In the end, the stone golem remained useless. As soon as I let my control of it wane a bit, namely the moment I saw the dragon creating a mountain sized one, my golem crumbled to pieces. I didn’t really make a real golem, I just manipulated the stone to look similar to one. In the end, it was just a stone held together with mana, no different than a normal rock thrown by someone.

Still, I managed to achieve something quite big for my meager experience with magic. I was proud of myself, and not even a genius catkin showoff could change that. I needed some more practice, that was definitely true, but I was still satisfied with being able to do anything at all.

I’m still curious about what my attribute is though. A bad attribute wouldn’t stop me from using other ones, but it certainly would come with some inconveniences, like increased mana cost when using something opposite to my affinity. I didn’t notice any difference in the amount of mana I used with my spells before, so that probably meant that I didn’t have any of the basic ones.

Maybe I will ask the gods next time we meet, which I’m pretty sure we will. I mean I’m not that far from my next evolution and there’s a slight possibility that something will go wrong again with my skills. I’ll probably need to watch out for some weird paths I could choose if I don’t want to anger anyone up there.

So, we ended up postponing our golem fight until I find a way of making an actual one, not just a movable sculpture that crumbles instantly. That could take somewhere between a couple of years and eternity, so it was effectively excluded from our dungeon trip. We would be long finished with it, or at least dead in this period of time.

In the end we returned to our training without anything fun happening. Well, the training itself was quite entertaining, since it was all about magic, but after a couple of days of repeating exactly the same practice I started getting bored. I think Felicia was bored too, since her flying lessons resumed and she could be often seen in the air after being launched in uncontrollable ways.

I can’t say we didn’t have any progress though, since both of us managed to improve quite a lot since we started, mainly at controlling mana and giving it shape. Our skill levels were increasing in similar pace, which honestly was quite disheartening, since she was raising evolved skill almost as fast as I was raising my lesser one.

Felicia also started playing with her yo-yos again. It was surreal watching her smash boulders with them, and even more when she somehow managed to cast magic through them. She literally used them as extension of her mana to give herself an ability to launch magic from their position instead of hers. This gave her a bit more flexibility in fight, since she could use them to fire something like a surprise fireball at someone’s back when they think they dodged her weapons.

If she learns how to make her yo-yos invisible, then she could use them to cast magic from any point of the battlefield without enemies ever knowing what hit them. But then, if she had an invisible weapon, she could just use it to hit her enemy directly, without the need for wasting mana.

All assuming she could make her weapons invisible, but honestly at this point this wasn’t an “if”, it was “when” question. I felt some relief when I watched her train, the stronger she became, the less I would have to struggle in my fights. Maybe one day, she would carry me through the monster waves herself.

But I can’t become lazy, I have to be stronger than her if I want to keep my owner position. She’s my pet after all, not the other way.

[“Hey little one, I see you’ve made a lot of progress with your magic, so we can move onto the next part of training if you want. After a little test of course.”]

The dragon suddenly came with an announcement. Of course I wanted to learn something new instead doing this repetitive exercised so I agreed instantly.

[“What kind of test?”]

[“Just hit me with your strongest magic, I won’t dodge and you can take your time to cast it.”]

Really? Okay, but remember you asked for it.

I started generating a ball of emptiness, sucking the air out of air bubble and finished it in five minutes. Pulling out the last layer took much more effort and time, but I managed to finish it under half an hour. Thanks to my training, the size of my void ball increased and the time was shortened to the minimal, but it was still far from being useful in battle.

I then pushed it, the tunnel for it to follow created already. In my training I found out I could attach it to things, and when that thing moved, the tunnel followed it, making my void ball effectively a homing spell, so no matter how fast my enemy moved, they would certainly feel a full wrath of my spell.

Wait a second. Since when dragons can sweat?

WHAT!?

He ran away!?

But no matter how fast he tries to flee, my spell will hit him and I can’t stop it from happening. The further he gets, the thinner the tunnel becomes, and since the already traversed part collapses, the projectile speeds up, reaching unimaginable speeds.
