
All of his men suddenly surrounded us. They were attempting to attack us from all sides. They tried to claw our bodies as they growled at us and flashed their teeth. I wasn't sure if I was in shock or what, but there seemed to be an invisible barrier between us and their blows. I regarded the scene with incredulity. Where Adam was touching me, I noticed that my skin was itching. His body was exuding an excessive aura of power. Was he defending me by thwarting their assault?
- what are you? - I muttered as I stared at him, fending off the black dots that had begun to appear in my field of vision. Just as I was about to lose consciousness, I overheard Adam's collected voice:
- I've got you. -
